Hello, I have had experience with this at a hotel near me in Annecy, France. The cutting isn't really critical but I recommend aerating the ground regularly to prevent compaction from foot fall and then feed and leave to recover. Mark, I shouldn't really comment as we escaped and live in the French Alps, I just don't like the way Clarkson is seen as good as he doesn't give a **** and supposedly represents the common man. you cannot hit people and laugh it off! -

Hi, It's a lilac (syringa vulgaris). It won't grow very large and can be pruned after flowering or in winter. Hope that helps, Chris
