  1. i'd take the £200, quickly:confused1:
  2. only watched the first 30 seconds but i'd vote for him!
  3. I think having spoken to them again that they recently bought the property and want to put their stamp on it, have agreed some other work that needs doing, trees get to live a little longer:thumbup:
  4. I've only brought people in on a casual basis so probably have no right to comment, but having worked for a number of firms over the years and been lumbered with the new starts. Its a lottery, some look promising but turn out wasters and vice versa, you might just have to work through the deadwood until you find the right recruit.
  5. thanks folks, spoke to them today, politely told them I wasn't prepared to work on the trees as anything I did would jeopardise the health of the trees and create an eyesore, meeting them tomorrow to discuss other work around the garden that will be more beneficial:thumbup:
  6. think there are a few vids of him making charcoal on youtube?
  7. no deadwood and quite far from the house, they don't need any work and anything I do will ruin their shape and leave them exposed to disease.
  8. i'd be tempted! Can you successfully thin/raise/reduce monopodial species to look natural?
  9. Will get a few tomorrow as I need to call for yet another site meeting!
  10. Sorry for this one but a family friend has asked me to "do something with some trees" in their garden. They're not causing a problem, not blocking light, in good health, customer just wants something done with them Explained the risk of disease once you start cutting at a healthy tree, customer would still like something done, explained if they're not causing any problems then best left alone, customer is still adamant they want something done, possibly thinned! not sure what can be done to either tree as they are both a nice shape, even foliage, just nice looking trees. Really don't know what I can do to them that won't ruin them or what to say to the customer?
  11. Ok i'll take an old saw but try the hedge cutter and bush cutter first. thanks folks
  12. hey folks been asked to remove some pampas grass but they're too close to the footpath to just wrench out with a digger without destroying the path. Customer is happy to have them cut down to near ground level, I read up about using a chainsaw, anyone have any experience of this as all I have to compare it to is hitting palm froms with the strimmer which sucks. Will the pampas grass just choke the chain?
  13. T4 Doka Syncro:thumbup: i'm a t4 fan
  14. very sorry to hear this, my heart goes out to his family.
  15. thanks guys, will try the sandpaper trick on the Mitox saw horse but will drill the spare bar I have and bolt it to the Alaskan.
  16. hey folks I picked up one of those Mitox saw horses new in the box for £20, thought I might be able to use the bar clamp even if the rest of it is rubbish, problem is the clamp is no better than the one I made for the mill. Anything can be done to improve its grip on the bar? https://mitox.co.uk/index.php/products/chainsaws/mitox-saw-horse-complete-with-chainsaw-holder.html
  17. Hi Bill will send you the money for the Rancher tomorrow, are you sure you quoted enough? its a UK postcode but Northern Ireland so just check, don't want you diddling yourself.
  18. Thanks Bill, i'll certainly take the 50:thumbup:
  19. Hey Bill I have a 50 rancher that I put a new piston and barrel in but still won't run, also my trusty little 36 needs a new handle and a few other bits, if no takers I'll pay a courier to take them! let me know. thanks
  20. round here we say "better looking at it than for it!" but having downsized my own van last year its amazing the amount of crap you haul about "just in case". Less space makes you more organised and better at improvising.
  21. £250 a year. I spent two years searching for a yard at the right price with no luck then this one came up:thumbup:
  22. I rent a small shed on a disused farm, roughly 60ftx30ft for £250 a year. It has electric though I don't use it, and a tap outside. I'm allowed to use the yard as long as I don't block it up, and there are a couple of full size barns on site which I can get the use of if I want to pay extra. Its about 2 miles from my house out of the way which is what I want. It needs a bit of work but the fact the farm looks derelict keeps the thieves away. I mainly use it for storing logs and bulky stuff that's not worth stealing, being out of the way means I can go there on rainy days and process wood without annoying anyone. It will be interesting to see if the rent goes up next year!
  23. do you use a winch for getting the splitter off and on the trailer? I had to drag one up a set of ramps and it nearly ended me!
  24. I would like to see a government with the balls to make the tough decisions and fight the big fights instead of letting big corporations laugh at the taxman and make small businesses pick up the slack, tackle the benefits fraudsters instead of hitting workers for more money to pay for them, get British industry back up and running instead of subbing it out to other countries then wondering why skilled workers can't get decent relevant jobs, put victims rights before criminals, etc. etc. basically do what we voted you in to do, fix our bloody country! Technically that all comes under one wish:blushing:
  25. great saw, owned one and wished i'd never sold it. In good original running condition i'd say its worth £250. As a usable saw its worth a lot more but age is against it so best thing to do is keep it as a backup, that saw will outlast anything modern.
