  1. Go 30” If you need more buy a bigger saw. [emoji106]
  2. The husky can is half price cos it’s crap. Will leak everywhere after 3 months. Absolute pish. The stihl can will be leak free years later. There’s been several threads on the subject over the years. Buy once. [emoji106]
  3. It’s pretty niche, but I get asked regularly enough. Probably I’ll do a few 4.5” and 6.5” oak at some point. (After I’ve moved yard) [emoji106]
  4. Interesting, What’s the specs? And price? [emoji106]
  5. The logosol will only take about a ton. With a substantial frame yiu can put bigger logs on. Don’t try lifting them with the ratchets, you’ll only break the strings. Cut the log wherever it sits, remove part. When it’s small enough you can use the ratchets. We had to use blocks and jacks to move one log. 🤣[emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  6. I’m pretty sure it’ll pull 36” full comp. Personally 30” would be a good bar. I run a 30” full comp on my 461 no problems. Stateside they use 461’s with up to 42” full skip in softwoods. [emoji106]
  7. The speed of cut is the same. However it’s much quicker to set the cut on the logosol. If you’ve ever tried cutting square edge timber with an Alaskan you’ll understand. [emoji106]
  8. It’s all in the today’s milling thread. (With photos[emoji6]) [emoji106]
  9. There are many types of kiln. Literally I’m building an insulated shed, Adding fans and a dehumidifier. Can’t get a Logosol kiln unit until February. [emoji106]
  10. Table tops, work benches, kitchens, desks etc. [emoji106]
  11. You’d be surprised. 8” thick oak slab, 4 years to air dry or 6 months in a kiln. And yes yiu charge a premium. [emoji106]
  12. Hmmm that’ll be a 30” bar then. 🤣[emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  13. If you build a log table inside your Logosol frame, you can mill much bigger logs. I’ve put a 36” bar on, but you have to hold the end up with a stick to start. Bar sag is an issue. So much easier to use an Alaskan style mill over about 20”. Generally I use a 20” bar. Cuts smaller oak yew larch etc. But it’s great for square edged. I’ll be cutting oak and yew mantles and beams soon, as well as boards for construction. Waiting fir the larger Logosol bolts to arrive from Sweden for the 881 [emoji106]
  14. If the universe is kind enough... (If I can sell enough wood) I’m hoping to buy a small tractor in the future, For moving thicker slabs. There’s actually a market for 4,6,8” thick slabs. But they are Extremely heavy!!! Otherwise it’s 55mm until then. [emoji106]
  15. Contingency is the word I’m looking for. The more difficult/dangerous/potentially expensive damage etc The bigger my contingency. Yes engines go pop etc. That’s why we all carry multiple saws. Own multiple vehicles, trailers etc. You can’t just leave that tree half cut whilst you take your saw to a dealer for a few days. But that’s only the long term view.... [emoji106]
  16. Nice boards[emoji108] I cut nearly everything at 55mm these days. Gives a bit of room for planing/routing. [emoji106]
  17. Yeah overheads. Machines and equipment break. Trees don’t always do what you want them to do. Sometimes they’re hollow or badly weakened. Can’t always tell before cutting. Why do a job that might cost you more than the job? [emoji106]
  18. But yeah I’d go with 50-90% incompetence 🤣🤣🤣
  19. That’s why I put not everyone. Meaning there are some decent folks in government. There are some aspects where there is no private sector.
  20. Not everyone in government is incompetent or/and corrupt. Imagine you told the population last year that they were going into on off lockdown for next year or two. Businesses and the economy would crash. You’d have rioting on day one. But with the slow ratcheting up, everybody is following.
  21. This is just a drill, a dry run if you like... Look at history... It’s not this virus which is scaring the pants off government. It’s the deadly mutation they are scared of. In 1918 the deadly mutated virus attacked healthy breeding age adults. It turned their immune systems against themselves. 30%+ infection rate, 25+% mortality rates. This is just the starter... IF the virus mutates like it has done many times before... Our government knows this.
  22. Slow down. You’ll live longer. Do two runs instead of one overloaded. Get a rescue climber. Just stop cutting corners basically. You know you’re taking the pish. Plan your jobs better. [emoji106]
