No thorns, no pods. Quite a few people have settled on gleditsia. I agree, honey locust.

From memory no thorns but I shall check later and get back to you on the pods.

I’m stumped I can’t get away from robinia or black locust but neither fit the growth rate

Yes I thought robinia but these are between 30-40 year old never pruned!

They are about 30 year old. Very slow growing.
  11. Is a burka ban racist?
  12. Keeping things simple means there is less to go wrong. Someone mentioned a rope should be the last thing to go wrong, I think it should be the first, if it is the last you could end up with a chunk of metal be it biner, pulley etc flying at you because your rope is the strongest bit of kit in the system.
  13. Does anyone rig in its most basic form ie just using a rope and the tree your in?
  14. Anyone done it? If so how did you find it? Thinking of signing up for next year. http://ratrace.com/manvsmountain/ Really fancied the man vs coast but the wife is due in march and going away for a long weekend with a 2-3 month old sounds like too much hard work!
  15. Chainsaw pants and t-shirt in the summer same in winter with the addition of a merino wool base layer! It’s all about the merino wool, I even only wear merino wool socks! Waterproof (for clean up), spare t-shirt and a jumper in the van for a dry drive home if wet.
  16. It’s a shame we don’t have a 3rd party that is a serious contender as a party in the centre at the moment would walk it.
  17. None taken i read a few, all apps nowadays, the content maybe skewed to suit an agenda but i though it would make a good topic for tonight as irrelevant of how it is written and by who the message is clear. The one thing party conferences offer us is a chance to scrutinise.
  18. No probs it is why I asked, you have the inside view, biased or not it is probably the best view in this house for us to ask and to use as a base to start an opinion of our own on the subject.
  19. I don’t think anyone really gets offended in this thread, I wouldn’t worry about offence caused too much however you must see the irony in being extreme against the extreme
  20. @eggsarascal am I right in thinking you work/ed for united utilities or similar? What do you make of renationalising water?

  22. I’m genuinely interested in why @matelot was in the 3rd world. Some of his views from his experience I concur with as I have seen corruption 1st hand in a 3rd world country too. I do not tar them all with the same brush however as I also saw goodness in a lot of people from the same place. I was working in the 3rd world and ill stick my neck out and presume @matelot was working too and fair enough if this is the case however I am happy for people from the 3rd world to come to the UK to work if they can offer a skill or something we are short on. I really think we should mirror the Oz system for immigration, benefits should be off the table full stop as should the nhs for a number of years, health insurance a legal obligation for a number of years then when a contribution pot has been built up nhs access. I think we have a lot of non British doctors and medical staff to use an obvious example and I commend them and respect them as they come here to make a difference to their lives and in the process they make a difference to ours! In summary we need people in this country and people who want to come to this country to pay for the privilege so we can stay great (couldn’t help the cliche) Britain as we have future generations to think about not just us in the here and now.
  23. @matelot why where you in the 3rd world?
  24. WesD

    Rates

Everybody values their time and skill sets differently, I pay people different rates to do the same job based their efforts, skill sets and attitudes. Look after the good ones and they’ll help you out whenever you need it or they’ll stick around, under value them at your peril.
  25. Turkish Hazel I intend to agree. Answer @Steve Bullman ?
