  1. It was for gate posts and a coffee table which is now cut in rough.
  2. We trimmed the oak down to 42 inch wide.and vertical down 71/2 inches first and then milled them off at 8 inch.then parted them. Only for 8 by 8 gate posts.
  3. Thanks rover that sort of fits the bill it's a fifty inch bar that would explain it.I will look at it next time, happen a new additional oiler.
  4. No I have a granburge sharpener for the mill.
  5. It's an oregan milling chain and these are beams wedged at the ends of each one as we where cutting them off .
  6. This is the last few feet of a milling cut the first six ft is fine gradually getting to this any tips on improving the cut, apart from sharpening the chain which I think is one of the causes?
  7. Kevin I milled it with saw on the out side of the tree with a 42 bar , milled up to the bend in the log and then pulled the tail end to the cut side then cut the bend.
  8. I milled it a couple of months back and was told it is larch by the tree surgeon. It's milled at two inch thick and fourteen wide.milled with xp 3120 and 42 bar.
  9. Hopefully mark a set of legs for a table.
  10. Want to learn something lads what gives the white rot away looking at it ?
  11. I have 5 planes in the workshop was really into it until my marriage break up a few years back.
  12. My baby wish I had time and money to finish her.
  13. Was a bit unsure when the timber was quite light compared to the other tree.Cut the tree up two size, but the upper limbs all at about 2 foot dia, where rotten.Trimed the main butt to 42 inches across. So I am left with a 8ft by 31/2 butt.
  14. It just seems light for a oak in weight.
  15. I think a proper log store is the answer so air can freely flow around the logs.but will be interested what others say
  16. Don't no what is happening yet Wether they are to be sold or used on the farm where they cut,in Telford. As the weight and length was under estimated by me I would think they are plus 400kg each.
  17. I would like to thank everyone who contributed two this post.Carl
  18. This oak was milled more for my education than anything as I had not milled any oak before.and was lucky enough to to get to mill such a nice piece. It made six beams all 18 ft plus and several small ones. One thing I really did need a spare sharp new 5 foot chain it would of made the job so much easier.First time I had used the vertical mill and found that nice to use a part from the snowstorm of wood chip.
  19. The is 8 inch by 8 inches by 20ft.
  20. Try Rob at http://www.chainsawbar.co.uk he will sort it.
  21. I would mill it into two and a half inch thick boards. This would give the person who works with it enough timber to produce a two inch finished board and if need legs at two inch plus finish. Paint ends off log before milling and seasoning.
  22. I use a 3120 with 50 inch cannon bar,not had any problems with it. Milled some beech recently, the boards where smooth nice finish. But it is a tad on the slow side in the cut.
