  1. I'd personally pop the exhaust off and check its not got mud in. I'd be worried about muddy water in the exhaust getting into the piston. Turning it over could score it up a bit?

If I did this and a customer raised it I would expect them to: 1) With hold payment 2) Get their choice of professional in to inspect it if it's new or ask me to get someone in to repair it. 3) ask me to pay for the repair or go to the insurance. If I did this I would: 1) Tell the customer 2) offer to get someone in to repair it or have them choose a repairer 3) pay for it myself instead of the insurance unless it's a rediculous bill. 4) still charge the full amount Just be honest, call them, tell them what they did and ask them to fix it. It's up to them if they pay or use their insurance to fix it. If I caused damage I would offer to get someone in to repair it which should be either the company who fitted it or a reputable company. I'm wary of the "mates rates" repair guy who is friends of the claimant pumping up the cost and handing out brown envelopes
  3. I didn't think mature trees, especially coniferous ones had much of a tap root? Just a lot of fiberous ones.
  4. quoted for a leylandii removal. Thought it would be about a day but it was dense. What looked like a relatively simple job became choging down 3 main sections that were about 16" where they joined the main section. Felled the last 18ft it was around 48" at the base, had to go in from two sides with the 881 and the 30" bar. Got it all down in a day but had to go back for half a day of more clean up, so much kack
  5. A Hilux has a mgw for the single cab of 3010kg, it's curb weight is 1850. That's 1160kg payload minus the weight of the tipper pump, ram, bed etc which probably puts it at 1050kg ish if you're lucky as rams and pumps aren't light then add an arb body to it. The newer shaped single cab transit, twin rear tyre with a scattolini tipper is 1060kg payload but you gain more room, stability and practicality (room for 3 guys vs room for 2). You can run some super light sideboards as you have more room or get an arb body. If you want the most payload then you want a Renault Master with a scattolini bed as that's got a 1349kg payload.
  6. It will be interesting to see the payloads between transits, defenders and hilux's etc- Realworld weights, get all 3 on the scales to compare. A hilux has a gross payload with the standard bed of 1060kg with an arb bed and tipper kit etc it's unknown. The transit won't handle weight as badly as a hilux/defender either. If you load a transit the weight is spread between the axles, a pickup puts all the weight over the rear axle. If you stick a trailer on the back too with a 60-100kg nose weight it won't be far off popping a wheelie when you brake. Only thing I will say about the transit is I don't have to take the chipper with me all the time. For small/medium jobs I can just chuck it all in the back and tip back at the yard for a big chip up at some point. If you go for the double cab you have some good storage space or if you get the single cab you have tonnes of room for a toolbox.
  7. Assuming you haven't just assembled it and put it together dry it will be fine. I would do a quick test "dry" and then put a couple of drips of oil in there and do it again. gives a good idea on how well it's sealing
  8. You can pull the decomp out by hand if you want but it won't fully seal sometimes like it would if it started. You can undo the decomp valve, push the button in and then clean it off with a brass wire brush if you want to get any carbon/rubbish off it. I found mine got a little crappy
  9. If I saw that 3 weeks ago I would agree but my ingimex scissor will tip 1700kg at least and It goes nice and high to dump off brash. I took it to pirtek who basically told me they seize up and then they're crap but they get more of the 4/5 cylinder stuff in with issues so it's a trade off

  11. If it has compression then it has air, if you put fuel in the intake and it still won't fire then it's definitely spark. I would be looking at a dodgy coil that won't fire under compression, sounds dumb but possible. New coil and HT lead would be my go to with that. I think spud had a saw that wouldn't fire under compression but fired fine with the plug out.
  12. Slightly unrelated but having a nightmare with bees. Usually peak around 35 hives but having a mare this year with the weather. Some hives even went cannibal style and we're having to feed them with pollen and sugar which is ridiculous this time of year. Usually looking to take off the rapeseed crop soon... Might not have much honey at all this year!
  13. I've never had to use the breakdown cover. Even blown an injector/engine, collapsed a spring, had a blowout on the M5, lost the clutch, alternator died, starter motor went etc always been able to get out of Dodge. I'm with startrescue and it always scares me how good they will be 😂
  14. 10 degree offset, 10 degree on the angle, 50 degree on the head. It's what the manual says for the 27ra ripper

  16. You would think they would take it onboard but then it would cost them more money 🤦🏼 To be fair, hybrid poplars etc are some of the most invasive root wise. It doesn't surprise me that they can grow in through the seals really! I knew trees were attracted to drains due to condensation and warmth etc meaning the root supporting fungi can grow quicker giving increased growth again but I thought that they couldn't pull apart couplings or penetrate pipes unless there was existing damage. Every day is a school day
  17. Well, you know more about drains than I do that's for sure. I take it that was the newer ring seal "push fit" type as opposed to the clay type that the property probably has?
  18. Well they will if they start doing proper diagnostics with the dealer scanner. The ECU will show it's been reflashed and may not be recognised properly by Nissan Consult. Fingers crossed they will know straight away it's popped a pipe and they will sort it out. I imagine they will plug the laptop in to do an update and clear any codes though as a standard practice which may be an issue. Time will tell...

  20. Still under warranty isn't it? For a turbo to blow after 2 years/30k something has to have gone majorly wrong.
  21. Depends on the harness too. The tree motion for example has the green ring in the centre at the back which is a fall arrest point for mewp use. You should have the shoulder straps/full body straps fitted afaik for fall arrest though. It would also have to be twinned with fall arrest equipment too which is designed to absorb a shock load as opposed to climbing gear which is designed for work positioning. Not sure on the use of work positioning kit as fall arrest though. Technically it's a no and why would you want to. Much easier to have an inertia reel in a bucket on your back than the positional strop and a suitable backup on your front
  22. Sounds like you've blown a turbo pipe off or split it. I've had it on vehicles before and it sounds like a bomb has gone off. Turbos don't go "bang" when they blow, they usually just shit themselves and whine like hell or dump oil into the intake manifold. Start at the turbo and follow all the intake pipes, make sure they're all connected properly and squeeze them and manipulate them to find a split. I've had one on a Skoda that was 1.5cm but enough to give no boost. The rough noise is probably the open intake manifold. They sound like a deep intake warbly noise.
  23. I think the 4.7mm (large) wheel is about right for .325 as the Stihl file is 4.8mm. it's smaller than a standard .404 file so like you say it will make touch ups easier. I've just done my milling chains and it seems to leave a nice profile. Barely takes anything off when it's set up right and doesn't leave a bur so all in all I'm quite happy! The 74" skip chain I have clipped a piece of dirt or something so it was nice not to have to mess about filing that out. Just did one side and then reset for the other using a pair of Vernier calipers to make sure the teeth are the same. MOV_0536.mp4
  24. Ahh interesting! It just seems odd? Surely if the wheel size is off you can't touch up a chain in the field with a file as the profile isn't right? It explains why a new chain takes a few passes for the file to bed in though! Also makes me realise I should have used the larger wheel on the .325 chain 🤦🏼
