I dont agree with anti-vaxxers on the whole. But I think we're on another slippery slope as to what we have a say on what goes into our bodies. The push now is to ban anyone who does not agree to be injected with a cocktail of chemicals from School, flying, whole countries etc etc. So where dos this stop? Personally I dont think Chicken Pox is that bad a thing. We've all had it. A lot of our parents used to host Measles and Chicken Pox parties after all. But the Chicken Pox vaccine contains aborted fetus. Surely we can make an informed choice not to inject ourselves with what many feel is a murdered human being? I for one would not like to have this forced on me. Yet people who make a conscious or religions decisions not to do so are being persecuted and excluded. Where do we draw the line?

Yeh I get that. He's getting a quote from a Saw Mill. If I can better it I'd do the job. If its not worth it for me I'll not bother.

So, Ive been asked to Mill 500 meters of 1"x8" Oak. If Im correct in my calculations thats 1093 Board Feet? So if going by the Doyle Log Scale I should yield 192 Board Feet from a 12'x20" log. Then Id need 6 logs to get the required 1093 Board Feet. But in reality is this the case? Assuming the logs are clean? Anyone know what the current price for sawn oak is? Cheers.

How does it sell or do you keep it for personal use? I have a change to get a load but asking here seemed like it was not really worth the hassle?

Think of it a a well deserved break. Do some paperwork. Buy some stuff on ebay. If your times been bought then its been bought. You could always ask to have your pay cut to 6 hours a day I guess?

If they pay you you work for them. Its that simple.

But how does the boss know this? How does he gauge your honesty? Would you prefer to keep a log? That might work? But even then its just your word. If you have 30 minutes for lunch then leave 30 minutes earlier then surely you should inform them of this? So they know why the site is empty 30 minutes earlier. Plus with the ipad, surely you can disable tracking once you clock off? Agree that you're not tracked before or after the working day?

If it was worth it in the long run then Yes. You can always say no and work for someone else. If you dont like it then dont work for them. Im not saying your not. But the question has to be asked why they feel the need to implement this then? Clearly you are not the only Sub Contractor and maybe some bad Apples are spoiling it for every one? And it seems the Main Contractor feels they dont have that with their Subbies.

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me. You're on company time, so Im sure you have nothing to hide regarding your work or how you spend time you sold to the company? If you dont like it then dont Sub to them.

Ah ok, I was way off then. Well again, you'll need to let us know the dimensions of what you plan on Milling. If you plan on getting a 36" Chinese copy Alaskan then in my opinion you should look to get a Stihl 066/660 or the Husky equivalent. I bought a used 064 for around £300 and it works great with the smaller 36" Mill. So say £300 for a used saw thats up to the job. £120 for a Chinese Mill. £180 for a Lo-Pro Bar and a couple of Chains. You'll need a Ladder for the first cut (or a first cut system) A Battery Drill, a cheap Winch. So to get going you'll be about £600-700. If you plan on getting a 48" Mill then, again in my opinion, you'll be looking for a bigger saw. I bought a used 088. So; £500-£1000 for a Saw. £120 for a Chinese Mill. Not up to speed on what a 48" Bar costs now and a couple of Chains at around £60-70 each. If you want to Mill smaller than this then I guess its cheaper yet. Or look at getting a Logosol M7, M8 or the fancy new F2.

I was in the same situation as you last year so Ive spent a lot of time researching whats out there. From speaking with other members here and elsewhere the general consensus seems to be buy as big as you can afford. You may not need the size now but you will regret it later. Another consideration to keep in mind is second hand Mills lose very little value. When you talk about entry level you'll have to let us know what minimums you require then you can build from there. Length is an easy one. Most manufacturers of Mills are a set length for each manufacturer and you buy add on sections as per your requirement. Another consideration is how you plan on powering your Mill. Electric or Petrol/Diesel. Yet another consideration is if you intend on buying a Trailer Package for it. There are a few brands to spend time investigating; Woodmizer, Norwood, Woodland Mills, Logosol, Trak-Met, Theres others but cant think of them off the top of my head. If I was you and was looking for an all-rounder Id go for the Woodland Mills HM126. Maybe start there?

Ah bugger. Yeh, best thing to do is walk away. Super frustrating though. I had an issue with the Logosol where I stretched the springs till they broke. Almost set up ready for my first cut before I went off-shore. So disappointing. Im sure you'll get it figured out soon enough.
