No not really. He was abit more of a hindrance than anything. Would of been better with one of my guys helping but contract lift they insisted on him being with me. It's gone to a local company who make high end outdoor furniture it'll be well utilised.

No idea. Apparently it went down hill pretty quick. Within 12months. No signs of anything obvious.

Lovely sequoia take down from this week. All went well, apart from the slinger from the crane company. He came up in the basket to help as they insisted on massive chains. Scared of heights and only been in the job 3 weeks 🤦♂️ 4t biggest lift.

Just taken delivery of this setup. Any advice to get the best out of it. Revs, 1speed 2speed? Etc... Cheers.

I think it was around 3years ago we had a fly over at the local street market. Amongst our group of friends was a war veteran who had unfortunately lost his eye sight. More unfortunately he's since died but anyhow... His reaction as he heard the noise, brought a group of fully grown men to tears. It's a memory that will stay with me forever.

2 rope climbing are we sticking to the rules
Timbertom111 replied to Thesnarlingbadger's topic in Climbers talk
I definitely agree with this. I've been subbed in as a climber to get firms through an AA Aproval. Paid handsomely for it mind 😉 -
Not mine but a friends. Gave him a hand with some winching the other day. He has a vast collection of tractors. All of them are immaculate but still get used as and when.

We are just about to start a clearance job in Saltford, Keynsham. Some lovely processor size firewood, mixture of ash, beech, cherry, chestnut etc. Due to access (low bridge) it would suit someone local with tractor and forwarding trailer. Open to offers. There will be approx 40ton We will also have similar quantity of poplar which would go for chip wood. Please dm for more info. Many thanks. T

I've used both as a Subbie with other companies. The more recent Doosan engine is noticeably more powerful and is a beast but I still can't help always spot the the classic forst poor build issues.

Step cutting unrigged large white willow branches
Timbertom111 replied to hesslemount's topic in Rigging and roping
Go out further and take smaller bits. Put a felling cut in as appose to step cut. Make sure you cut the side of the hinge aswell before back cut. Use a bigger saw with smaller bar for faster chain speed. -
I bumped into a guy I used to drink with a week or so ago. Guess who climbs trees for a living and guess who invested in crypto.

Typical Friday today. Was getting pretty fed up with the world until i had a beer. Subbed out this morning to a builder with the Avant to move some building materials. 5min job turned into a few hours which meant I didn't get to this beech until just gone 12. Forgot a before picture but managed to give it a quick reduction and was unloaded and back the yard by 4. Met the other gang only to be greated by a tracked chipper that had shit its belts 🤦♂️

As a family we never really do presents but Brother in law lost his job due to covid and has spent the last few months working away in his shed making things for us all this Xmas. This was my gift. Completely handmade, very original. One of the best gifts I've had in years

The red tape we had to go through was ridiculous. The local council wouldn't let us do it for free, had to be quoted for, and carried out by a vat registered and insured contractor. Luckily a mate stepped up who runs a civil engineering company and we did it through him. Donated the money straight back into the village community charity fund.

Did this ash tree yesterday. Completely hollow with a nasty split running up the middle. Ratchet strap did close the split up abit so I think it helped. Just had to get it on the ground, home owner was tidying up. Perfect Saturday morning job.

This reminds me how lucky I am to have "that mate" (who can't read or write particularly well, loves the smoke... but if you give him a ring he will come and fix/make anything) every tree man should have a Kev ?

Maybe I've just had bad experiences but I'd never buy a greenmech. I have used lots of machines and loved the tw230 I owned. I've since got a tracked jensen 530, only because I couldn't find a tracked 230. Very happy with that but would swap with a 230 if I had the chance. It just eats brash/timber.

Oak reduction from this morning. Was pollarded about 5years ago. Will probably get maintained like this now every 3years or so. Wouldn't have usually used a cherry picker but had it on hire for the week for another job. Always find it strange doing a reduction from in the basket im to used to being inside the crown on a harness not working from the outside in. Pissed it down all morning so called it a day when we were done.
