  1. Brill thanks. I'll try these if Machine Mart haven't got any in stock.
  2. Brill thanks. Didn't realise they did these ones.
  3. Hi all, I need a winch ready to use on some trees for a job on Tuesday, I'd like to buy one but struggling to find one to arrive by Monday now. Is anyone looking to sell one in the Derby area? Many thanks, Dan.
  4. And councils wonder why so many people are fly tipping. Derby City Council have decided to charge per bag for certain waste at the tip, paid for by the taxayers. How insulting is that!
  5. There are some really great informative videos on youtube about Monsanto and their GM crops. They are an absolute gigantic company and they produce around 80/90% of the worlds food. They basically own the worlds food supply. Don't believe anything Monsanto tell you. Their herbicides and pesticides are used on their crops, but the crops have been modified not to die. Doesn't take a scientist to work out that somewhere down the line the chemicals will be absorbed into the food chain and people will start getting ill. Their chemicals have also been linked to cause cancer in humans. Go right ahead and use Round-up, but make sure you wear a gas mask and a full body suit. Do your research on the products you use. It should be banned.
  6. These Okatsune Japanese Shears - Niwaki
  7. Thanks guys. I guess it's a niche market finding customers who appreciate this kind of thing, and I don't use shears on every hedge because it is just to time consuming.
  8. What an epic series Fawlty Towers was and Manuel was such a twit. I'm sure I'm not the only here but I always had a soft spot for braless Polly. Such a classy woman with rare natural beauty.
  9. When people don't listen.
  10. Never to old dude
  11. A few hours. I had my lad annoying the neighbours with the German tools. The hedge right-angles round the back of the shed in image two, so there was more work than what is shown in the images. A few larger stems had to be lopped. Good results can be had with German tools, but the best cuts can only be done the slow and old-fashioned way.
  12. No trimmers. Loving these therapeutic Japanese tools. A joy to work with. I love the way it slows down your workflow and you can take great pride of doing a proper job. The crispness of the cuts is something you can't get from trimmers. The story Beech Hedge Reduction, Kings Newton - Gardenscape, Derby

  14. Yes that is usually better on a re-pollard because you are inflicting smaller wounds on the tree but on this occasion the willow had to come down in height by about 10/15 foot from below the previous pollard. The few stems that hadn't been reduced, the growth post last pollard was removed.
  15. This post is laughable, I can't take it seriously for a f@@@ing toy. Go and climb the tree and good luck. You obviously haven't got a lot to live for.
  16. Here is the finished tree. Blog post here Weeping Willow Pollard - Chellaston , Derby - Gardenscape, Derby
  17. Anyone know the reason for the take downs or is it the council just wasting money again?
  18. If you haven't heard about the the disgusting action Sheffield council have condemned these trees, you can read up about it below. It really does make me sad when I read about this kind of thing happening. Pensioners arrested after stand-off with police over tree cutting in Sheffield - ITV News
  19. Well done dude, good job. I think it's the fact that you are stimulating your mind by doing something creative and your end product is something you have physically made with you own hands. I love climbing trees and doing work on them, but it isn't really a job that gets the creative juices flowing. Most of us here have access to all this great wood, we could all start making more use of it.
  20. Isn't it normal to feel like that at this time of year? Short, cold wet days it's tough being outside. Every job has the **** side to it. I could never go back to working for anyone again, it sucks big time. Why don't you learn a new skill on the side that has the potential to give you a living later on in life when you are going to be to old climbing trees, something like wood carving. It's quite popular now, but a lot people are carving spoons, making chopping boards, etc. Most markets are saturated now, I'm a freelance photographer on the side and that is probably the most saturated market in the world. It's something I can do in later life and give me some extra money. When spring/summer comes and you still have that feeling of not wanting to be outside climbing trees on a gorgeous sunny day, then you will know it's time to move on.
  21. They are Okatsune from Japan, same brand as the shears pictured. They are better than good, they are amazing. Forget Felco and get Okatsune and you will be asking yourself how the hell did you manage so long without them. Niwaki do sell then as mentioned by Cordwood, but you can now buy them from amazon. Put it on your Christmas wishlist
  22. Hi Folks, Had a nice little beech hedge to reduce today. What made it so enjoyable was that I opted for manual tools and I could really take my time with it getting nice clean cuts. We removed the tree also. Customer was well pleased. Annoyed I only had my phone for the photos. More of the story here http://gscape.co.uk/beech-hedge-reduction/
  23. Another one for welding gloves here
  24. I have no words how bad this was. I'm disgusted.
  25. All it takes is a minute dude. Keep locked up!
