You just know butts of branches will keep hitting those notches inside the hopper! Very poor design.

I have the Jo Beau M500. I few years ago they global recycling quoted me nearly £300 for a set of knives. I was in disbelief. I decided to sharpen them myself. They weren't at a stage where they were heavily chipped, just very dull . I decided to skim them with an angle grinder using a flap sanding disk. I've now done this for about two years regularly to the same knives and I have them still working and same bearings since I got the machine about 4 years ago. As long as you aren't stripping a lot of metal back that will seriously imbalance the weight on the knives, it's not an issue.

The whole system is rigged against us. I hate it.

The key to making a good wage is working for yourself and not being a subby climber/groundy. That is a fact. Most industries are poorly paid unless you work for yourself. That is where the money is.

I noticed this on my hedge this morning. Although leaves are still turning yellow the mild weather has prompted the Beech to start coming back into leaf. I've also noticed some flowers appearing on my Laurel hedge and I still have Raspberries fruiting. Is anyone else noticing unusual things happening with their plants with this mild weather?

Will a lot of small domestic tree firms go bust?
Gardenscape replied to Clutchy's topic in General chat
I've seen big arb firms, most run their business with clapped out gear and bad mannered staff with attitude issues who just come for the pay cheque. I'm with Mark Bolam and share the same views as him. I own all my own gear, it's all well looked after and my customers get top service because it's me they like dealing with, and that is the main reason they keep coming back. If I was to send someone else, I'd likely lose the customer for good. I control what jobs I take on, when I do them and I take a holiday when I like. On bigger jobs I have a few trustworthy lads who are similar to me. I can bring them in and I pay them more than other bigger Arb firms can and they will work less at the same time and finish early. The main thing though is us small business owners have time to truly enjoy our lives without stress. Anyone who wants to go big they you do that, but people like Clutchy trying knock us small businesses for staying small really need to concentrate on their own business and stop preaching to us. -
Built this for my new extra cab Hilux over the weekend. The ally was around £950! Was quoted £1800 for something similar, so decided to make it myself. Quite proud of it actually. I'm looking to add an angled roof section to the front of the chipbox to reduce chip flying out

I have had this trailer for nearly two years now, like you say, the only downside is the angled floor at the back. I use it to transport the Jo Beau M500 and then chip into it on larger tree jobs. When I don't need the chipper then it's perfect to take on trimming jobs and the 10 step tripod ladders lay perfectly flat on top and can be tied into place. For the pickup setup it's perfect. It's a solid trailer and the A frame is thick steel. Very strong. The tipper is manual, but works well and can be modded into a battery operated tipper.

Using my face on their Website & I didn't give permission.

Find a hacker to take his site down. Won't be a hard one to hack. Also, publicly post his email address on every dating web site and sign him up to as many junk mail web sites you can find. If you have his address then he will be flooded with junk mail for being such an unhelpful d*ck. -
Just wondering if there is anyone in the Derby area who do basic chipbox conversions? I've had a quote from BL Searle but they are in Bedfordshire. It's not a million miles away but they want the vehicle for 2 days to fit and I was hoping they could do it in a day. I just want alloy panels to extend the height of my tub, but I want it to look like a pro job. Any help welcome. Cheers.

Concerns as to if we will have business suitable vehicles to run....
Gardenscape replied to Jamie Jones's topic in Arb-Trucks
Tbh mate, I don't think it would be worth it. The tub bolts and tub itself is rusting everywhere now. Won:t be able to weld to it because there isn't good metal to weld to. I wouldn't even be able to undo the bolts because they are so rusted. Shame really. -

I'm in the same predicament now. My Hilux 2004 has been bullet proof for the past 6 years, but it's suffering from rust across the whole underside of the tub and has big holes around the fixing supports to the chassis. I reckon it will fail it's MOT in December, so I'm looking for a new pickup for around 10k, but what is available doesn't fill me with much confidence. Pickups now look like pleasure vehicles. I don't want the transit or anything larger as I don't need it . Kind of stuck at the moment. -
Hi! I need a climber as and when in Derby. All my work is smaller domestic work, pretty nice jobs most of the time and very decent pay. If you live in the area, then please send me a message. You do need the relevant NPTC qualifications CS30,31 (optional CS38, 39). Having your own PPE and climbing gear is essential. Look forward to hearing from you. Thanks, Dan.

Hi mate, glad to hear things are ticking over. When I last commented on this back in April it picked up a few weeks later, I've been petty busy over past few months but this week and last, the phone has been very quiet. Haven't really got much coming up apart from a few days here and there. I guess people are going away on their holidays or maybe holding back on their money for obvious reasons. To be honest I'm even considering looking for a part-time job in something completely different. I think diversifying my career a bit will be good for me.

If anyone, especially the midlands and down south, is sending your lads out to work all day tomorrow then you are a disgrace. Just reschedule your work for another week when it's cooler. Sunstroke is a massive risk tomorrow and Tuesday. Humidity in the UK is horrible and it feels far hotter than it actually is. I just know there will be bosses who don't care and will tell their lads to work or find a new job.
