Though technically, you don't -actually- need P.L. insurance(!), but the much more expensive E.L. is compulsory, if you ever have any subcontractors or employed staff, etc. Having spoken with an expert witness who specialises in arb/forestry court claim assessments, I have to say I'm under no illusions that most of us (insured parties) will find a sharp and financially painful reality bites us, with our first claim -I doubt I, or many of us would happily survive a 3rd party's cross examination in a court.. Limited liability isn't without it's attractions at times.. 🤔

If you own/use a Black S2. 630 or Black SX2 800 cone splitter how do you get on with it , what size “knotty, twisted grain , hard wood “, trunks ( say 2.4mtrs long)can you comfortably split with it , please specify which model you are using. I ask as considering buying one. I would be hiring in a 5 or 8 tonne 360 to use it on . Many thanks for any info.

Think the problem is , saws aren't what they used to be , fuel isn't the same , chains and bars aren't what they used to be . If im thinking correctly the sthil rescue saw was based on a ms 460, Sthils always have been slower cutters, and husqvarna have been quicker. But most firms run mixed fleets of saws, not one model is great any more .

I've had a brief go on a Relfex.. Short answer is worth getting if your on the fence, mainly due to the price. Easier than a RRP to get on the line, not as easy as an akimbo or BDB. Unsure on the ergonomics or how to hold it, guess that would come with use. Currently I prefer ones that have a bird, RRP, BDB etc It's short enough, would be very short direct onto the bridge but stuck there. I reckon a perfectO to the bridge or small ring would be OK. Otherwise the swivel will need replacing most Lolers. Also the swivel means you can disconnect to pass it around a branch. Not a big deal as its relatively easy to take on off the line instead, but still more of a faff. It tends well ascending and coming in off a limb and feels slick. I don't get the need for a wrench. I reckon it'll be a pretty good device. Especially for those who go between MRS and SRT. It feels heavy and bulky in the hand which soon becomes irrelevant when it's on the rope. For myself it's of no benefit over the two BDB's I use. With one of them being set up shorter than this can ever go. If your on the fence, then buy one.
