  1. I'm stumped with this, can someone explain please.
  2. Have had a few repairs done by a customer that is retired from theatre costume making. What she has done lasts well. Was mainly seams, pockets and zips. Had old trousers donated by some kind members here for her to salvage 'parts' from, but I'm sure she said a lot was hand stitched so maybe that's stronger than machine stitching.
  3. It's a little finger wheel just next to the pump handle on the front of trailer.
  4. Enjoying what felt like the last chance of summer to have a cooling paddle
  5. Omitting reversing from the HGV test, what a great idea that is.
  6. Welcome, lovely looking dog in your profile photo.
  7. Don't know about rules but I've always tied them myself. Some people I've worked with don't like it but in my eyes you rely on knots you've tied yourself all the time, why would a prussic loop be different.
  8. Yes I had similar thoughts. The flooding is caused by bottlenecks that man has created by building things in the town, but we'll solve it by changing nature somewhere else... Nevertheless, enjoyed the job and it makes for a better day at work than hedgecutting.
  9. It was indeed Stubby. I find river work very engaging although this one was bloody hard work! Maybe a bit too used to using machinery and 27C today didn't help when wearing waders.
  10. Had a couple of days clearing a stretch of a small river, a tributary of the River Tweed which is having its course altered as part of flood works. They've dug a new meandering channel and created a flood plane but before breaking the dam the fish are being removed by electro fishing, to allow this we had to clear everything in the river. Once the dam is broken the original course will be filled in so we also had to clear 1 bank and crown raise the other bank a minimum 2m to give the diggers access. All arisings left on bank so no chipping, just 3 guys with saws. And the things you find in the undergrowth!
  11. Were you counting crows?
  12. A good bow and decent hunting arrow will take down most things. In the right hands of course and those hands aren't mine. Be good to see a photo of your bows to get an idea what they're like...
  13. Thanks, I was imagining smaller stuff, had no idea these bows could take something like that.
  14. What do the Bretons hunt with the bow?
  15. Do like the one on mindfulness where Alice has a wonderful life due to going out at 5am every morning to eat air while thinking mindfully!
  16. Think they are established Jack, PK17 said they were already in an existing raised bed which has been heightened and soil level raised around 6wks ago.
  17. Was just about to say that things don't really like changes in ground level. I'd guess raising the soil level is causing them problems
  18. Don't forget a cassette player and plenty of batteries too, you could be there a long time
  19. Don't bin it! It's so small you'll always have somewhere to keep it, and as you say it carries all those memories. For me it's the Pulse double CD, early edition with the red blinking light on the box cover. Bought it in Guernsey, remember clearly the hire car I first listened to it in. Must be 30yrs of memories that CD and those songs bring back. Edit... Even bought a car at one point, largely because it had a rear spoiler and was called Pulse (A Proton)
  20. Been working the last 3 days for a client recently moved here from London. He's been very good with tea, cakes and biscuits, all supplied in Pink Floyd merchandise mugs and plates. Turns out he has been responsible for all the re-released, digitally remastered stuff along with box sets etc for nearly 20yrs. Had some very interesting stories to tell, and when I listed the Floyd stuff I've got over the years he laughed and said thanks, you've contributed to me paying for all this tree work...
  21. But who would they ask to do a report and where would they find them?
  22. Thanks, interesting post. It does seem I'm in the minority (of one!) on this. Never mind, I've often been hard of thinking when it comes to dogs.
  23. I read about half of them and still none the wiser! Out of interest, would you say bellend or good egg?
