  1. Bit like a roller breaking down, you might expect it from a run of the mill car but not one you paid 4 times the norm for. Some MOD mechanics did a torque to destruction test between snap on and britool. The clue to the winner is in the names.
  2. Shows the value of PPE.
  3. I think its called the internet / mail order. If you saw that in your local shop what would you tell them to do with it ? Some people would not bother to return it so worth a go on the suppliers part.
  4. Hi Simon I would just like to point out that a new pump will only produce about 7 gpm. Are you sure that is enough? Before you spend money I would advise you to check the splitter speed empty if you havn't done so already to make sure you are happy with it. Its speed empty will not change dramatically with a new pump. For your comparison Small Massey's little bit less flow but higher pressure IH 574 double your flow with a little more pressure Electric splitter half the flow double the pressure
  5. The problem with those DB pumps is the aluminium body and the phosphor bronze bushes wear. Seen loads all the same. Long time logo now but I think they used to go down to 1000psi.
  6. Remember that the batts will have a limit to the number of charges they will take. Not familiar with these but power tools normally are 500 or so.
  7. Hi Simon Did you buy the log splitter you were enquiring about? As I said on that thread DB hydraulics were not that good a long time ago. PTO driven pump would be better if it is not too late. To prepare you, most red DBs I came across had rubbish hydraulics ( possibly treequip used to send the wornout ones down to Cornwall) The other 20% had new pumps fitted which I expect is where you will end up. They are easy go work on but IMO even with a new pump you will be way behind where you could be.
  8. As treequip says 1700 is not so bad as some. Was that at tick over or with some revs. If fairly constant might be worth checking the relief valve. Presumably you have cleaned the pickup. Been out of that game for 20 years but I have a vague recollection of a split copper pipe on one tractor. With the lack of servicing sounds bad for the pump though.
  9. That's a clever trick. We do it the easy way. Scales that weigh 2000g in 2g increments. If you ever do this be carefull when you approach the fully dry state in the microwave. Little bursts, let the wood steam for a minute then repeat. Easy to end up with charcoal or a fire if too rash.
  10. MC 6012 £67 or so if still available We buy. Biomass chip and use it to measure MC. I have checked its accuracy many times .and I would recommend it.
  11. Maybe they pleaded not guilty /refused to pay the fixed penalty?
  12. Personally I see no difference between the two. What ever the legal situation I have seen too many near misses to undertake except in very slow moving congestion. My policy is have a little patience and wait for a gap to overtake on the right. I have seen many cars inconsiderately hogging the middle lane and holding up traffic suddenly decide to pull to the left when they are being or about to be undertaken. Undertaking is a dangerous game that other drivers do not expect, do not like and sometimes react stupidly to. Why buy PPE, work sensibly and carefully then kill yourself and others for a sake of a few seconds of travel time.
  13. My Mr Muppet was catching me fast in the inside lane. I was probably doing a little over 70 in the inside lane and as there was a slow car ahead I pulled into the middle lane to overtake. Mr m carried on up my inside then realised a slow car was blocking his path. Meanwhile the traffic in the middle lane slowed so the safe gap I had left closed up. Mr m then had a choice of either attempting to slow to 50, hit the slow car or wedge himself in the decreasing gap in the middle lane. He was lucky that my brakes and the cars brakes behind me were top notch. Would you say inconsiderate ?
  14. Just remember when you drink your tea keep your teeth together
  15. We bough one from Axminster tools about 7 years ago. Still works fine. I checked with microwave and scales and up to 30 % MC just about spot on , 30 to 50% it starts to read up to 5% low. Lot more than £15 though. Comes in a blue lined and padded box. If you need a name I can check tomorrow.
  16. I agree our speed limit should be the same as the French 130
  17. Bet you never got away without some paperwork on that one.
  18. A long time ago (1980)while travelling along the Canboure bypass I was pulled by the police for speeding. Apparently they clocked me (over 1/2 mile I think ) and I averaged 88mph. One then proceeded with the normal tyre kicking and the other asked me to try the indicators etc. I was thinking fines endorsements etc by then. When I turned the ignition on the radio was turned well up to compensate for the somewhat swift progress I had been making. At least the radio works said the deafened one who had his head in my window. Anyway no faults were found and the deaf one said "I expect you have a driving licence don't you,so on your way but try and keep a little closer to the limit when you at down this way again." Over the years I have remembered that and indeed kept closer to 70 along there. Never worked out where he was though. Anyone had a similar experience or can beat 88.
  19. Thanks eggs In that case I think you will struggle to get anywhere near 2% so premium bonds become an interesting choice. If you fancy a gamble there are many varied stock market linked accounts. Interest varies with risk so you can pick to suit your situation. Your bank should be able to advise.
  20. Our old DB hydraulics weren't that good 25 years ago so I would test yours before committing yourself.
  21. Yes I must learn how to do that sometime, sorry. Computer illiterate only on this sofa. Consulting with the boss she says its the 123 current account. You can have up to £20k in that one. You need money in and a couple of dds out I believe, pays 3% I am told. Lloyds is £5 k but 4%. Similar conditions. TSB £2k but 5 % None pay any interest over their limits. Hope that helps.
  22. Portek heads are finished with an aluminium dome at the bottom which seems good. I will try some 4mm diamond edge in mine. Thanks Stubby. Happy strimming.
  23. 1.26% is the posted return. Fun when the cheques come but we never had anything over £100 Santandare and loyds do better on their current accounts. Was that Mitsubishi an evo by any chance. That would be much more fun.
  24. That makes sense. You have convinced me that it is certainly worth a go at the very least. Could you tell me what line you use/recommend please. I will soon be out of precut 4.4x 300mm so I will be looking for some on a roll to replace it.
  25. I guess it again depends on what you are cutting and what machine. Fs 94 on grass and light stuff then 2 lines are probably perfect. I would have thought bigger machines might be better with more lines to spread the load. I expect 2.2 kw would rip two 4mm lines apart in a very short time when strimming blackthorn.
