Cleaning krabs

Hi all, think the old beaners need a clean up, thinking of soaking in soapy water, do you have the gates wedged open or just close it all up ? Cheers

WD40 and a airline. Or i use a oral irrigator with warm water. Finishing of with wd40 .

My DMM carabiners need cleaning and maintaining often , whereas my petzl carabiners hardly ever.

I've always used warm soapy water, dried them out, then used graphite powder, but I've heard that's not a great idea?

The DMM's do seem to require a bit of love Darrin, for sure.

Joe I bought a DMM oval quad lock.

You need to grip it tightly, twist the shaft one way, ease it up towards the tip, twist it the other way then it opens up and the feeling is pretty intense.

That's what I do, any reason why it's not a great idea? I thought graphite powder was preferred over WD40 etc as dust/grit/etc didn't stick to it.

When i did my cs38 i was told not to use wd40 but to use a ptfe lubricant lol well not normal wd40 anyway lol

I've used a few different lubricants but for DMM Carabiners WD40 is my preferred choice.

This carabiner type is the worst i've had for sticking.

Duck oil is Recommended from DMM/Treemagineers.

I use warm soapy water, open and close the gates a few times under water, then leave to air dry. Usually that's enough but if not then duck oil if required.

 

DMM definitely say no to both graphite powder and WD40.
