  1. Ah good man are you a dealer/shop, do you have a website or a phone number and how would I pay you ? Beautiful saw to use, runs, revs and cuts superbly, shame about the diabolical tool-less chain adjuster/bar clamping system !...
  2. Got a 'Stihl FS55' 2006 model and have used it extensively over the last 9yrs, it'll make mince meat of any of the ones we have at work it just seems to cut no matter how big the task is and I finally decided to give it it's first ever clean and service today so to say it's reliable is an understatement as it's put up with my abuse for the last 9yrs !... Oh, and they come with a blade as part of the deal, uhh well mine did anyway !...
  3. Air leaks are the usual culprits when it comes to a motor that hunts for an idle !...
  4. Got an 'Echo' at work very similar to the one your looking at which is used as a pole pruner and strimmer, not a bad little tool for what it is but if your intending on giving it a hard time then I'd be very careful as it's not the most robust of machines !...
  5. Re; Spur vs Rim for 261, about 6-7 threads bellow this one !...
  6. Looks like 'dollar spot' to me usually caused by a lack of nutrients but without having a proper gander at it I couldn't guarantee that, if I'm right and 'I'm fairly sure I am' (I'm a Greenkeeper by trade) then you'll need to feed the lawn !... Oh, and water it as well !...
  7. There's a thread on here somewhere concerning an issue with the sprocket and bearing assembly on Stihl 261's, never had any issues with Stihl's myself but I plumbed for the '550XP' anyway !...
  8. Hi, just wondering if any of you chaps know anything about the 'Makita EA3201s' it's the Q-A model as opposed to the 'EA3200s' which has the standard twin stud bar clamping arrangement, what I'd like to know is if it's possible to remove the rear blanking stud without damaging the saw so that I can adapt it to take the standard 2 stud drive cover ! I know that all the chain tensioner parts for the 3200s fit and the drive cover will fit without the rear stud but I'd like to have the rear stud in place if possible ! By the way the 'Makita EA3200s' is basically a 'Dolmar PS32-c' and the 'Makita EA3201s' is a 'Dolmar PS32-TLC' if this helps ! Any help will be most appreciate, many thanks T7...
  9. I set em so that they just start to creep along (snails pace) on tick-over !...
  10. Yeah I must say I'm quite pleased with it, as for the 'Sachs' I'm sorry to say that it blew it's piston a long time ago (probs 10yrs or more) and ended up in a skip I think, it was a bloody good saw (bloody heavy, all cast) but the company I worked for at the time just replaced it with a '250 series Stihl' in fact I think it was when the 'MS250's' first came out so probably early 2000's if I remember rightly !...👍
  11. Am I rite in thinking we're on about the clutch bearing melting only if so we had the same problem at work with our 231 which would melt the bearings for a pastime and whine like a hungry mutt when idling, I sorted it by not tightening the chain as much as we're told to on our courses, through years of experience with Stihl saw's I know for a fact they don't like a tight chain !...👍 Sorry if I'm on the wrong track !...
  12. I have to say the Makita's a bit of a Rooster when it gets going, it sings beautifully and like I say even though it's only 32cc it's easily a match for my 141 Husky which I think is 41cc although they both have a problem with the chain/clutch covers the Makita is quick-adjust and the Husky has melted the clutch cover which from what I can make out is about the norm for a Husky with a plastic clutch/chain cover !...
  13. Hi, I recently picked up cheap a 'Makita EA3201s' just for something a little different (not to impressed with the Q-A I must say) anyway I've used Stihl extensively over the years and have recently got my hands on a Husky or two (also used a Sachs Dolmar with a 40" bar if I remember rightly but that was a few years ago now) do any of you gents rate the Makita's much or are Stihl and Husky pretty much the dominant manufacturers when it comes to all things chainsaw only I noticed the Makita has a fare bit on the Stihl 170/180 series saw's I used to use for snedding/brashing and felling of smaller trees and is a fare match for my 141 I have to say, any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated !...
  14. A friend of mine used to fit carpets in between doing his day job nothing serious just for friends /family for a bit of beer money although when the inland revenue turned up on his doorstep they didn't see it in quite the same light as him anyway it turned out some of the local carpet fitters dobbed him in and it cost him nearly 20k in fines, just a little 'food for thought' as to who may have burst your bubble matey !...
  15. My Stihl 011/14" bar but it's dropped its reed valve and wrecked the barrel and piston I've got a Makita EA3201s/14" bar (good saw, shite chain tensioner system) and a Husky 141/15" bar (fair saw, shite plastic clutch cover) but also have access to a Husky 136/15" bar a 435/15" bar and a Stihl 231/16" bar so enough for me to be getting along with for now although one more is still never enough !...
  16. Bad news buddy hopefully the little shysters'll cut their own legs off, as for the boys in blue re-acquiring your objects of desire for you well good luck with that !...
  17. This is correct, PA1 and 6 will be required to be able to obtain the suitable chemicals required for the job, I'm a Greenkeeper by trade and have had to do the certs for my job, you can spray without a cert on your own property but you'd be better off peeing on the weeds rather than waste your money on the premixed B'S you'll get at your local garden centre, any reputable dealer/agri supplier worth his salt will NOT sell you the real McCoy !...
  18. I've heard of 'chain trenchers' before but never a 'chainsaw trencher' cool !...👍
  19. Hi all, I have recently passed my 'crosscut and felling' although I have used saw's and been around tree surgeons for years, I'm a qualified Greenkeeper by trade but am possibly looking for a change of scenery as I can't see myself cutting grass till the day I die so I joined this wee site of yours to get a better insight into the life of a 'lumberjack' if that's the correct term ?...👍
