  3. A stihl 021c for 50euro in 2006 Made in 95, it was ragged. Buy with new chain it cut so much quicker than a bow saw. 3 months of coppicing later, I bought a stihl ms440. Best saw I've ever used. What was your first saw?
  4. My first saw... Should be a thread.
  5. Hmmmm. Not sure that's true. Been rolling in ivy since I was a kid.
  6. If you can cut the rootball off, you get a better idea of value. Might be hollow. If it is solid, with generous heartwood and good grain and colour then £5-£10 per hoppus foot is a fair price.
  7. Walnut sapwood is almost worthless, you wouldn't want to buy a 30" tree with only 10" of heartwood. Can't value the wood until felled. Even then... And don't forget the price for kiln drying after you've seasoned it,with stickers, for 2 years. Inside, in a properly ventilated store. And transporting it to and from the kiln people.
  8. Yes mate, That's not me in the photo, but bout time I got an Arbtalk tshirt. Got any in orange? [emoji106]
  9. Today in a swamp at Gatwick airport. [emoji15]
  10. Fridays job, dead wooding and a small fell.
  11. Great stuff silky [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  12. Loads of gardens (in Brighton backing onto national trust woodland) have been growing like this. It's wrong
  13. It's less dangerous if you wear a crash helmet and hi viz. Whereas stunt wanking.... [emoji12]
  14. A few years back got called in by a gardening firm to quote on felling and clearing, then fencing off a bit of land out the back of a house. About a half acre in central hove. As we were walking round surveying it, several neighbours came out to ask what we were doing. We explained, then they informed us it was a communal garden, offering to show us plans etc. Turns out the client was a big property firm who was trying to do a land grab. Walked away.
  15. Kenny Everett! Spitting image! Wouldn't get produced in this age.
  16. Don't buy a cheap Chinese one as they are faaaaaaaaaar from accurate.
  17. Yeah and wait 12 years without anyone counter claiming. For a one tree job that's a lot of effort. [emoji12]
  18. In all my years cutting, I've only had one guy really try it on. After a few weeks of not paying, I found calling his landline at 5 am everyday to remind him worked a treat. [emoji106]
  19. There are exemptions for felling licences ie: chestnut coppice.
  20. On eBay from £50. Heavy, underpowered and likely to kick back. Without a chain brake it's illegal on site.
  21. Prevailing wind direction? Does it work better on a still or windy day? Have you tried burning kindling for an hour to heat the whole chimney, Increasing airflow?
