  1. Not really. Level of debt doesn't really tell us anything. If you owe 200 grand on a 5 million pound house you are in a very different position to someone who owes 200 grand on a half million pound house. It would be rather narcissistic of me to think i know how to run your finances better than you do.
  2. I'm not tired of climbing, I still love it. It's the main reason I'm here. I still do a bit, but not at any sort of speed any more. I just realised I had more lucrative skills that could be used in other industries.
  3. I think this time, the music will stop (or at least pause for a while). Some very knowledgeable people agree with me; some very knowledgeable people disagree with me. I'm making it up as I go along just like everyone else. It's served me well so far though.
  4. I retired from climbing; I'm not retired. Good luck with it; I hope it works out for you.
  5. There's no such easy answer I'm afraid. I did apologise for my answer being rather cryptic. I'm not the oracle you seek.
  6. Not really, it will be different for everyone. Change delivers opportunity, and changes are quite a big part of everyone's life at the moment. Furlough has been little more than shoving a massive load of QE money into the economy. Sooner or later the music stops, and everyone is left dancing to their own tune. Sorry if that answer seems a bit cryptic, but you'll have to do your own research and formulate your own plan.
  7. There is a once in a lifetime opportunity around the corner for anyone with enough liquidity to take advantage quickly. It's no different to shorting stocks and shares. There's money to be made no matter what the masses are doing. Don't wash the van, sell it. Actually, wash the van and then sell it.
  8. There are really 2 different conversations to be had here. One is how to depression proof your arb business, and the other is how to depression proof your finances generally. Actually, there's a third; I'm doing everything I can to set things up to make a nice tidy profit out of any bubble bursting that may occur.
  9. If you try the local paper make sure there are a few birds nests scattered about for the photos, or even better a Crested Newt that looks like it's just had a bang on the head. 😀
  10. Pretty much the whole world was in a bubble even before Covid. It's going to burst at some point. Put your money in stuff that people really need, not the nice to haves.
  11. Judging by the skill with which the tree was done, they probably needed to replace the fence and the sheds when they were finished.
  12. If you have any specific questions start a thread. I'd be happy to explain.
  13. Not really, a basic brochure site built on something like WordPress is a pretty standard thing (especially if all content in provided). It doesn't really matter how many pages there are going to be, it's all about the structure. Anyway, I'm derailing the thread, sorry.
  14. A basic brochure site for a tree surgeon with all copy, images and content supplied prior to start.
  15. What's the cost of an average site from you?
  16. Even that's dodgy because once they start to receive bonuses they get it into their head that they are entitled to it. Then, if things aren't going so well and you don't give a bonus, you end up with staff who are more resentful and demotivated than when you didn't give a bonus at all. Staff, can't live with em, can't live without em.
  17. I did that for a while and it was more trouble than it was worth. It leads to a culture of doing things quickly not properly, blaming individual team members for holding up progress if they are concerned about safety, and even leads to team members moaning about early finishes or a bit of paid time off because they want to get their bonus.
  18. You just know it's going to be a pain in the backside. I've got one now, the National trust say it's 'Highways' responsibility, and 'Highways' tell me it's the National Trusts responsibility. The customer told me that the forestry commission own it.
  19. I do hope we can still get Aspen post apocalypse. I really don't want to be fighting zombies with crappy old pump fuel.
  20. A website for a business like this will cost peanuts; It's daft not to have one. It's a bit of a misconception that most marketing is done via social media these days. A marketing mix is about strategic decisions, not what promotional channels you are going to use, and that's where you need to start.
  21. Surely we'd be expected to dispatch humans with saws, not guns.
  22. If that wasnt a typo this thread is heading into a dark place.
  23. I have a 261 and a 550 xp MK 2. I prefer the husky but they are both good saws. The Husky seems more powerful because it's a bit of a screamer; having said that, the Stihl feels more torquey and is less likely to bog down in the cut.
  24. You should tell Collins. You have to read down the link a bit. The Longest Word in the Collins English Dictionary - Collins Dictionary Language Blog BLOG.COLLINSDICTIONARY.COM The longest word listed in Collins English Dictionary is dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane, which is the full name of the...
