  1. Not me Big J... Him! Was offered cash to take them, as they knew he did 'wood'.... And so when they arrived, it was 'ooh we'll (more like ME!) do X,Y and Z with it'.... He knows of one person that'll take pallet wood for burning - they're not bothered about nails etc... The wood is totally clean though, untreated etc. You mention the rage saw though...? I've seen years ago, that you could get a similar blade for normal Stihl saws too... Thoughts on them??
  2. Is there out there, a chainsaw chain that can deal with nail gun sized nails in pallet wood?? Boss has taken delivery of pallet wood, complete with their nails! So instead of wasting loads of time looking for the nails and deciding 'where to cut' every second, could you use a chain that'll just munch through the nails...???
  3. You do know of the 'Wood fuel Barn, at High Spen' too though don't you?? Is there scope for you to set up round there too?? Just this got mentioned today at work.....
  4. You got me thinking there too.... If you remove the bracken, and not do anything else to the land, won't the land then suffer soil erosion...???
  5. Worked with their daughter Nikki years ago.....
  6. Could you do the same for knotweed?? Doubt they would like it baled, maybe bagged in some way (lessen the risk of spreading 'bits' to then grow), and so use it for all these biomass power stations going up...??? There's a biomass station going up in Cramlington here, but just define 'biomass'...? Is it going to just be chip, pellets, or 'any' kind of 'burnable' waste?? Including pallets...?
  7. Boss says try Euro forests, or A&J Scotts at Wooperton too.... We've dealt with Scotts a few time now...
  8. Climbers??? What about the guy on the groundies etc??? Or are they ten a penny??
  9. We get our hardwood from the Real firewood company... See ad above..... Ready cut, split and crated. All you need to do is break the crate down to the size dumpy bag you're going to sell it in. ... Where are you around Newcastle, boss maybe able to advise better. ....? ??
  10. Wouldn't the bracken then give the tree harvesting a break while you wait for the trees to grow?? Story goes round here, they're harvesting the trees faster than they can replant them.... And so when the demand really, REALLY gets going, won't wood fuel just become as expensive? ?
  11. Didn't look as if it mattered if it's baled in the wet... It's going to be dried and made into logs for wood burners later anyway....
  12. Going to be an article on Countryfile, about using Bracken as a fuel for wood burners.... Let's see how it goes....
  13. Where's this thread going now.....????
  14. Worked for two plant hire companies round here...... I think they worked the hire charge out by making the hire charge 1% of how much the machine would be brand new....
  15. £60 to retip and sharpen a circular blade!!!???? We were quoted around £300 for ours!!!! Anyway, if you search 'Rytec eco 800' you'll see the log holder 'blade', not like the Tajfun one in the video....
  16. What have I started here.....?? 'What have you found inside the logs while chopping???'
  17. Log clamp just before the blade..... A good example of how good ours is..... Get a pencil and hold it down with your little finger on a flat surface (desk perhaps), then just push the end of it. Doesn't take much to still move the pencil does it....?
  18. Settle this question.... With your Dalen - or any chain bladed processor, do you suffer many nips / jams / early blunted chains etc?? Had this argument many times before we (HE) bought the Rytec, saying chain blades are less cost effective against circular blades?? Also, I've just been informed by a visitor yesterday, that it's not a 'standard' chain on your type of processor, but a 'harvester' chain that's stronger / better...?? Thoughts / info, thanks..??
  19. Probably, after I just watched a video of one..... A constant 'exposed' moving part.... Wouldn't like to slip and fall onto that.....
  20. I'd say chain blade instead of circular blade too now.... Circular blades (I have found now), 'nip' dead easily. Because they're spinning constantly (ours anyway), if you have a jam, you're running for the stop button, and if you don't get to it quick enough, you're burning / snapping belts.... Ever considered the noise level too?? Again, circular blades are howling all the time, but chain blades only run when needed, which is why I have a supply of headache tablets not far away from ours - and that's regardless of wearing the full PPE too.... Other than my input, gdh has got it in one for what to consider.....
  21. There was a story round here of a WHOLE bike and securing chain been found in a tree.... Yes, as in the tree was then left long enough for it to grow over / around it!
  22. Been VERY unlucky we're guessing. Don't think they've came from anywhere there's been hedging / fencing... And I don't know if you can see properly, but in one of the photos, the nails are the really old square type. Asked about them, and people have said they're from a long, LONG time ago, they were in the centres of the rings, which were easily 18/20 inches across - so what's the estimate of their ages???
  23. Chopping logs...???? Do you not mean NAILS!!!! ???? Not just one or two either..... Just seemed to got through a spate of hitting nails that were right in the centre of huge rings.
