  3. Hi All, I have recently purchased 1 acre of adjoining land to my property. Unfortunately the land has been left for 15+ years and is in a poor state. The land is in a conservation area and has some lovely trees that have not been cared for and in turn now has damage which I need to get ontop off. Before this however I need to remove the 7ft nettles and brambles that have tried to takeover! None of the hire places nearby seem to have power sythe’s or equivalent and just wondering if anyone in the LS25 yorkshire postcode can recommend. I have also seen the Robocut systems that look good but again either in the southwest or Scotland so it seems... if anyone has any good referrals or advice I would appreciate it. Thanks!

  10. Hi All New to this forum and first time poster! I wanted to ask your advice and opinions on a job I need doing. I have 200 - 300 stumps (ranging in size from 300mm to 800mm diameter) that I need to remove as efficiently and economically as possible without doing undue damage to the surrounding woodland area and remaining trees. The stumps are predominantly oak stumps 80% with the remainder being beech and willow. The woodland is an old oak plantation (approx 100 yrs old) spread over 5 hectares. The site is accessible by tractor when the ground conditions are favourable but it is a wet woodland. I've been told a stump grinding team could probably work through 20 stumps a day but I came across an amazing bit of kit called a Rotor S (made in Italy by a company called Ferrirotor) that appeared to drill its way through a stump in a matter of minutes and I wondered if this might be a more economical way of processing these stumps. The problem is I can't seem to find anybody in the UK who owns or has used a Rotor S. Has anybody on here got any experience or working knowledge about the Rotor S? I would like to learn more about this piece of kit and it's costs (aside from the company website info) and ideally I'd like to hire one or contract a company that has one to come and do the work if it turns out to be cheaper than traditional stump grinding services. Can anybody offer any advice or opinion? What are your thoughts?
  11. Greetings all, I'm writing as a complete newcomer to Arbtalk; nice place. I'm a woodworker, who has recently benefited from sizeable oaks coming down in London (involuntary, in that case), where I live, and in southern France, where my father-in-law lives. I intend to turn them into 30 - 50mm thick boards, plus a few a bit thicker, and when seasoned I'll certainly have enough wood to see me out, with plenty left over to mend the barn of the farmhouse in France. I've spent a long time thinking about what sort of mill to use, and come to the conclusion that a swing mill is the answer; because (1) one never really uses wide boards in my sort of work (can't be doing with that rustic look), (2) chainsaw mills look like hard work to me, and (3) the French log (should I be calling it a stick?) in particular weighs about 3 tonnes, is in a thoroughly inconvenient place, and the chap who runs the local sawmill seems to be better at Gallic shrugs than what we might call can-do. What I'd really love to do is hire a Lucas or Peterson mill for a week or so and do my own thing - first in London (Greenwich), then take it to France in a van and bring it back. Would anyone be up for that? Second best would I suppose be to spend a day here with its owner making sure I wasn't likely to do anything daft with it. I've seen the thread somewhere on Arbtalk where the merits of hiring mills on a 'machine only' basis were discussed, and for the life of me I can't see that they are more damageable or dangerous than plenty of other bits of kit regularly for hire.
  12. Hi. I am a local authority ranger and we are looking to hire a firewood processor to run off the pto on our Massey 410 (55 horse) tractor. We want it delivered to us and collected afterwards and would probably need it for a working week. I am posting this to get some prices from anyone local who would be able to offer us a suitable machine for hire. As we are local authority we would have to set you up on our purchase order system (not cash!). Please give me a shout if this sounds like something you can help with. Matt

  17. Looking for stump grinder hire in the area, got a job coming up with some stumps that need removing, 10 in total all but 3 are between 1-2 foot and the rest are approx 3-4 foot. Had bad experience with stump busters before so this time thinking to rent as seen a few for a lot less than I can get stump busters in for, never know i may actually make a few pennies from it instead of handing work away. Saw a post about the predator p26 from beaver but as its in York wondering if anyone knows of anywhere I could hire one a bit closer? Seen the Camon C500 grinders that I can hire in Barnsley but just cant help think it would take an age to get through them all with such a small machine. Any input is much appreciated.
