kram started following Ms261c on Aspen issues
-
Swapping to aspen/alkalate requires replacing the rubbers. An arb I know did the switch and had to take 4 saws to the shop with a reasonable expense. However he also has an 880 that he doesnt use often and doesnt want the expense so still uses 2t just in that.

Completely agree, They aren't a cheap vehicle to run anymore , for most work its an iveco daily tipper- they aren't cheap either. But I was shocked at pete b hilux being dire at fuel towing, really surprised me .

I've switched to Motomix a little while ago, my finding is all the manual tune saws (Stihl 150, 261, 461, two Dolmars) needed a tweak up on the idle. The autotune saws haven't (Stihl 201, 400).

I occasionally buy a used saw, and have a query on Aspen use specifically on 261's - I recall a few years back running one of the Stihls on 2 stroke mix for about 4 months from new before making the switch to alkalyte fuel, ( a decision I intended to try to stick with with all ground saw but didn't quite pan out that way) and it wasn't keen on it at all it at, a sod to start and ran really poorly and I switched it to 2 stroke again and used as back up only. Now have just bought a 2015 model that was on two stroke, vented the tank for a couple of days and put fresh Aspen in, now it won't idle - is this normal? I've not had this issue with Husqvarna's and need to know if the carb is actually the problem before deciding there is a case to return it (Ebay, so that is possible))

Fair enough, one can only relate ones personal experiences.

personally im thinking of a new jimney, not a older one. Cheers

Elm, if its good enough for locks

A two part epoxy would be my choice as it has great fuel resistance and as its a bit thicker, theres no risk of it seeping anywhere. Before that I would lightly abrade the surface to help it stick.

I lied about running great. Early on the recoil spring snapped, likely user error as I have had to adjust it before. Anyway after bending a new tang on the end and she was fine after that. I'll get a new one ordered along with spares for my 020t and 2511.

Our were always good, but I would say that sometimes it must be luck of the draw, other times one sensor could throw out performance and still work within tolerance. It just depends if you find it. Had 4 td5s ,one 300tdi, one 200tdi, one td, a series 2a 3.5 v8. Ive never like the 300tdi for being lethargic , 200tdi yes please. I dunno why our td5s have been ok ,they have been unusually great
-
They start promisingly enough, some good pull and a turbo kick in that seems to foretell good things then… nothing. At least the 300 tdi was honest, torquey, good tow tug engine, slow but reliable.

It should be , il check tomorrow but I know on the defender it says it all ,

This is all great info thank you. I had planned on reducing the height a bit while maintaining the outward spread so it's good to be on the right track there. The owner was saying that while they had a really good crop last year, they also had lots more piddly little apples compared to other years. Could that be because of the lack of pruning or perhaps that's just how it was last year...? They've been in that house about 5 years now and I'm pretty sure they haven't touched the tree in that time. Thanks again.

2002 jimny 56 plate defenders
-
I will just put this out there about td5s, they don't take to remapping and if you say its been well maintained local garages dont count and dealerships aren't always great - often saying oh its diagnostics is the answer and people miss the basics, you need a decent reputable garage who specialises only in defenders . Not oh its a defender anyone can work on them/fix them .
-
Are you talking about new or old styles jimny and defender?
-
It won't be on the plate, it is a construction and use thing.
-
I wasn't thinking unbraked but it does say on Google and on our 2002 it says 1.6 id have to look tomoz on the plate again
-
Agree with Mark, looks like the glue is breaking down and once it does, it will block jets etc. you may not need to reseal the welch plug....try it first and if the saws idle is iffy, just use a smear of glue.....most petrol resistant glues are not truly petrol resistant.

Must of had a knacker and not from new then
