  1. So we took out finance on a £40k + VAT digger with a £8k deposit + VAT (£16k total) up front on hire purchase on 2nd January 2023 with a 4 year term We have a couple of agreements with this finance company and they have always taken the deposit on the day funds were sent to the manufacturer or within 10 days. It's been 9 months now and still hasn't come out... Has anyone else experienced this? Have we got lucky? I want to ask for a settlement amount just to see but don't want to rock the boat lol I know I know, if it seems too good to be true...
  2. As posted before (for Scotland) A client we have who are a claims handler, needs 2 x teams for the Kent area as too far for me to cover. Needs to be a proper company, so insurance, employed staff, proof of certificates etc ideally incorporated for at least 2 years. You quote whatever you want on job and have a 1 in 2 chance of winning it. The money has been good for me, just trying to help them find more teams and they are short up there. Please PM for details or if interested, I need to be somewhat commercially sensitive on here. First come first served as always. If you're not in the area, please don't PM. When other areas come up I'll post. Please PM: Company name Contact number for relevant individual to be called on + email address. Number of teams or staff (ideally needs 1 person who just does quotes/surveys) Approx area covered, for example 20 mile radius from X postcode Arb Approved? - Just kidding
  3. Going to attempt another answer lol You need enhanced, will you get by with basic - almost certainly.
  4. Not if you're being left. Our schools require enhanced. Well, the answer is enhanced no matter what anyone else says, some schools however may ask for basic, but in theory you should be chaperoned at all times and not be allowed to use the same toilets as the children, even if its half term. A lot of schools won't require it during half term etc so long as you don't need to go into the building. The reason they require enhanced was due to an incident with a contractor who placed hidden cameras in the toilets 🤢
  5. Need 3-10 teams for line clearance work around Oxford area - PM ONLY Key benefits: - 30 days payment - Weeks of work issued in batches - Approx £300 + VAT per man daily earnings (Not great IMO, but can sneak a few add ons to make it up) Qualifications required: - each team would need to have 2-3 operatives with at least 1 climber and 1 aerial rescue. All operatives would need to provide all relevant NPTC chainsaw tickets, emergency first aid at work + forestry and have their UA1, UA2.1, UA2.2 & UA2.3. (If you don't have these, they can sponsor a team to get them) Equipment required/wanted: Tracked Chipper/ or Towed (access can be an issue with towed) 4x4 Tipper (this can be a 4x4 tipper) Set of approved and tested insulated rods with the top rod foam filled. Standard arb kit (saws, climbing kit and general tools) Assisted felling kit (Pull rope with pulleys etc to set up 3-1 pull) 1st aid/spill kit and safety documentation Additional kit that is useful but not essential MEWP (with plastic bucket if to be used on live work) ROBO mulcher Tractor and Flail Tree shear Please PM for details as further details are commercially sensitive. BTW - I don't set these rates, not saying they're good, but if you need work it probably beats the domestic market atm lol
  6. Thanks, I have enough now through PM. @Steve Bullman I have a few more areas coming up for both insurance works and line clearance I assume you don't mind me posting? I don't earn anything from this but always found this forum helpful and trying to give back
  7. Anyone around or who is happy to work in Stirling and the surrounding areas, my client needs some teams up there for better nationwide coverage (I do London and Herts) Needs to be a proper company, so insurance, employed staff, proof of certificates etc ideally incorporated for at least 2 years. You quote whatever you want on job and have a 1 in 2 chance of winning it. The money has been good for me, just trying to help them find more teams and they are short up there. Please PM for details or if interested, I need to be somewhat commercially sensitive on here.
