  1. Send him my way I'll sharpen them 😂 @Stere I've heard of a cutter that goes brashing and bins his chain when it's dull/never hand files. Or tries to sell them on for cheap.
  2. It really is a sad state of affairs when everything in this country is imported.
  3. Spot on. No sweat, I prefer to come on here than get absolutely slated on FB whenever you post on groups. Prefer to have my thread derailed in style
  4. I do appreciate the concern of me jumping into it but I've got a small idea with the splitter and a bit of work lined up already with it so hopefully more will come of the back of it (someone elses timber/yard). Hopefully word of mouth and all that brings me some more. Even if I don't make a great deal of money I can afford the splitter no problem and it's another piece of kit I have and invested so win win. I've spent well over the 2200 (price of the splitter) on tools for engineering (my last job) and they're pretty much gathering dust in the garage anyways so no big deal. 😂 Not got any other ideas for moving forward other than what's listed above and I hate not having something to aim for. (Forestry woodcutter 5 days a week btw)
  5. Not read the whole thread but out of curiosity can you guys show me some photos of how you air dry your logs? Boys local to me throw them in IBC crates and call it good after 6 months or so. Not all of them but a select few.
  6. Would be a part time hobby. It would be 25 ton of hardwood. Mixed and oversize more than likely. Also have other plans for the splitter Again @Whoppa Choppa I'm not jumping into it and I'm looking for some info. Another point, I make a lot of topics on this forum just to get info and learn a few things off of older people who have been there n done it.
  7. Now then another post from me about firewood. Buying a venom splitter on Friday and was just wondering how much or how little there is to be made doing firewood. On a lorry load of hardwood at 75-90 GBP a ton delivered (what my boss is offering me) how many IBC crates would this normally fill? This is me thinking of the future and seeing what you guys think. Will need to find a yard of some sort which I'm also unsure on the price per month of something like that.
  8. In Scotland we miss out December. Too expensive
  9. They're called sparkies...
  10. Didn't drive a red Land Rover did he?
  11. Anyone on here ever do any steeple work or rope access? Not tree climbing/surgery
  12. I wouldn't say I'm 700 in expenses every week but every month or every week there's one extra expense etc and it all adds up. I do drive a hell of a lot of miles as well and forest roads etc
  13. On a day rate with a fair bit of expenses so really not much scope for setting a high wage. Out of 900-1100 a week. I'll pay myself 350-400 in my hand a week and still end up struggling to save for the tax man 😂
  14. Tbf that would be my perfect felling height 😂
  15. How many chains were knackered? My cutting partner found a sheep in a beech tree the other week...
  16. Felling ash today. Farmers suck
  17. I cut in forestry and my take home wage isn't very good after expenses. 1100 top line for local work per week minus expenses etc. Self employed. Not sure what the going rate is for a self employed grounds man, been thinking a while about going and doing that for a bit if the money was OK as would be nice to do something easier
  18. I'll get back to you on that very very shortly
  19. Funnily enough I was heading Scotland to Northumberland probably on that day 😂
  20. Nearly flooded my van on the Cornhill straight coming from Wark/Carham. If I didn't hit it at 50mph and instantly bang it into 2nd and kept it lit I'd be cycling to the woods... 😂 Stopped half way where it wasn't flooded and reversed back and got another runner at the 2nd stage. Here's a previous photo from another year that it flooded for anyone who's interested. Wasn't as bad but was definitely close to wrecking my van. Bmws etc parked up at the side of the road.
  21. Husqvarna 372xp Chainsaw saw head only - Logs and Saws LOGSANDSAWS.CO.UK the husqvarna 372xp is a great professional saw for all Round use, from the forest to land owners. Comes with a 20”bar and chain as... this will be my next saw when the 572 is out of warranty 👌
  22. Thanks for the replies again. Seen a guy local to me actually hiring him and his road towable firewood processor. Seemed pretty neat.
