  3. spent a couple of days at the Warrenpoint Blues festival with the Groundhogs after TS had gone, they had an American guitar player with them (good but no Tony) nice couple of guys, plenty of tales and Guiness.
  4. I can honestly say Stovax stoves are the worst. I have owned and used over 8 wood burners and the Stovax Stockton 11 has give us so much trouble, smoking every single time we want to reload it. The Stovax customer service was defensive and very unhelpful. I swear I will never buy a Stovax stove again. See the video below. 29403a4d-f56c-441d-b214-8d04868b3b2e.MOV
  5. The small bark stuff sounds great for lighting fires.
  6. A friend of mine gets a small trailer load of " slab wood " or sometimes called " scab wood " for about £40 from a local saw mill .
  7. James Road . The G/H . All time fave . From the Album Hog Wash me thinks .
  8. We have a client down the end of the road with this on a chestnut, I explained and said it needs to come out (pink chestnut) its still alive now, similar size, canopy healthy..its in there garden so they opted to leave it until it had to come out !
  9. Think the lads below have answered
  10. another old friend sadly passed, but left us a wealth of excellent memories., among them this, one of my favorites, it could be the soundtrack of my life.

  12. Couple years ago I needed a training teee for my son. I posted in the local Facebook group offering a free inspection in exchange for access to climb a decent sized tree and was inundated with messages. you could make the suggestion that you are doing coursework for college and part of this involves inspecting trees, aerial cavities, structure etc…..obviously an informal inspection with no work recommendations.
  13. I had some bags of loggets which were sawmill slabwood that had been chunked with a branch logger and they burned well, a bit tedious feeding the fire but okay.
  14. Bleeding canker (Pseudomonas syringae pv. aesculi) for sure. Pretty much irrecoverable and as Paul says ther will be honey fingus on the way to finish the job off. Looks like a bit of leaf miner on the go too.
  15. Many years ago, I used to do the same. We had a local saw mill, and I worked on a farm. I had access to tractors and forklifts, an storage area and unused shed, and a saw bench on an old trailer, driven by a combine engine. We used to collect ten or fifteen bundles, cut up the good stuff for logs to sell, and burn the rest ourselves. In my humble opinion, you need a chainsaw to make the pieces manageable enough to handle on the saw bench. Chainsaw and saw horse is no good for high throughput.
  16. I dream of walking into a second hand shop and finding a mint copy of 'Growers of Mushroom' my current band plays this kind of stuff, British Invasion blues, Hendrix, Zeppelin etc. still goes down a storm.
  17. I would like to sell on and keep some for personal burning. And how would people process this? Chainsaw and saw horse or a machine os some kind
  18. Usually, but not always (the hopeful side of me), a gradual decline over 5-10yrs with Honey Fungus being the final death knell as vitality declines also (epicormics are showing early signs of Cameraria leaf-miner I'd suggest.)
  19. After contacting Greenmech UK in regard to purchasing and importing a used chipper from them, I was given the number for someone at Greenmech France, and informed that this would be an easier solution due to paperwork. Not so good for me as the same machines where a good bit more expensive and the main dealer was a good six hour drive away. As usual with France, phone calls were made and emails were ignored, no reply was ever received about my enquiry. It would appear that sales people in France can’t even be arsed to follow up on a guaranteed sale. I managed to buy a used Greenmech Arb 150 privately in France and it’s been a solid investment. I quite fancy updating to the new 130 turntable or possibly a 165D if I could ever arrange a demo. Hopefully I could trade in the Arb 150, if not, I may have a a chipper for sale in the near future and you’re only an hour away from me.

  24. and after a few changes and departures transformed into "Leafhound" with mick halls on guitar, formally with the Brunning sunflower blues band, who went on to tour the blues circuit and now lives in California, unless he's moved again, I was regularly in touch with him but not for many years. the family tree includes branches containing fleetwood mac, john mayall, paul kossoff, peter green, savoy brown, free, foghat, cactus, atomic rooster, and many others from the british blues era,bit different to todays music that has a lifespan of about 3 weeks before it's forgotten and replaced with the next short lived manufactured replacement. Leafhound reformed with Peter French still on vocals, and still playing today.
