  1. I too have mixed feelings about land rovers. I learned to drive on Army rovers, bought three old mark 2A diesel for deer management on Lulworth ranges and only managed to keep them on the road by nicking fuel from the Army. The worst one I bought was one of the 2.5 six cylinder petrol .A bleeding nightmare. I once had to be towed home by a Morris Marina when a drive shaft went. Very embarrassing to say the least. That said, I will be sorry to see them go. Iconic British vehicle for all it's faults. ?
  2. Go for it Jon! You are Mr Arbtalk. Sod the piss takers and crack on doing your own unique blogs. For some strange reason they are the first things I look for on Arbtalk. Well done for keeping me amused.
  3. Everyday. We are still playing the Xmas day game aren't we?
  4. They are crap Jon. Happy New Year to you, I see you are coming over to France next year, maybe have a wet together.
  5. My wife took a trip to London last Xmas, bought a bracelet from H Samuel in Oxford Street. Within a short time it snapped. She contacted them by email and phone, promises were made but no resulting refund happened. To cut to the chase she posted the tale on Facebook and Twitter saying that she would never buy from them again. Within days she got the refund. They don't like negative publicity. Try that route.
  6. That was you was it? I wondered what happened to you. Did I pay you or run away, I usually do.
  7. When I had to leave my Army guard dog behind in Ireland after 2 and a half years it broke my heart. I cried like a big girl. These animals will literally die for their handler. Hearts as big as hell. I still think of that dog after all this time.
  8. I have a lot of time for Andrew Neil, he takes no prisoners during interviews, he's like a big Scottish pitbull. I fear that he may have set himself up for retribution from the aforementioned scum, though.
  9. Thanks Richie. I had a phone call from my cousin in Yeovil today. Her grandson's friend was at the concert with his dad who was working as a sound engineer at the show. He invited his son to go with him thinking it would be great experience. Wonder what he thinks now, poor sod. This will live with them both forever. Luckily they are back home safely. Luckier than the poor devils who won't be going home again. RIP.
  10. Good call Jon to lighten the weekend, well done mate. Roast chicken, swede (or turnip as my Jock wife insists on calling it) cabbage, roast potatoes done in duck fat and onion gravy. Chicken sandwiches for tea. Couple of pints of Brittany cider whilst I watch the Jungle tonight.
  11. Well said Jon. Everyone should be alert in these troubled times. Look out for one another.
  12. On it's way home or going into battle, we were at WAR, it wasn't a rugby match where fair play is all. It was a heavily armed warship, the clue is in the name, it wasn't a hospital ship. it would have been fully capable of turning around and coming back and engaging our forces. Christ on a cycle what planet are you on?
  13. Excellently put Kevin. I'm sure that there must be one or two Falkland veterans who read this forum. I wonder what they think?
  14. Pete, you have hit the nail on the head as far as I am concerned. S.F. is the way to go, you cannot negotiate with ISIS, just as you can't with rabid dogs. You put them down. How can you beat terrorists who don't give fat rat's arse if they die or not, you can't. I see on this morning's news that some of the suspects were thought to have entered by posing as refugees via Greece. No doubt someone on here will correct me or accuse me of scaremongering. By the by, yesterday my wife packed a load of clothes in bags for these self same refugees to give in to a local pick up point.
  15. Thanks Eggs, I assume the 1% is ref Maggie! I'm off to get pleasantly pissed now at my French neighbour's where we will no doubt have discussions which will annoy some of the Herberts on here.
  16. You sound to me to be a bit of a clever bugger, try living in the real world not some airy fairy fantasy land.
  17. Thanks Ed. I can feel the steam coming out of my ears, I have to think what I am writing before I put it into words otherwise I would probably be asked to leave the site for a while.
  18. It's not a "right wing rant fest", it's what I consider a natural response to a massacre of innocents by people who are worried and feel it's time to take some positive action. If a bunch of thugs took action against your family would you sit back and turn the other cheek. I bleeding wouldn't and I suspect a lot of blokes on here wouldn't either. You can talk about respecting the thread, what do you think we are doing? Listen pal, I live in France and have seen the heartache felt here this morning so don't lecture us who think differently to you.
  19. Well said Stubby!!! Vespasian, I suggest that if you know any Falklands veterans you put that theory to them; I will pay your dental costs if you video the encounter and send it to me.
  20. This has been the most thought out reply yet, well said Old Mill Tree Care. Politicians cock it all up and haven't the balls to say what they really mean. Too frightened to alienate the Chattering Classes and the Human Rights mob. Shame Maggie isn't here now, whether or not you liked her and her policies, she would have got the job done.
  21. You know the French Mick, they will not mess about with kid gloves. I have just been on the phone to our daughter at Limoges, luckily she is switched on being an Army child, to be constantly aware. Things can only get worse rather than better. Vive La France.
  22. Went to the ceremony at our village war memorial, the names of the fallen from WW1 to the present time were read out, then the children laid wreaths and sung La Marseilles, flags lowered and then raised, very moving. Have now just come back from a meal with the old comrades, full of wine and cognac after feeding very well. Time for a little kip I think.
  23. We watched the Royal British Commemoration last night on BBC 1 as always. I end up every year with tears on my face remembering all the fallen. Makes you think how lucky we all are. You can tell the generational gap with service personnel by the number of medals. My generation usually have the Northern Ireland, Falklands and maybe UN medal for Cyprus. Look at the lads, and lets not forget the girls, who serve and have served recently, a mass of medals on their chests compared to when I was in. Then again think about all the poor sods living rough on the streets, who just can't cope through one reason or another. Breaks your heart. Never forget.
  24. Jon, in Somerset it's roughly translated as "F... off mush". I think I have that right.
