  1. They've gone ahead BEFORE you got a chance to send some quotes etc...? How do / will the courts see this...? As said, sound like chancers thinking you're dad will cough up....
  2. Didn't know that David.... Wonder if Nixons will then buy a / some depots down south, as when I was there, they were about to expand further south than a depot they got beyond Bradford....
  3. Why not try and go to Hewdens directly...??? 'It's a disposal auction 'for a reason'... I used to work for Nixon Plant Hire, and many people would come straight to us to buy a machine, thus leaving the really bad stuff for the auctions...
  4. Was there another cause that could have 'helped' it to it fall...? OK, they had rain / storms etc, but what if they had felled trees in the vicinity to then 'expose' that tree to the wind and rain....?
  5. We do it with pallet wood (broken down crates, body panels come in), from the Nissan factory... It's sacrilege cutting this wood! The quality of the wooden crate is I think, better than what you'd find in a DIY store... Clean, untreated with anything. Even the corner blocks are solid cubes - not them pressed chip blocks. OK, there maybe a few nails after burning, but a magnet sharp sorts them out of the ash... We've even got an outlet for them and the off cuts, so there's zero waste here.
  6. I know someone who got one of these for their telehandler..... If you get one, 'double up' on the hearing protection!!!!!!! He said this, even though he was in a full glassed cab with the doors and windows closed... I've done a similar thing too. But, I managed with a tractor mounted hedge cutter and chain saw for the bigger limbs. It took a few passes too BTW - couldn't do it in one 'swipe'...
  7. We're thinking of doing this too, to our vertical splitter though.... We're going to use old mower blades from a tractor mounted mower, the ones that cut the grass for silage, not your house hold garden mower... Offset each one next to each other to lessen the risk of jams.... Think of Freddy Krugers glove from that 80's horror movie... I think that's the best way I can describe how we hope to design ours, as we'll only be spitting pallet wood (slices?) for kindling - not solid chunks like in that video....
  8. 'WEEKS'!! ?? Months, or even years more like..... We've (finally) just got an Amazon Fire stick.... Curry's have had none in since well before Christmas, and so yesterday was the first day they were back in..... We're just learning how to load and navigate Kodi on it now...
  9. Already looked around.... Nothing else appeals... So just thought of putting my licence 'back into use'....
  10. Maybe next time the carpet's up.... Which I hope is not too soon.... Just got the bathroom finished in time for Christmas, and that was a nightmare.... Found doors behind plasterboard, bare (LIVE!!) wires behind ceiling cladding, kinked / ready to burst water pipes under the floorboards. And the radiator? I just don't know how that worked with the amount of kinks and bends in it's pipes also...?
  11. HGV driver.... Already have my class 2, so half way there. But left the job literally weeks before the DCPC came into force, so just need that. But was recommended to go for my ADR too this time round after a customer came to our work (he was an actual transport manager for a big company)...
  12. They're called sh!it stars round here.... Not many seen on the roads.. Does that mean something..??? People who have had them round here, say that your left foot (steel toe cap) would smash the fuse box thus causing all kinds of problems... Cab over the front wheel makes them feel more bouncy than they really are too...
  13. Which is why I'm also thinking of 'going back to school' (thread), in the new year....
  14. Passed info onto boss..... Not interested.... Says (bragging??), he can get it for £40ton DELIVERED!!! Waste my breath sometimes passing info like this on... Think you're doing right when you may as well.....
  15. House is knocking on 80 years old (I think), so not really a 'newer build' that's worrying about radon gas etc.... The water table IMO, is quite high round here, so maybe it's was a 'back up' built into the house for if the damp proofing ever failed. The air can even free flow between the partition supporting walls under the floor boards... Best explanation is that it looks like a chequered flag under there. From pavement to front door, you rise / climb about 2ft... Trying to give you an idea of house height....
  16. Our house is slightly elevated and has a 2ft 'void' between the joists and the actual concrete 'base'..... This void is fed / vented by air bricks from the outside, so my thinking is..... If I fit a bigger (should say better), stove that needs a vent, would I only need to put the vent down through the floorboards to feed off the air coming into that void from the outside??? Or does the vent have to be more 'direct', instead of having to 'travel' through other places first...?
  17. Had a similar 'close call' a while ago... But it was the wife that said to no longer wear my wedding ring after that!
  18. It sold yesterday..... Back to the axe again for now I guess......
  19. How much is it to hire the Kindlet...??? Boss has been 'looking' at them, but he (IMO), should try one first...
  20. Cut and split the last of the soft wood for this year on Thursday. 'Was', going to start on the hardwood, but you can't get near the pile now due to all the rain we've had, it's like a bog between the access track and the logs.... So instead, he's gone and bought in some bard dried / barn stored hardwood form another farmer friend....
  21. We're looking into fitting 'several' wireless ones to both the combine harvester and into the tractor used for towing the grain trailer(s)...... Camera fitted to the end of the unloading auger looking down, with monitors fitted into both the combines' cab and the tractors' cab. You can then see just how far you have the auger to the rear of the trailer, as it can be fairly hard to judge sometimes, and especially at night... It should stop us form having spillages over the rear of the trailer, and help with loading the trailer more 'neatly' - hopefully to stop any sideways spillages too once out on the road....
  22. 'Maybe in a state of deforestation'...???? We're already there!!!
  23. Got the cause whittled down to the repeated lifting of log rings onto the splitter, and (currently*) hand chopping of kindling. There's just no let up at the moment. *He's mentioned recently about getting a kindling machine, but I VERY much doubt that will happen....
