  2. I've worked it out Pete, not a holiday you're having is it, it's a honeymoon! Morning all. Day out planned today. We're meeting friends for a kayaking/paddleboard picnic. Weather could be better but the food will be nice, company good and the Vizslas are highly entertaining on the paddleboard so should be fun. Have a good one folks.
  3. Morning all. Not so fine rain here, it's battering down and has been all night, if the forecast is accurate it should be stopping by time I'm at the yard. Fingers crossed. Have a good one folks.

  6. River work the last couple of days but had to abandon cutting on a quiet section this morning, heard a splash upstream from us too big for a fish, further investigation revealed an Otter holt, verboten!

  8. I was imagining something like this but less pronounced so you can read the writing on top clearly
  9. I'll have a go at a serious reply but I'm not a gifted graphic designer. If you're thinking double sided. The front is picture of splitter in front of timber like the flyer but faded to show writing on top, the business name, strap line, contact details. The back has a subtle pattern, maybe a line drawing of a cut stump from above? with your main points listed, road tow log splitter, uniform logs produced in any quantity, experienced and insured, size 13 boots, whatever.

  12. I'll guarantee Mick knows how to pronounce it, just give the fiver to me and I'll drop it off to him when I'm next in his neck of the woods.

  14. Hate a blank first line, it's like conceding a goal in the first minute.
  15. I asked the other half who does HR and contract stuff. She said much what Gareth said above, finished with "your position depends on your employment contract. It should mention in your contract you are an apprentice and the intended formal training to complete your apprenticeship. If your contract states this you can hold them to it, if they fob you off your first port of call is ACAS. If your contract doesn't mention apprenticeship you've been had over, you've no comeback and she advises you leave as soon as practicable because they've shown the type of business they are". 16. Keep thinking about this. Honestly, from the op it seems that there's no intention of putting you through tickets but there might be more to it. You're not happy with things and you need to take control of the situation which will enable you to make a decision. Raise your situation directly, in writing, with the most senior person you deal with (area manager/HR/owner). Make it clear why you're unhappy with the position you're in and request a proposed schedule of progression, including what courses you will be put on and the timescale for doing them. Also ask them If you were to fund courses yourself what increase in wages you could expect. If they can't provide a clear idea of what you can expect then they aren't serious and you can decide whether you stick with it or look elsewhere. I know a lot of people feel uneasy about being direct like this but in the long run you will know by their response if they are serious or are taking the mick, either way you can move forward.

  18. And in future don't be 'told' anything, whatever you agree with your employer should be in writing and have agreed dates of progression.
  19. Hope your customer is happy!

  21. Morning all. Walking day yesterday. We covered forest, moor and riverside, walked the socks of them (and myself!) and we were all in bed early after it. They're still sleeping so I'm getting peace this morning but we'll do it all again before I hand them back later, a good weekend! Have a good one folks.
  22. From what I've heard, or how I understand it (which might be misguided), you legally can't deport anyone without proving where they originated, so if they ditch all their ID and don't admit to where they come from in interview where can they be deported to. Genuine ones that come through accepted channels either apply in their country of origin or are housed here without being able to work or integrate until the decision process is completed, a process which is woefully inadequate and takes an eternity.
  23. I think it's the realisation of the theory that modern western society creates an environment where each generation becomes more stupid and incapable. People that are capable and able to afford to raise children well tend to make conscious decisions to wait until they're settled in a stable relationship, with a stable home and career before having one or two children which they then parent well. The other end of the spectrum is the feckless people that have little ability to look after themselves let alone children, who mindlessly birth one after another safe in the knowledge that society is there to absolve them of their decisions. I've spoken to people who don't seem to live in reality at all. Brand new house, air source heating, two cars and a motorbike with 5 young kids. I said I didn't know how he could afford it having one minimum wage income for seven people and the answer was kids are really cheap to have! Flip side of course, the kids great granny mostly looks after half of them because the twenty something girlfriend that's never had a job can't cope. Quelle surprise.
  24. I'm no pinky agitator, simply a canine advocate, you chaps aren't getting the pooches message!
  25. "we give it all, we're your best friends, we take you up the hill in the dark, in shite weather we're there by your side, we keep you company all day while you arse about, we give you unconditional love every minute of the day, and all we're worth is half a roadkill each? We need a union rep"
