My first harness was a full body willans T22 ..Willans are the harness of choice for many Supercars! Extremely well made but as Bolam says...why make life hard? With the floating bridge ot will provide a lot more freedom of movement than the old fixed system they had.Use it but if you ever get the chance to try a modern light harness you may feel a big difference in terms of comfort...

I think I remember an earlier one still, made of leather and without leg loops. I think they are still available through S&M outlets, if not they should be, only a masochist would want to use one.

I did also try the OPs Willans harness, before it had a floating bridge, one day and only for one day. Superbly made, robust and well padded, but not for me.

My old Boss who is 53 still uses and has only ever use a regular Willans T22/2 harness and i also know a couple other older chaps who still use this harness to climb.

They still sell them! Honey Brothers have them for just under £200.

I used my old boss's willians last year and wasn't too keen , i felt the seat squeezed my legs together and restricted my movement in the tree. At the end of the day it's all personal preference when it come's to harnesses.

here's a pic of my old boss climbing up an ask on his Willans back a few months back.

I was up the Birch in our back garden cutting it down with my bow saw, don't tell Bolam but I was wearing a T22/2 Willans kindly donated to me by htb in Aberdeenshire. I don't climb on it just use it to fasten myself to the tree and I will agree it is heavy but it does the job and makes me feel more secure.
