    Dolmar

I am intrigued as I have seen the Makita/Dalmar saws that comes with the metal boxes as to what it looks like inside and is there easy tools storage and securing features?
  2. Already told them that ..... The Customer services person seemed surprised... Strange old world.... It is a shame that makita don't promote Dolmar or do The Makita Versions of their Chainsaws in Orange as it is a damm good saw and they would sell far more of them. I think they are in a state of denial about selling the Blue Makita kit instead of making it Orange to Grounds Maintenance and Arborist professionals....

    Hi Shavey YHM
  5. I had asked about the wrap around handle, fixing screws and a couple of other things and they say that they can't supply and distance them self from Dolmar as though they are an alien competitor business... I did ask if they would special order them in.... and no they can't because they don't recognise Dolmar part orders and don't have access to the Dolmar Schematics.... But thanks to Shavey I will be able to get the parts...

Hi Shavey What's your view on the Full Wrap Handle on 7910? I thought it would be good for doing: awkward wind blown trees Trees on Slopes where it can be awkward to get a good position General felling / Although some have stated to the contrary I do think that the 7910 does look cool with a full wrap handle.... Whats the cost for a 7910 Full Wrap Handle? Also.. - Can you get the 7910 with the Heavy Duty Air Filter? - Is the HD air filter any good or needed in the UK - What is the cost for a 7910 with the Heavy Duty Air Filter? I appreciate that you have a lot happening at home at the moment so only answer when you have time (as per emails)
  8. STERE Thanks for the repair manual... Thats Awesome I already had the parts Schematic and sent it to Makita.... They won't sell the USA Wrap Around Handle and the Heavy Duty Filter Version of the 7910 in the UK... Won't even special order it. DCS6800i Thanks for that link... Most help full but again that doesn't have all the parts.... UK Spec Only..... I am hoping that Shavey can get them... If not I will try and get a German or US Dealer to ship them
  9. Been Dealing again with Makita customer service regarding Dolmar.... (I should have known better by now) and they don't even have access to the Dolmar Schematic.... And say parts don't exist.... O' and they have very little to do with Dolmar.... Apparently they are not even able to look at the schematic on the Dolmar Website and sent me a schematic for a Makita 9010 to pick the bits I need for a 7910..... They really need to have words with them selves...... Looking forward to seeing them at the next Arb Show... I am going to give them so much stick....
  10. Welcome to the outside world... You will find it very different. You will never have the same team/brothers camaraderie .. I left in 87 from and have had a couple of great careers and now work for myself in Grounds Maintenance and starting to get into forestry... I think that you will enjoy it being an arborist as being in and office or sales is soul destroying if you are used to being in the thick of it.... But it won't be the same buzz, but it seems that it will be a much safer options ... In Wales we have a program from 'Focus on Forestry First' and it pays 70% of course fees.. It seems that the modern way is that you will have to have loads of qualifications (But they are all short courses) and I find it strange that there doesn't seem to be a comprehensive course. Worth looking into what local training providers there are to you and what work there is locally to you... Otherwise you might have to travel for work and that could mean working away if your into forestry..... But there will alway be tree surgery ... So there is lots of options for you...
  11. Might be worth looking at Corfa.... I have their high leg work boots and they have carbon fibre toecaps that take the same impact as steel.... I know they do chainsaw boots as well.. not looked at them.... Attn: Carol - 01254 317001 Safety Boots UK Workwear Outlet, Blackburn Kent Street, Blackburn BB1 1DE I have wide feet and often struggle with boots especially from local dealers ... so I went up to their warehouse and they very helpful and had loads of wide fit options in... Might be worth giving them a call and see if they can help...
  12. What would be the biggest sized bar you could get on a Dolmar/Makita 9010 90cc chainsaw and still be effective ?
  13. It is even branded as a SOLO Chainsaw.... As it's not on the Dolmar Websites I wonder who actually makes it?

Has anyone got one of these 'full wrap around handles' on their Dolmar 7910 chainsaw (6800, 7310, 7900, 7910 Range).....? If so how do you find it? Are there any drawbacks having this handle on the saw when operating it? Shavey: Any idea on price for the full handle and securing screws?
  15. Or you could price high and hope that no one else has all the qualification. But remember that tendering is a specialised art form.. You need to understand how they score your tender... Because everything gets a score... There may even be sections of the tender that seem to have no relevance to what services you will be supplying but if they sections are not filled in you loose points. IE: You might be a sole trader with no staff.. But if you don't have equal opportunity staff policies, anti slavery policies, policies for you staff to adhere to, Equal opportunity policies for your staff (that you don't have) to adhere to when dealing with members of the public etc, etc.. Then that could cost you enough points not to get a tender or even bar your tender even if it is the only one supplied. Often the tender have no bearing on reality... or any reflection on what they want you to do. You could be the most expensive tender and if you get the highest score you could and often do get the contract. Tendering is a nonsense art for and a game to be played.. Companies often have hired in specialists that are expert at tendering to get them this sort of work. You also have to remember your fixed prices are only a reflection on what you are tendering for.. When you get jobs outside the tender or the conditions of the tender you charge them higher / extra for the un-tendered work.... It is all a game and there are many companies that know how to play the tender game and make far more than what the original tender was for.