  8. The Arb 130 is a very slept on chipper. Bought one last year, it handles everything well, up to 6 inch. Great chipper, even rolled it over on a roundabout and it still works like a champ lol Other than big fells, the team often choose it over our 8 inch EVO205D Wasn't much money, around 13-14k plus vat new
  9. I actually think his course would benefit most companies but his price point (which I don't disagree with) will stop most from giving it a go
  10. Unfortunately you're selling a profitable job and not a business. There was someone who emailed me and a few other companies asking to buy a few weeks ago, purely for market share but I think you had to be 30% commerical minimum. Ill try and dig their details out Re Thors idea of a franchise, I can never see that working (been wrong before and will be wrong again) This is such a 'me too' industry so most will just set up with bare minimum costs, can't see many parting with 5 figures to join a franchise + monthly fees.
  11. Not so much job specific, but if you've had a really long/hard/crap week, try and sort an easy short day to make up for it Try and share the driving about as much as possible A yeti cool box full of ice cold cans does wonders in heat Pay people same day for overtime saturday/sunday I want to say fill up the vans/chippers on the return leg of the job ready for the morning, but we never do Last tip (if you'll pardon the pun) if you're umming and arring??? About whether you will need to tip around 11am, just do it. Don't wait till 2pm and have to stay late waiting for them to come back
  12. I also assumed drought wouldn't affect them. We did have a pretty cold winter, but its been -10 before Seems to of impacted all sizes and ages
  13. Based in Essex but I've noticed it in surrounding areas, literally the majority have died in the last 6 months. Anyone else noticed? Once I started looking its all I could see, definitely more dead than alive. I know they shed leaves but they shouldn't be 100% brown. I actually quite like them ☹️
  14. For the 2 housing associations we work for, the tenants are responsible for the tree. The only time they will step in is if the tenant who must be means tested, cannot afford to remove a dangerous tree. You or whoever lives there needs to check the lease agreement
  15. I completely understand why contract lifts are the only legit lifts, it is a requirement from the HSE is it not? We have to do full lift plans for using our mewp at building sites now (most) including establishing the maximum ground pressure 😴🤨
  16. If something went wrong, I assume they still have to pay out to the effected (a?) Third Parties and then I guess they try to recover it from you?
  17. Not surprised, George Browns servicing and repairs were absolute shit
  18. Ok thanks for the replies, will have a think, looks like I may have to claim on our insurance 🙃 Ill see what they're happy with. Its a council garage roof and we have no contact with the owner (it isn't any of the houses), so should probably get in contact with the council??? Yep, boards in the future, it wasn't even under the canopy of the tree, a peg fell and catapulted off a lower branch. Couldn't repeat it in a million years 😵
  19. One of the guys dropped a peg through this roof, leaving a small hole. Whats the best way to repair/seal? Would fiberglass work?
  20. A Lombardy poplar - Tall, lanky and with poor bone density Just kidding, I'm pretty short. I'm more like a female Ginkgo - I smell like shit
  21. Taking all your points on board, I'm staying out of it! 🙂
  22. I think the answer is almost certainly yes, but just wanted to rule out anything else. I know its only a laurel but they did like it. Neighbours have blocked an underground stream which has made the area area the tree quite wet, not waterlogged at the moment but was bad in winter. On top of this a 3ft deep trench within the root area was dug and concrete fences put in (I'm guessing this is most likely the reason). Attached are a few pics of the leaves, about 50% of the crown has wilted or browned. The picture showing the crown is 4 weeks old and is now at 50% discoloured/wilted, I just forgot to get one today. They also asked if this would constitute criminal damage? (I have told them they need to speak to a legal about that as I can't comment) but interested in others experience
  23. Yeah I know, I think they are trying to level the playing fields after the furlough scheme Even at 0 its still slightly better than self employed but the advantage is only £50ish a month Probably not worth it once you factor in an accountant vs self assessment only
  24. Also true. If you were not married, I think it would look more like this Self Employed on £45k = £35,148 take home Limited company takes in £45,000 Pays out: £12,500 wages £469.20 Employers national insurance (No relief can be claimed if sole director) Profit = £32,030.80 Corporation tax - £6,085 Maximum possible dividend = £25,945.80 Personal tax from the above: Dividend + Salary - tax = £36,278.23 take home as limited vs £35,148 self employed Maybe???
