  1. Can second that putting used gear oil into the fuel tank of a saw. Just emptied it and chucked a fill of petrol in and away I went. Worked fine smoked like crazy
  2. Aye. For the hardwoods. Pine is about 10-30cm in height. Bracken is about 60-70cm in that area, some up to 1m.
  3. 585 bought April 2023. Still in warranty. Aftermarket side cover from @shavey and dogs. 28 inch bar, will need a new chain. 572 bought September 2022. Warranty until September 2024. 18 inch bar and chain, could do with being replaced ideally. How much should I be listing these on marketplace for?

  5. Big trees today. This one took a solid 5 minutes of battering and resetting wedges to get over. First bracken control/brushcutting job underway here an hour from me. Cutting around the hardwoods, and small pine… Learning curve to say the least… Last photo is the section I’m into next 0.4 hectare will make it my aim to smash it in a day.
  6. Now it is a bit scary how much the guards and a blade is. Coming in at about 100 pound but I guess they will last a while and the money is in the guard I guess… I see there is a two pointed shredder knife and I see there is also an Oregon 3 bladed mulching blade. Do they do the same thing or is one better than the other? Sorry if this has been answered in previous posts there is a lot of replies on here
  7. Bought some Oregon 4mm square line for this bracken job. Amazing how many different cords there is… Now for my FS461 I’d like a shredder blade to tackle this in my garden and flatten it all down to sticks. Will need one with a guard etc? Maybe document it a bit and maybe word will spread. Maybe I’ll get 6 likes on Instagram. Who knows.
  8. I’ll be buying a shredder blade in the future and all sorts don’t mind buying all sorts of bits of kit. Just to get me started will only be doing one or two days a week alongside cutting just now. It’s apparently not that tall, the bracken that is. He’s an old friend who’s now a forester with experience in this line of work. Ex planter etc so yeah I will take his word for it. Hopefully it’s not too bad. Will get good at it in no time I’d imagine. Also managed to cross thread the bolt somehow on fitting the trigger handle. Took me over 30 minutes to screw one nut and bolt together after many hits with the file and tap set. That’ll teach me for trying to use my brain after a 18 hour day. Not my brightest moment
  9. Bought a 461 to get me started as seems like a good middleground. Got a job starting Monday on a hillside clearing bracken around a Sitka crop. Trees are 50-100cm in height. Anyone have any tips for this kind of job and on strimmer line for this particular job? Forrester says normally a hectare will take one man 3-3.5 days. Price is 700 per hectare. (Not sure if this is good or not but we will find out). Thanks
  10. Just do a 50:1 mix with gear oil. Works a treat.
  11. Hahahaha. It does seem a little too good to be true…
  12. 52cc Petrol Garden 5-In-1 Multi-Tool | Hyundai WWW.SBTLTD.CO.UK Key Features Five-in-one garden tool: Includes a hedge trimmer, pole saw, brushcutter, grass trimmer and long reach... Has anybody used one of these? Thinking of buying one of these for odd jobs around the house and maybe a days work in high pruning…
  13. I said it’s a bit quiet in here, are you deaf?
  14. Cutting for a 951XC and it can handle that like it’s nothing. Pretty impressive.
  15. Bit quiet in here……….. @slack ma girdle

  17. Think they’re like 1.5-1.8m long? Here’s a photo plus got about another tree in there.
  18. How much is a cube in terms of a pick up load? I reckon it’s pretty cheap for what I’m giving them?
  19. I’m now selling a pick up bed load (double cab) of 6-8 inch rings of Sitka for 50 quid delivered to people I know.
  20. Also. Put a 24 inch bar in the back of the truck at 4am yesterday morning for a spare going up north, heard a clunk going down the road and didn’t think much of it…. It was my bar falling through the gap between the tailgate and truck bed. @Doug Tait if you see a 24 inch Oregon bar lurking around Scott Street lemme know 😂
  21. Made an arse of it yesterday. Blew the hinge clean off a tree, got my saw stuck. Got my powerhead off so it didn’t get wrecked when I kick it off the stump… Kicked it off the stump, and this happened. Sorted it after a quick smoke and a scroll through Indeed. IMG_5107.mov
  22. Baliquidder 110 mile north. Back again tomorrow. Felling for brash as harvester and forwarder can’t get back up the main route. IMG_5109.mov
  23. Can’t wait for a 4am start tomorrow.
  24. Avoid GB like the plague imo. Tips are horrendous. Had one blow after one chain, replaced it and it has chipped. I then got it stuck in a branch and I’ve bent the tip which is my fault. 100 percent Tsu Mura or Husqvarna X Tough Light. Got loads of chains through mine until the tips went. Took a lot of proper abuse before hand though… Oregon are good, can replace the tips with the cheap Chinese ones for 9-11 quid when they do finally go. (Done it with a few, and I’ve put 3-4 chains through one tip and it’s looking pretty grim now).
  25. It is if you send it over your shoulder and through the dyke. Doug Tait sorted me out so when I take over the forestry and estate game after this email. He is the man that kick started this adventure. Maybe, in the distant future, there may be stories of him. Maybe they will write a story about him…
