  1. It's a tough question, as everyone has their own experiences with various brands. The best boot I've had in terms of fit are stein Krieger d30s. I'd be lying if I said I'd done much steep hillside work in them though.
  2. It's a land rover. A tracked mewp is more versatile imo and a good, fresh defender with decent mewp will be about the same price
  3. You try decorating a house with an electric hedgecutter.
  4. Sex tape with a celebrity. But seriously, Quality work speaks for itself, whatever jobs you do get, do them well and give some business cards to your clients, also a sign onsite while you're there with your company name and contact details (if you dont already have sign written vehicles) I've done minimal advertising over the years, finding word of mouth to be the best advert. I wouldnt reccomend leaflet drops personally. I dont think it's a good "look" If you have friends in construction/property maintenance etc, ask them to put your name forward to any potential clients. You might be able to get some over spill from other tree companies in your area, it may be worth contacting them, but beware! People often offload their most awkward clients first! However, if you manage to please the difficult clients, they can become valuable assets when it comes to gaining other work in the same area. Or, as some seem to think, you could smash a conservatory/pool/classic car doing a stunt fell and leg it with the deposit. (This will work as great advertising for the rest of us!)
  5. Genuinely sorry to hear that. Beautiful ol' dog.
  6. Why not? Some ex army mogs are bought for breaking and often in good condition. A lot of breakers have stocks of new parts too. https://www.donnerbauer.com/
  7. Theres plenty of mog breakers in Germany. Generally well cheaper than uk ones
  8. I hear they do well around christmas time...
  9. Poor beagle has been ousted from his usual spot and driven to drink by the new kitten
  10. It's not a staged photo, I walked in from the kitchen and there they were!
  11. Ah now, come on... they're from lidl, they have a three year warranty you know!
  12. I give it max 15 miles until that configuration is reversed.
  13. Natural aptitude. No ticket can get you that. Possibly the most important factor of all. From what I've read here I wouldnt be offering a position to the op, it's taken me too long and too much hard graft building up a reliable client base to risk employing a poacher, I imagine most small companies would be the same.
  14. ...or until the paint dries. I shouldn't mock, we all have to start somewhere. An actual arb company would probably be a good starting point though.
  15. There's chain oil, for chains running in oil baths, it's not the same as chainsaw oil, although I've used both. It could be that. It's a little less "tacky" and lighter than saw oil in my experience, smells a bit more like hydraulic oil. It never did any harm to my smaller saws, but I'd watch it on longer bars, seems to fling a bit more. Can't really comment on the leak, maybe it was about to happen anyway and the lighter oil (if it is that) just seeped through?
  16. I'm sorry I asked. I'm presuming he has magnetic signs and a caravan now. Good luck.
  17. You can certainly do air to oil, I've seen kits for mogs, think a company called tractair does oil to air but I'm not 100% sure, I remember the name, thought it was kinda catchy.
  18. It may be the clients decision, but you should have the decency to let the other fella know the client asked you before going behind his back. It works both ways. I wouldnt consider his offer of using his tools as rude, quite the opposite, it's a sign he trusts you to not damage his equipment imo. Out of interest, what tools have you that he implied were not up to the job?
  19. Absolutely. We will definitely grow it again, I've never seen such variation of pollinators on one plant before.
  20. Not strictly veggies, but we trapped a wild swarm a couple of weeks ago and decided to transfer them to a spare hive and put it in our green manure of phacelia. They seem happy with the short commute! Must take a few pics of the veggies, they're coming on nicely since they finally got some rain.
  21. I've found dedicated plant/equipment movers better for machinery than those that usually run curtain siders for pallets. Cant recomend anyone local to you but it might be worth looking for a company doing nationwide machinery haulage. It would fit on the neck of a low loader beside a digger bucket etc.
  22. Do it. Then fit a roll bar, american jeep style. It'll make you a legend.
  23. I was going to suggest an iseki sxg, but 2 k wont get a bad one.. not being rude.. Maybe a sub compact kubota or similar with a topper? 2k wont get you Much, certainly in a diesel. I wouldnt reccomend a petrol machine for 2.5 acres, the higher purchase price of a diesel is usually offset by the vastly cheaper running costs. That's before build quality comes into play. To be honest, you're in the price range of a domestic mower, but looking to do the work of a small tractor! You might pick up an old kubota g18 for 2k, but I'd expect it to be well worn and possibly problematic. If topping 3 times a year, maybe get a local farmer/contractor/landscaper to do that bit and spend the money on a tidy domestic machine for the lawn?
  24. Maybe it's really a hedgetrimmer trapped in a strimmers body. Dont dare ask it though, it might get offended.
  25. Dunno, try carbon dating it.
