  1. New to the firewood market so any help or advice would be appreciated Through the day to day running of our business we get a lot of oak beam off cuts which we have been selling as firewood for years. To speed up production we have just put in a firewood processing plant and are now looking for more timber to build up this side of the business. I'm looking for round logs (not sure what the correct term is fit it) softwood and hard wood delivered to Pembrokeshire west Wales. Can anyone tell me where I can get this from or what I need to be asking for, and what price I should be paying. Thanks Celtic Timber
  2. Hi, I currently have 5 acres of woodland containing Douglas Fir and Scots pine. I am looking for a little advice about what to do with it. I recon there are around 350 - 400 trees, between 40-50ft tall and all dead straight. I have the option of logging it and seasoning it for next year and using the dead ones this year, or.. Selling to a saw mill which can make it into boards, utility poles etc Any ideas? Thanks
  3. Looking for a site to tip logs and woodchip, would be everyday for roughly 3 weeks. Lads are staying in digs and it would be a big trip everyday there and back. Willing to give it away. Cant guarantee how much there will be. Starting in the next few months. Send me an email or PM me. Regards Tom
  4. This is a rather odd request... I'm after some advise from people who know what there talking about because I defiantly do not! I know its a long way off however for one of my boyfriends Christmas presents I would like to buy him a new splitting axe (seeing as the head flew off his last one, spiralling through the air luckily not into the direction of any living objects) I know he likes the Gransfor ones although I've seen a nice Husqvarna splitting axe I like better. Does anyone have any reviews or splitting axes they recommend? I would just ask him but don't want to spoilt the surprise Many thanks in advance!!
  5. We have a job in Bracknell coming up this week with a fair quantity of woodchip and maybe logs to remove from site. Does anyone know of tip sites locally? Or anyone with a yard prepared to take it; we are based in Kent so running back to our yard could be a problem if we have more than one load per day. Don't know more detail yet about location or quantity. If anyone can help either reply on here or you can email me [email protected] Thanks in advance Laurence
  6. I have looked at the various threads on vented barrow bags, and people mention the quality dropping. Also I note that they seem to bulge in the middle. Can anyone recommend some good ones with covers on top that don't bulge so much (if there is such a thing).
  7. Hi, We are based in South Shropshire and have a volume of cut and split hardwood logs ready at the road side for collection. very low £ per m3. Cord wood also available. Please contact for more details.
  8. Hey there, A couple of queries here, I've only recently got into buying unsplit logs for my fire, as a bit of a hobby and to save a bit of cash. However I have had loads off two different people in my area one of whom was great and the other has kindly provided me with some rotting cherrywood (not spotted due to it being dark on delivery) as well as what appears to be woodworm. I've taken them out of the garage now, but I was wondering: Can you stack split logs with inner rot with your normal logs or is the rot still 'live?' And therefore likely to infect the rest. And also: What is it best to do with the woodworm logs? Should I still cut them into rounds and split for it to season. And again if outside will the woodworm thrive or die off? Cheers
  9. I have a yard in Dorchester on Thames. I need someone to split a reasonable amount of wood, probably take a couple of days, but there's a good chance I could offer you more work after this. You'll need to be... A company or Self employed Have NPTC tickets, risk assessments, etc Have you're own saw and PPE, etc Must be able to give me a quote and invoice for your work.
  10. Hi all, would appreciate any help identifying these logs, as I have been sold 100m3 as hardwood seasoned and I don't believe it is! Any advice or info would be great. Many thanks.
  11. Hello Not really to sure if I have done this right but anyway. We are a coal merchants who sell about 500 tons of wood a year. However we have been so busy with coal lately that we have had very little time to cut wood and have very nearly sold all we cut in the summer. Basically we are looking for about an artic load of 1 cubic metre bulk bags of hardwood 8-9" logs split and ready to sell. We can arrange haulage but the closer to Bicester, Oxfordshire the better. I appreciate that you guys will be very busy to but if anyone can help I would be very pleased. Thanks Robert A E Prentice
  12. Im just setting up in the Bolton area and im in dire need of somewhere that will take logs/ wodchip etc. Any help is greatly apreciated. Also, i was wondering if its economically viable to set up my own yard and sell the chip/ logs on. Who would buy it, licences etc. Anybody got any thoughts??????

  15. Looking in Homebase the other day, came across these "hardwood logs" Funny cause they don't look like hardwood logs. Perhaps the addition of traditional makes it all alright. Trading standards needing a call perhaps? What do you reckon?
  16. Hi there I have been offered a log splitter by an acquaintance, and wanted to know how much it was worth before going ahead with the purchase. It is a Ramsplitter HV20, runs on a petrol engine, and is the towable version. The splitter is 3 years old, has not seen too much use as far as i'm aware. Dont know much about purchasing this sort of equipment second hand and didnt want to pay over the odds. What do you think would be a good price? Thank you so much for any opinions/advice in advance, just wanted to ask some people who would know. Thanks again

  20. Hi I am taking down 2 large planes trees and 2 not so large lime trees this sunday. Does any body want to purchase, at a very reasonable rate, this timber? The butt of the larger plane is big, not tall (15') 2+tonnes, perhaps someone would want to mill it. There is a lot of straight stems in the planes. We have a crane on sunday so could stack straight onto a truck. Need site cleared that day. Any questions, please talk to me very soon. Adam 07779352664
