You're quite right. Could be either. I'm not sure why I was so certain.

So, Steven. Am I a clarifier or a meddler?

there's no reason some of our computer scientists can't continue to lead on AI

we need both heavy industry and emerging technologies, obviously industry is more labour intesive, providing more jobs, but welding etc will become increasingly robotised.

Sir Demis Hassabis (born 27 July 1976) is a British artificial intelligence (AI) researcher and entrepreneur. He is the chief executive officer and co-founder of Google DeepMind[8] and Isomorphic Labs,[9][10][11] and a UK Government AI Adviser.[12] In 2024, Hassabis and John M. Jumper were jointly awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for their AI research contributions for protein structure prediction.[13][14]

It's not so much our computer scientists, (irrespective of their name or immigration status), as the big tech American companies that they'll work for, that I worry about. Do you trust them to put the safety of ordinary hardworking people just trying to get on in life, above profit? I don't.

of course there will be human suffering due to greed, always has been.

Some of these companies will use AI to develop more effective chemotherapy drugs. So we will be kept alive to prolong the suffering under our new masters

Interesting concept put forward by an ATL stalwart.
Linking your ability or willingness to answer a question to how much of a “ man” you are 🤔🤔

Bit of a blow to one particularly anonymous member whom has made such behaviour his standard MO, now reduced to the status of site eunuch it would seem.
