  1. Past hour
  2. No, divisive politics doesn't work... and instead should be working together to go for a common goal that is not "they are bad, they support the opposing party", but perhaps "we are all people, lets all be the best people that we can". πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Posted by a total hypocrite who liked a post celebrating the death of a man based upon nothing but political ideology.
  3. Wordle 1,547 3/6 🟨🟨🟨⬜⬜ 🟨🟩🟩🟩⬜ 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩
  4. That's called natural selection. No one classes themselves as an idiot, until they do something stupid. Go on, hands up, who hasnt done something stupid and paid the price.
  5. Fairly scored I feel. This on the other hand was disappointing; 2.5 at best I feel.
  6. Well. Ive completed todays wordle, would you like to know the results? If its Mrs Dempsey reading this posthumously then you have my deepest sympathy's. Mick was a good guy, loved by all. Best wishes Aang.
  7. Was beginning to think I wouldn't get chance to wordle today, routine all to buggery, but I did. Wordle 1,547 3/6 ⬜🟩⬜⬜🟩 ⬜🟩⬜⬜🟩 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩
  8. " When you make something idiot proof, they build a better class of idiot "
  9. Today
  10. However for my scenario, they make sense. Yes, got to have some accountability but also go to to step back and wonder is there is something reasonably practical that can be done to avoid an accident, or to limit its effects if it does happen (seatbelts are a good example of limiting the effects of an accident). Off the back of every piece of legislation there is generally a fatality or a lot of accidents
  11. OK, it seemed like that you were attributing one accident to the change in safety systems. I agree that sometimes safety goes over the top when it hinders production for basically zero benefits. Ive seen a fair few near misses and its been experienced guys just having a bad day. If a safety device allows them to go home in tact then tbh I find it hard to argue against having it in place. Anyway, circling back I dont think a stop button is a stupid idea im fairly sure every piece of industrial machinery that can cause major injury has a stop switch.

  13. No worries. I would still climb on the BDB if it wasn’t worn out.
  14. Was a qualified member of staff, I know the company but will not say it on here. But the is only so much u can do then the is just stupidity and bang more legeslation and hse, we never take into account home owners, builders, farmers that have accidents, it all gets lumped together..
  15. I was saying it was when machines went from having the standard A bar over the infeed chute , to then having chutes a certain distance /height away from rollers , then the bottom stop bar that was over sensitive ..then the paddle switches and emergency stop buttons . I mean how many safety devices does one need for one fecking machine. You can never risk asses idiots
  16. Politicians should shut the fck up. Politics is statehood which is violence. Don't pay your TV licence. Ignore the court process. Fight the coppers who come to cage you. They'll eventually shoot you if you fight back hard enough. Politicians are fine with political violence as long as it isn't directed at them.
  17. Your age and climbing experience might actually make you a better tree climber... go the easy safe way rather than all out and taking the odd dodgy move. Age isn't as limiting as you might be led to believe. Constant knocks from tree climbing does take its toll though (you don't have that though 'experience'). What I was going to comment, and I am not sure if they will, but there are a few members here who have been in the military, now doing arb work, who might be able to give unique insights of any issues you might encounter with this career shift.
  18. Reading this, I would tend to agree with the conclusion - should be rejecting violence as an answer - noting that the previous 3 or 4 presidents set out statements this week condoning the attack, imploring this sentiment - the current presidents tone was very very different - he thrives on divisive politics, 'Us vs Them' works well for him but pushes the extremes both ways.. and the further apart the left and right become then more people will decide that direct action such as this is the only solution. No, divisive politics doesn't work... and instead should be working together to go for a common goal that is not "they are bad, they support the opposing party", but perhaps "we are all people, lets all be the best people that we can".
  19. Imagine this scenario... Dodgy company hires an apprentice - lets say an older one, 21 so no issued with needing closer supervision that a 16 year old might, new to the industry, is trained in the dodgy practices. Lets say for argument that the apprentice is cheaper than an experienced operator - dodgy company. Apprentice knows nothing, knows not what precautions to take, and no one could expect them to know... so Emergency stops are fitted to machines.
  20. If you can split them and then let them dry that is better - smaller pieces will dry quicker
  21. Carl, it sounds to me like you're bright and above average fitness for your age. That's worth a lot. I think, given what you've said, you'd make a good groundy trial/impression, for any local Arb business, and pick up work, easily enough. I also suspect you'd do equally well starting tree climbing too, if already climbing on rock.. IF you are lucky enough, to find someone willing to pay/subsidise your climbing training costs? As has been said: Joiners, tilers, brickies etc all make good/better regular outdoor earnings, with less or similar outlay -and much less risk of injury, though... I'm still loving climbing a couple of days a week, at 60 myself -but, honestly and hypocritically- I'd be unsure, as the boss, about training up someone only a few years younger than me, to do this work full-time ? Unless you showed great aptitude..
  22. if insults are 1 to 10 with 1 harmless and 10 the worst, maybe that can be given a score of 6.5
  23. So are you saying that some bloke working for a dodgy company got scapled and that was the reason that chipper manufacturers had to fit stop switches?
  24. It was a stupid contractor (a bloke with long hair not scraped up) that caused the first change .I'm not complacent with chippers or chainsaws but I respect them and take precautions.the company that had the accident were known to cut corners ..enough said
  25. Haha. The truth. They don't like it up em.
