  1. 20% but depending on its necessity the rate can vary
  2. I just find it a giggle as VAT was brought in to make extra revenue on luxury goods or non essential items as they like to call it. I wouldn't say our safety equipment is bought to pretty ourselves it's essential equipment
  3. then again you could nip the main artery in the thigh and bleed to death in minutes. Thankfully you won't cost the NHS diddly squirt just cold slab and lodgings til box is ready
  4. Mind don't use a tampon as a prussic they ain't VAT exempt
  5. That's right . It's not a luxury it's essential . So to beat the VAT man we should go to work wearing just helmet and safety boots and nothing else and using condoms to climb the tree !!
  6. Yep that's my thought we have to wear PPE. So it's safety equipment. Climbing equipment is also safety equipment so that has to count . Most of us won't be VAT registered so we haven't got the luxury of claiming it back
  7. i just read this earlier regarding safety helmets and boots Do I pay VAT on safety footwear? According to HM Revenue and Customs [HMRC Reference:Notice 701/23 (March 2002)] boots and helmets are zero-rated when ALL the following conditions are met: The articles must be boots or helmets They must be manufactured to the appropriate European or British standard They must bear a mark indicating conformity with those standards They must for industrial use They must not be supplied to persons for use by their employees See http://customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsPortalWebAp p/channelsPortalWebApp.portal?_nfpb=true&_page Label=pageLibrary_PublicNoticesAndInfoSheets&p ropertyType=document&columns=1&id=HMCE_CL_0001 07#P40_2580 for more information So as 90% of our equipment we use or wear is safety equipment then we shouldn't have to pay VAT on our equipment
  8. You a fellow sufferer then Jon . If the APF show had took club card points I would of cleared the show on Thursday !!
  9. I hope not . They're club card points buy my plane tickets every year, which is a very decent thing to do after my dear wife has filled up a 7.5 tonner with useless sh** every week, then sends me back to buy the essentials such as food !!!
  10. Thanks Wayne I be up for April. If you get the marlow before I bugger off for me hols can you let me know as I wouldn't mind a try . Ideally I would get the queen to treat me before my 38 and 39.

  14. Any chance of putting metal shutters on with electric motor. You can then pin into ground trough the bottom lip of the shutter. Also have the pins that you put thru the sides of shutter to stop them separating it from the side. Nothing can ever stop the little b******s but if you can slow them down it helps
  15. This thread is a sore subject . As my new 550 came as a result of lending a mate my 350. He happily sent it back to me knowing that he blew it to pieces and kept his mouth shut. I prefer to supply my own tools rather than use the gaffers because I would hate to break someone elses equipment. Shame others don't have the same view

  21. I'm a total novice to climbing. I hope this helps. 3 months ago I was terrified of heights so kill or cure has always been my motto so I took up tree climbing and now am happy as pig in sh!!. I doing my 38 and 39 in November. I bought zig zag and after reading all the bad press it's sits happily in my bag. I bought the hitch climber set up and it works a treat. My confidence is sky high (pardon the pun!). I can swing like a monkey, answer the phone and enjoy a well earned cig all at the same time. Hopefully it will help your confidence. Good luck
