  1. Does look like that, agreed. Conventional wisdom would suggest weak attachment points snapping out rather than the whole tree failing. Probably someone will link the topping with the whole tree failure
  2. I don’t think it’s about counterweight, it’s about wind effect being concentrated at the top of the tree, creating more force on the base as opposed to more of an even block effect on the whole tree. Clearly I’m no Applied Mechanics student, but i’d be interested in theories.
  3. Looks denser, deodar branches twist when over cleaned/thinned, changes the dynamics of the whole tree imo.
  4. When I started in 95, we used to deadwood the bollocks out of deodars, they looked great, clean and tidy. I noticed passing the same trees months/years later that they often had twisted broken branches. I started to think that this was counter productive and have chatted about it with others who have noticed similar consequences. Anyway this deodar went over in Leamington Spa earlier this month, seriously injuring a young man and his family. Deodars don’t habitually tip over in one go in my experience, normally they die or break apart over time. I look at this level of ‘cleaning/lifting/thinning/deadwooding’ and I wonder if this was a contributing factor to it’s going over in one. Are we lumping all trees in one ‘one size fits all’ category for trying to make them safer in high risk situs? All thoughts welcome.
  5. Musk and Trump will fall out, and it will be spectacular !

  7. Misty here, off to do a freebie grinding job for the BiL. He’s got some plastering to do chez nous at some point. Anyway, it gets me out of the house!
  8. Yes, I don’t sell it as a rule, but this landscaper has a big maintenance/construction project so is happy to pay for it delivered.
  9. morning all. End of week chip delivery.
  10. One of my particular gripes about modern climbing equipment is the small diameter line.
  11. Out of curiosity, doesn’t the city own that land?
  12. Ha ha, ouch!
  13. What has Elon Musk said about it? Can’t imagine he’s in the dark on something like this.
  14. Wordle 1,278 2/6 🟩⬜⬜⬜🟨 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 More than a bit of luck, but I’ll take it when it’s offered
  15. I’ve had bangers and I’ve had new trucks. New trucks are better for pricing, sort of forewarns the client that the numbers are going to be serious. But, as Mark points out, a recommendation or an existing client won’t care that much.
  16. How much do they cost to replace? FTR I have the Vanguard in my grinder Rayco RG35. I had to replace the head gasket, but otherwise it’s been reliable. Admittedly it’s got carbs not injected. If the engine is not too pricey, throwing a new one in every 1000/1500 hours isn’t that bad.
  17. Maybe not a huge improvement, at worst an incredibly minor inconvenience.
  18. As long as you’ve the money on it for a handball extraction it’s ok.
  19. So, yes and no.

  21. Re. Your question @Johnsond. I think Russia is an genuine threat. No one on here really understands the various loyalties and affiliations in the border area, what’s Russian and what’s Ukrainian but the invasion was just that an invasion. So to save time and summarise, I’m pro Ukraine. The Russians have been sold the war as a continuation of the fight against fascism. I suppose there are parallels to be drawn with the war against Finland, one is that the Russian army is poorly equipped and motivated. I’m guessing that when it ends Russia will claim victory in the same way. I also suspect President Trump will be more interventionist than he led us to believe.
  22. The other three were practically pro dancers anyway, so yay for the public votes.
