  1. I like seeing your work gobbypunk, some lovely work that you do. For the roof have you ever tried torch on felt?
  2. There are reasons for leaving stumps high, if digging out for example. Without good reason it's better to cut low I believe. A while back I was swearing at the felling course that had been held in the wood where I was working, tore a hydraulic hose out of the tractor on a needlessly high stump... (for long standing members here, I'm not the reincarnation of TCD but agree with his opinion on high stumps!)
  3. Can only think no-one wanted to put their chain through all the epi growth at base, especially when grinder is pto driven
  4. It would be a big outlay. There's been some good advice given regarding PPE and saws, but I think for first day on the job it's unnecessary to be wearing full kit and bringing own tools. Don't see the need to be buying chainsaw boots until using one, just wear protective toe cap boots
  5. I really expected topchippyles to go down that route!
  6. Got husqvarna ground and climbing helmets at the moment and I like them both but I wouldn't suggest a particular brand is best for you. Try some out, pick one that fits well. I've had helmets that bobble around constantly and fall off when you bend over, and the muffs don't seal well, it's annoying! You can get the normal spec muffs or chipper spec which are a higher level of protection. In my opinion our ears are fragile (tinnitus :-() so I'd recommend chipper spec, you'll likely be around noisy stuff a lot
  7. I wouldn't worry too much about buying a saw just now Sam, your new boss will have one already! If you're going to spend any money at all, spend it on decent PPE. Priority for me would be a comfy, well fitted helmet with chipper ear protection
  8. That must belong to a bond villian
  9. Nice photo. All dog pics are welcomed, and your jack seems to be judging a felling contest, must be an arbdog!
  10. That's great, bet she loves her life!
  11. I do like little Betty, she looked so cute when you got her, has a nice serious look in her eye now though. Love that she joins you at work. Mine comes with me as well, soon as I start work he just heads to his bed in the pickup. Is Betty ever around livestock?
  12. My Dad always said just stick him in the trailer and take him to the local tip. When the time came my mum insisted he went in a hearse to the churchyard
  13. Do ferrets work as a team or on their own, what are the tactics used?
  14. They were removing a single big tree completely, he mentioned maybe should've got a crane for it but not enough space
  15. Hope there's a decent fry up available while you are waiting
  16. Back on the subject of lady arb's Sam, there's a woman working with Reg Coates. Sorry I don't know how to post a link but maybe someone will do it for me, there's a recent video on his YouTube channel called "tree cutting takes practice" where they do some interesting work 👍
  17. Thought there'd be a lot more to it than being bitten to amuse royalty! Sounds like an interesting life, much like some days as a ground worker!
  18. Thanks for finding that Wonky, very interesting. Sunny Samantha having been in the army I bet you already have the skills for that. I've heard that endless moving things from here to there, tidying things up and digging trenches is what soldiers mainly do?
  19. Had to sit down for a bit myself after seeing the Stihl calendar, the lack of ppe worn was shocking
  20. She's lovely, like the way her ear is up just a little!
  21. Fantastic. Nice to see it progress through different stages, think the specs are a great addition.
  22. Doesn't give much confidence in the local dealer. My local husky dealer didn't know what a T540 was and said they'd have to try ordering in an air filter. Anyway, glad you're up and running. Back to cutting logs 👍
  23. You are very fortunate, like hens teeth those left handed ones. Seen some quality work done with them
  24. Thanks. Have to say you've posted some great dog pics yourself
