  6. Hi, Looking for two cords worth of any size unseasoned unprocessed hardwood for personal use / stocking up for next winter. Price should include delivery (Glasgow southside, easy access). Call me on 0141 419 0899 (after 6pm) or PM. Many thanks, Cris
  7. Thanks to everyone who contributed to my first ever post where I was putting feelers out into the firewood world without the desire to get burned. The replies I received were most helpful and made the transition into putting the plan into action. I have located a few local suppliers of wood and hauliers with trailer grabs. Looks like I'll be able to secure bulk soft and hardwood at good pricing to get me on my way. For processing I originally planned on starting with a tractor mounted hydraulic splitter but decided to go for a processor. I have plumped for a new Japa 700 that will be delivered in a couple of weeks time. Not that I think the Japa is the best machine out there from the research I've done but at 500kg it's the only one my old Ford tractor stands a chance of lifting. I know it struggles with a 500kg spinner load of fertilizer. I'll be storing and splitting logs this year in a barn which has 150m2 concreted area I've set aside for the storage and processing. The next main purchase will be a tipper trailer for deliveries. I'm looking at the Ifor Williams TT105 which has a massive 6m3 loading capacity with the mesh siding. I then plan to offer logs in 2, 4 or 6m3 deliveries. I wont decide finally on the trailer until ready to start markeing seasoned wood. One more basic question for those in the know. Is it best to season logs and then process cut to the size required for a specific customer order or process into 2 sizes, say 12 and 6 inch, and store the split wood? I can forsee great advantage in cutting to order as the processor can run straight off into the trailer ready for delivery and be cut to the size requested. The only possible downside is that seasoning logs will presumably take longer that seasoning of split wood. Does anyone have a relative time ratio guide for this?
  8. I will purchase cordwood (no small pieces) that you cant get rid of or use for firewood i.e. conifer, poplar, willowetc... If you want us to collect it or you can deliver it to our site and weigh in there..... The prices range from £10-£20 per tonne, depending on where you are, amounts etc...... Give me a ring if you are interested in clearing your yard or site (minimum amounts we will collect are about 6 tonnes) and it must be in lengths of at least 7 ft.... Tel.. 07971624646 speak to Deb
  9. Hi I am taking down 2 large planes trees and 2 not so large lime trees this sunday. Does any body want to purchase, at a very reasonable rate, this timber? The butt of the larger plane is big, not tall (15') 2+tonnes, perhaps someone would want to mill it. There is a lot of straight stems in the planes. We have a crane on sunday so could stack straight onto a truck. Need site cleared that day. Any questions, please talk to me very soon. Adam 07779352664
  10. I'm after some hardwood, preferably beech, birch, ash, syca, cherry ect in the Glasgow area if anybody has any... Can take a tipper load in the driveway and process myself, anything up to three tonnes would be great. Will take any chippings too. Can offer a small payment and coffee, Thanks in advance, Cris
  11. I'm a bit of a novice at this, but here's my first attempt..... Did I do alright?
  12. SEASONED HARDWOOD LOGS on eBay (end time 25-Jan-10 17:23:49 GMT) Wonder if there is a reserve?
  13. This looks like a different way to sorting out dragged wood. Is this machine over here. Has anyone used one? Firewood Processors Chomper Rainier If you look for the video thread and select what you need. Is that really cool, with the shear, or is it not really cool, and just very silly?
  14. Has anyone had any experience with the Dalen 2054 processor? How does it compare with the equivalent Hakki? Pricewise, it seems to be on a par with the Hakki 1x42. However the Dalen can cut up to 44 cm diameter timber. Also , any parts / service horror stories?
  15. Hi, Do any of you firewood guys contact land owners for permission to log in private woods or does all your wood come from other tree work? I'm curious as around me there are some cracking little woodlands, which have so much recently downed timber that is not being used. I'm not looking to make a living selling firewood, I have just installed a log burner and it will be our only heat this year. I need to secure me some firewood, get a couple of years supply ready and seasoning. I don't want people offering me wood now, I wanna go out and cut it myself, (I used to be a timber faller in the 90's and enjoy the time I spend in the woods:001_tt1:!) just wondering how you contact land owners? Thanks for any advice, Regards, Paul.
  16. Hi Guys thought you might be interested in having alook at my home built log splitter. My dad and i built it from an old bail spike frame and an 8" H-Iron girder. The ram if off an old digger and the rest of the steel was what we had around the farm. It will split 21/2 ft thick rings of any diamiter and it can be raised an lowered on the 3 point linkage to make it easyer to lift big rings on to it. It is a tad on the slow side because it runs off the tractor spool valves. But i am planning to fit a PTO pump and resivoir to the splitter to speed things up. Incidently if anyone has an old pto pump knocking about and are willing to part with it then give me a shout.