  17. I do mostly Grounds maintenance and this year I added a Greenmech CS100 small chipper to deal with waste from mostly hedge reductions and the odd bit of unwanted branch pruning. This is also a small part of my business but Trust have said that at renewal it will mean that my insurance will have to change to full arborist / tree surgeon insurance even though that is not what my business is based on.. The premiums will also be going up as well... I am also told be Trust that anything that involves chainsaws are going to be on full arborist insurance regardless of the business.. I have had over 20-years of business and have never claimed on my business insurance and only had one windscreen claim on my car insurance since in the same period... I do get feed up with them saying 'but you are high risk' Really...
  18. Which Quality Chainsaw Sharpener Machine are people using? I have a number of different makes (Stihl/Husky/Oregon) and sized chains and want a good quality accurate machine for doing the sharpening. I have been looking at the Oregon 620-230... Whats people views on this machine or what other machines should I look at?

Thanks... Arrived today.... Fitted straight away... And Invoice paid ... Thanks for your help.....
  20. Had a loverly email from Barbara in Technical Admin, Customer Service at Makita UK?? From her comments she is clearly unaware of what is going on in Makita UK... Doesn't even know what the company she works for supplies and from her comments thinks that Radmore & Tucker ( who is one of their Authorised Garden Machinery Distributors / Resellers) is the manufacture of Dolmar Chainsaw and it is up to them to supply a manufactures warrenty?? You really couldn't make it up.......
  21. As others have said that when visiting the Makita/Dolmar stand at the APF Show this year... The Makita Sales team were stating that if you got a Dolmar from a proper Authorised Makita Chainsaw Specialist that PDI's it, you're 1x year warranty would get extended to 3x years when they, the dealer registers it. I also checked this with the sales team direct from being told this prior to purchasing a Dolmar Chainsaw. I then recently purchased a Dolmar 7910 Chainsaw ... Which from first impressions seems to be an awesome machine. Certainly a big step up from the smaller ones I was used to.. (I didn't want a Makita Blue Machine when all my other equipment is a hi-vis colour while undertaking council contracts as I understand there have been issues with their H&S officers wanting all dangerous equipment to be brightly coloured). I also can't complain at the price of the Dolmar to the equivalent Stihl or Husky Chainsaw. For what I paid for it, 'It is a Bargin to be fair!' So I wanted to make sure that I was getting the 3-year extended warranty and checked with Makita UK to ensure that the chainsaw had been registered with them via the customer service department. It appears that you or the dealer can't register any petrol power equipment with Makita Direct reply for from Makita UK Customer service "For Dolmar machines we certainly don’t give out 3 year warranty on petrol machines" This also applies to the Makita Pro chainsaws. "We can only register electrical and cordless machines". So in a nutshell Makita don't register any petrol machines (From the Customer or the Dealer) and there is no extended warranty from Makita UK for the Makita or Dolmar Chainsaw... (It should be noted that you get a 3-year service facility on their petrol concrete slab disc cutters but not warranty).. So when you are at future Arborist Shows and you come across the Makita UK Stand and they have Makita & Dolmar chainsaw they are trying to promote to you professional users... Call them out on the lies they are telling you.. It has got to be a depressed sales team that is lying to their target market. I just thought people on this forum should be aware and have a heads up on what's happening.
  22. If I am correct you might fall foul of needing a Tacho if you carry waste. It is a mine-field.... That is why I said the best thing to do is to talk to VOSA... That way you know what the score is..
  23. You could try: Forest Park & Garden Coed Court, Treforest Ind Est Pontypridd, CF37 5SW Phone: 01443 230000 Email: [email protected] I know that MWMAC Ltd are do a Chipper Courses but they might be a bit far away.. https://www.mwmac.co.uk
  24. If I was you I would talk to your local VOSA Officers. They are normally very helpful when they are not fining you. 1) I think that you also need to check to see if you also need Drivers CPC (A series of one day continuous training days... I think it is 4 or 5 in total). If you do need them it will cost you about £ 100 a day course (So about £ 400.00). If you need them and don't have them upto date, it's a £ 1,000.00 fine. and you could also be put before the Traffic commissioner and he has the power to take your licence away. 2) Re: Tacho the best thing to do is talk to your local VOSA officers.... - If you do need a tacho you will now need a digital tacho card. - You will have to run your whole working day to both: -> The Working Time Directive -> The Driving Time / Hours Directive - They can often work against each other and if you get an infringement on any of them expect a fine if you get pulled by VOSA. If you have lots of infringements expect a heavy fine and you could also be put before the Traffic commissioner and he has the power to take your licence away. 3) If VOSA find any faults on your vehicle and it is not listed on your daily vehicle checks sheet... Expect a fine.. If they are serious expect to be fined and you will have to call out mobile fitters to rectify the vehicle on the spot or take it straight to a repairs for immediate repair. 4) You might also need an Operators Licence as as well... This will also mean that you will have to allocate a place to park up the lorry.. I know that a local 'Tool Sales' guy whose van is his shop and he goes around local garages selling tools to mechanics (Like a Snap-On Dealer)... had to go through this process. As he wanted to park his 7.5 ton truck on his residential drive (Which was big enough) had to go through Local Authority Planing Permissions Approval as well.
  25. Are they the USA or EU Spec ? In fact I will message you direct..
