  1. Depends on if you're sold trader or LTD tbh. A good accountant can keep you almost tax free up until the late 40k mark
  2. £150 a day sounds right from what I have seen. That's assuming an 8:30-4:30 (9-5 eqv) with a normal lunch break etc. They would be on your insurance and you would usually be using your rigging etc. £180-£200 for the premier league guys with their rigging equipment and that's including VAT as they usually have their own company so it's on their books and do "freelance" to help others out and have a day without the shite that goes with working for yourself. The Premier guys are shit hot though. I've groundied for some of them on some massive jobs and they're quick as hell. Balsy on their rigging (taking big picks) but it's their kit so who cares. I'm not no. Haven't hit the threshold yet and don't see the point. Customer pays more, I earn less. I can give a more competitive quote being off VAT and the money that I pocket from the difference between the +VAT and the off VAT more than makes up for the fact I can't "Claim back" VAT. Avoiding it like the plague tbh.
  3. It would be £150+Vat. No-one would go and work as a climber with kit, freelance for £125. That's groundie rates.
  4. I've got a Honda 35cc brushcutter with the stihl cutting disc and it fells some good size stuff. It ain't no FS460 but it handles what I throw at it and as long as I know it's weaknesses it's solid. Anything over 4" it's chainsaw time.
  5. Does anyone know what oil goes in the Ingimex tippers or does anyone know what oil goes in their tipper if it has a bosch rexroth powerpack? My tipper has been getting better and better with use so I'm going to flush it with fresh oil before I check the pressure. Cheers!
  6. Shame we aren't in America where there's machinists on every corner. I don't think it would take much to tig up/spray weld and re-machine the crankshaft. If you had a good method for it and you were good on a mill you could make a pretty penny re-doing the bearing face.
  7. Under 30k for an experienced climber seems very low if everyone fits below the manager... The local big arb companies to me, from what I can tell, have team leaders that are also the experienced climber and they're on over 30
  8. You say that but local companies to me are offering £12-£14 an hour for employed cleaners, own car but everything else supplied. If all you need for that is a driving licence for £119 a day or £31,178 there's no reason why you shouldn't be on 36-40k depending on location to run an arb team with all the tickets and experience?
  9. I know it's freelance but I have an older guy who works his ass off dragging brash, shifting logs and tidying up etc and I pay him £130 a day. He has no tickets so can't log stuff but when I come down out the tree I can take my harness off, cut any big bits and we can go home. Most days we're done by 2/3 because it's seamless when I'm working with him so it's worth every penny. If you're getting less than £100 a day as a team leader that ain't on. Back to employed I would take £130-£140 a day. Lets face it, at that point in your career with all the tickets and experience you shouldn't be working your ass off for that, as in, you shouldn't be scrubbing around on the ground dragging brash but leading a team, driving equipment, doing all the stuff you expect the older guy at work to do. 262 working days a year so that's £34,060 to £36,680 with holiday, sick pay etc seems fair to me and pretty on par with what you would expect a manager to earn. This industry is crying out for experienced guys. Lots of teens fresh out of college that give it a go and can't ride the shit at the start so move off somewhere else. This industry is heading for a pay rise.

  11. That really sucks. Especially as you have a 110 and not a 90. I think 110's only came with a 7.5 radial but the 90s had up to a 265/75/16. 💔
  12. Tell me how you get on with the map. I had one on the td5 and it made it fail emissions 🤦🏼 got the map taken off and it passed with flying colours, not even half the limit 🙄
  13. +1 for metaposts. They seem last longer than concreting them in anyway plus they can either move around (or through) small roots. Another advantage is if they do rot (or rust) out it's a nice easy job to put new posts in!
  14. Lots of things can cause it! That section of the piston is the furthest from the inlet (cooling and lubrication) the furthest from the cool air from the flywheel, the closest to the exhaust and chain to so is usually quite covered over. It seems to be one of the first areas to go and can't be seen through the exhaust which is why I said. If matey just looked through the exhaust or down the plug he won't have seen it really. At the same time this just seems like a dodgy plug if it's after he serviced it because there isn't much to mess up on a service like this! Good job on the 660. What happened to it?
  15. It sounds like he's used a dud plug or something. Swap the plug out and see what happens. You may just be unlucky. He won't have burried it in some wood to test it after the service. Simple things first!

  17. So has this started since the new spark plug etc was installed or before? If its been a problem since then its obviously something he did. If it's like it before it can only really be a breather or a piston issue. I know he said it's in great condition but did he take the pot off or look through the exhaust. The pistons usually go between the exhaust port and the chain as that's the hottest and least lubricated part of the piston

  19. Currently my GMB is now unverified and in the wrong place so I am in the same shoes as you. Only found out because a customer said "I noticed you're based in X" and I was in Y 🤦‍♂️
  20. Have you put a new spark plug in it? I've had plenty of tools mess up because the resistor in the spark plug is knackered and goes full resistance when hot.

    I found it suddenly dropped off last week. Not just organic enquiries but also things like Bark- The home of bidding to work for as little as possible is dead too. Weird stuff.
  22. I've got a 200t, 261 and a couple of others. If I had a 3 saw arsenal for climbing and I did it all again it would be: 2511 (or battery husky as they seem better than stihls battery stuff) 500i 661 I'd also have the 261 as it makes a really nice disassembly saw in the tree on stuff too big for the 200
  23. 261 for me. It's my go to saw. Nice and light with a 15" bar on and can handle an 18" quite well too. If I need parts my local dealer usually has it in stock as it's a very popular saw. In all honesty I would see what your dealer stocks and what they hold more parts for. If you're buying a saw to make a living from then parts are the priority. I needed a new sprocket and chain catcher for my 261 and I picked it up on the way home.
  24. So I am getting more and more peaved with Google My Business. I've had my business on there for about a year now and 2 weeks ago it went off the face of the earth in search and asked me to re-verify. Then it showed me in the wrong place so I moved the pin and re-verified. Now this week my pin has moved about 12 miles away and now I have to re-verify?! What the hell is going on!
