  1. Anyone have any opinions on the petzl zigzag or the ART Lockjack? Anyone used both and have a preference? Need to get a load of new kit and am thinking of going mechanical. I normally climb on a Prussik/pulley or hitchclimber. Hitchclimbers probably my favourite so at the moment I'm steering towards the Lockjack. Any help making my mind up appreciated. Thanks, matthew
  2. Sorry to hear that pal, I feel your pain.. Happened to me on Saturday night. They cleaned me out too. Hope you get things sorted
  3. Cheers guys and that would be great mems1977. Just been to FR Jones to get reprints of everything I bought and it's around 5ks worth.. Gutted as I doubt I'll get it all replaced. I hope all my kit fails on the scum using it and that chains fly off the saws and take their face off
  4. Yeah def charge for it. If it takes, say, an hour round trip then add the cost of that hour into the total price. Otherwise you could have been doing another job in that hour earning money. Never sell time to customers though as you are then bound by it. Price to a timescale for what you want to earn, give a price then work as hard and fast as you can. You may find you can fit in another job.
  5. Police were only good for a crime reference for insurance purposes really. That and some sympathy!! I'm gonna have to turn my garage into Fort Knox. Sensor lights and an alarm I think. There gonna be the best deterrents as the old bill told me CCTV is not much use if they cover their face, license plate etc..
  6. It's devastating... All the little bits collected over the years.. Straps, pulleys, karabiners, friction hitches, spare parts, tools, files, silkys, spikes, flip lines, lanyards, you name it, all gone.
  7. On New Year's Eve my boss's yard was broken into.. Last night all of my personal equipment was stolen from my garage. Chainsaws, polesaw, ropes, blower, hedgecutter, harness.. EVERYTHING. Even my stinking climbing lid! I now have nothing and am unable to do any private work on which I rely to pay my way. Any info or ears to the ground in this area would be greatly appreciated
  8. In my experience the tpo on a dead tree for is defunct. Twice now my customers were granted permission to have it felled straight away as they posed a risk to the public. Also would say that it is the responsibility of the land owner not the one who rents it. Example, if you rented a house and the roof needed replacing, it wouldn't be down to the tenant to deal with it.
  9. Yale poison ivy!! Although it's got pink in it, from a distance all you'd see is the purple. It must have been that. Thanks!
  10. I saw a guy climbing on what looked like a purple rope. I can honestly say I'm only interested in it as it looked the nuts!! Any ideas? The closest one I can find is Marlow komodo.
  11. Had the water proof trousers... They were ok but didn't take long to fall apart. For waterproof/outdoor clothing stick with the people who know best IE. North face, Berghaus & Lowe Alpine
  12. Sheamus and Shaun were sitting looking at the view over the cliffs when paddy appeared. He was carrying a box and a shotgun heading for the edge of the cliff. Without skipping a beat he pulled a parrot from the box, threw it off the cliff and jumped off behind it. He turned mid-air and proceeded to blast the parrot with the shotgun. By this time Sheamus and Shaun were up and looking over the cliff to see paddy falling to his doom. They then rushed down the cliff to paddys aid... He was still alive! Although in a bad way. Sheamus and Shaun asked what he was playing at? Paddy turned his battered face to them and said "Boys, don't try that 'parrot shooting' it doesn't seem worth it"
  13. Yew is pretty heavy
  14. Jesus!! Also one way to put climbers out of business!!
  15. The link or pic is missing
  16. Oh ****!!! I'm dying over here you absolute joker!! Quality!
  17. Could be as simple as a sticky throttle cable? Or an idle adjustment is needed?
  18. Think the Scottish make wine with it
  19. Exposed cambium layer, moss, proximity to building, fungal infection, split union low down.. If it's an ash it could be Chalara (ash dieback). Don't know too much about this but hope some of these suggestions help
  20. Went and bought a zubat.. Real tasty bit of kit if you ask me
  21. A guy I used to work for at a gardening company used to do trees with no climbing line, just 2 lanyards with ART Climbing aids, and a pole saw!! Oh and spikes.. He would spike the **** out of a tree until he got to a good position then just take it apart with a pole saw! I'd never even heard of it being done like this, probably because of the irreparable damage done to the tree with the spikes and the danger of wielding a pole saw at full extension in a bloody tree!! The guy was strong and fit and never claimed to be a tree surgeon of any type, he just wanted to make sure the company (primarily gardening based) continued to make money. And this was his self taught way of doing it. Luckily he let me take over doing most of the trees, until I got a better job, but was just wondering if anyone else had seen this done or have any stories of reckless "tree surgery"!
  22. *know
  23. As they are not leather, do you of any type of protector I can get for the suede?
