  1. So by your own admission you'd be passing on bad habits. ...perhaps that's not a bad thing then.
  2. In another thread he said he'd be outside the FR Jones stand.
  3. Bear with me on this one. I know there have been other threads on these helmets and from what I see most people are saying they are not rated for chipper use. From what I remember anything over 85db can cause hearing loss. As chippers seem to chuck out noise levels in excess of 85db hearing protection is a must. One web site I came across is advertising the Protos as being SNR = 26db. That doesn't sound very much especially if my top handle (Stihl 201 chucks out 98db). So is it the length of time exposed to the sound that counts and if so is there anything out there in WWW land that states what it is?
  4. OK thanks will check
  5. My mate called me to say that but it was an iPhone 6 that had been handed in. My wife's was a 5.
  6. My wife lost her phone at the Arb Show today. Don't suppose anyone found it and handed it in?
  7. Surely this comment raises a whole different reason for C&G NPTC to provide a service to check the credentials of a potential employee. As others have said not having the certificates would make me suspicious but having fake certificates could lull you into a false sense of security. As an employer you have a duty of care to ALL your staff. If you unwittingly employ someone that is actually not competent to perform a task then you could be endangering the lives of your other employees. I'm guessing that such a scenario would also invalidate any insurance claim be it employers liability or public liability.
  8. Resurrecting an old thread because this topic came up the other day. Most people that pass their CS38 either never have to perform a rescue or never get to practice because of the time pressures of work. So how many people think there should be a compulsory refresher? How many even care. Once they have the piece of paper they've satisfied the requirements of their insurance company. If your new groundsman says he has CS38 do you run him through a rescue to make sure he can remember what to do? I'm curious to know how others feel on this.
  9. Anyone know where I can tip chip in the Reading / Bracknell area.
  10. Is there a thread on here or a data base of tip sites across the country? Seem to be lots of threads from people asking for places to tip. Would be a useful addition for people looking for places.
  11.

  12. How any hours are you doing a day and how many days a week? My Level 3 Diploma in Arb and Forestry course is a full year Monday to Friday, September through to June. In that time we have 36 written assignments to do as well as 500 hours of work experience and practical lessens. What is the awarding body for your diploma?
  13. I have a pair of the type C trousers and I would definaty recommend them.

  15. Dom whichever one you buy be careful when you handle it, they are very sharp!!
  16. Shane, why in particular have you highlighted school leavers? Most recent school leavers on my current Level 3 Arb course have no grasp of working/grafting for a living and at least 2 of them don't even want to do arb as a job after they finish their government imposed term of education. Wouldn't someone with some previous work experience be a better bet?
  17. ^^^ Yes thanks for that.
  18. Sorry to rake up an old thread but as a student buying PPE where do I stand? Are the rules still the same today? Some suppliers advertise boots as zero rated and others add the VAT. As I don't have an employer to buy them for me, nor am I in a position to claim back the VAT aren't the suppliers that include VAT in the price missing out? As an aside are boots the only zero rated item of PPE?
  19. I added a review for you.
  20. Nice footage.
  21. In response to the question I raised above thanks for the feed back. Fortunately I can already drive so I guess I have the first ticket on most peoples list.
  22. Thought I'd give this thread a quick bump as it's quite relevant to my current situation (and it's my first post so go easy on me). I've just started at college so I have no idea how to gauge whether what I am being taught is good, bad or indifferent. Can I therefore ask a general question which is this. If I study a Level 3 arb course for a year, full time (4 days a week plus 1 day to get work experience from the industry) what would be the minimum an employer would expect me to be able to and would you expect me to have my CS30, 31 etc. before the end of the year?
