  1. Crank bearing cage failed ? this is a fault i have seen many times , flywheel strikes coil , engine will feel ok turning by hand but the bearings all bunch up when running causing play in the crank and and flywheel will hit the coil
  2. You could stick a 20" bar on a 50cc and trim twigs all day long . chain speed in a log is what i need ,
  3. 15" bar on 550xp, saw is used for cutting , 15" is its limit even with a modified autotune
  4. I tend to use the brake if i am walking but i put it on at idle , seen too many young lads slam it on with revs , the day they need the brake might be the day it fails due to abuse .
  5. 1987 model Husky 254 purchased new 1988 , saw was used in the woods 1988/1989 and now has 25 years of firewood duty on it , the saw has never had the barrel off , new parts fitted are oil pump, clutch and a carb , i doubt if my 550xp will be around that long

    560XP Crank Bearings

Guess the have run out of copper hammers at the Husky factory ?

    560XP Crank Bearings

Bearings can only be fitted one way , extension on one side for the crank seal

    560XP Crank Bearings

Yes you can when you have a bearing with no cage ! bearings are all still intact minus the plastic cage ,

    560XP Crank Bearings

Just a strip of flattened plastic , no heat damage and still flex in the remains of the cage , old school operators chain break is not abused .

    560XP Crank Bearings

Always flywheel side i have seen fail , saw stops when the flywheel hits the coil most have scores on transfer ports and exhaust due to running lean , the operators i deal with dont wind the chain up solid which i find is the fashion with training these days , this may explain failed bearings on the clutch side ?

    560XP Crank Bearings

But the autotune will mask an air leak in the crank case ect ect , this is why most failed motors are scrap , on a carb saw you would pick up the change in the motor at the start of any problem , autotune adjusts the mixture until it can no more and the saw will run to destruction ,

    560XP Crank Bearings

Read that when it landed on my desk at work ! its 2014 models that i am seeing now with bearing failure

    560XP Crank Bearings

Have to agree with you about the training these days , so do you think there is a problem in the factory with the way they fit the bearings ?

    560XP Crank Bearings

Yes its the saws used in the woods that are suffering , cutters are finding it a bit galling as most ran 357 huskys and were used to getting a good year out of the saw before a rebuild

    560XP Crank Bearings

I was planning to run my next new saw on Aspen , all i do is my own firewood these days , mind you my 1987 254 still runs very well and does not want to retire just yet

    560XP Crank Bearings

2 of the saws have been run on xp oil by pro cutters with 40 plus years between them so i doubt they made a mistake mixing the fuel , one was run on god knows what oil !! but in saying that i know a guy with a 2012 560xp that runs his saw with pound shop oil and has filled the saw with fuel full of water several times , it still runs like a dream

    560XP Crank Bearings

A few of the boys i know are now using the 555 after having problems with the 560xp , so far they are happy with them

    560XP Crank Bearings

3 x 2014 560xp sitting here , one has a failed crank bearing 180 hours, barrel is scrap , second saw crank case is destroyed due to bolts coming loose, again barrel is scrap 162 hours , last one has 124 hours and has had piston damage and scrap barrel, ring retaining pin failed and crank bearings destroyed

    560XP Crank Bearings

I have a few to rebuild that have been scrapped , i was planning to build a stronger bottom end if possible , my last saw i used as a pro was a 254 in 1989 LOL

    560XP Crank Bearings

Not that cost effective if you have to do this every 180 hours or so ?

    560XP Crank Bearings

I have to fit Husky parts as all the saws have been warranty so far , i was just wondering if anyone had done there own saw that was out of warranty , average life span of a 560xp in the forest is about 6 months so i dont see any old ones !!
  22. njm

    560XP Crank Bearings

Nope they have a plastic cage
  23. njm

    560XP Crank Bearings

No not the clutch bearing , crankshaft bearing ,they use a plastic cage to support the bearings , i am starting to see these failing on saws with around 200 hours on them , one had 180 hours 12 week old saw
  24. Starting to get crank bearing failure on these saws , plastic cage giving up causing flywheel to jam on the coil , anyone tried a steel cage bearing in these saws ?
