  1. That's why if folk charged a proper rate this industry would be in the state its in, some people will work for such low rates it's unbelievable. I don't worry about them anymore I just sit back and laugh and sip Champaign in the Alps, ho, ho, ho .
  2. Good luck with that. I bet your flat out at that price, put yer price up and see how you go.
  3. Coz there ace, I love my HB20 sooooo much!! Best small grinder by far!
  4. Heavy duty suspension and mud terrains.
  5. Well for all the crap we have to put up with then we want at least 25k
  6. Work out your running costs and add your wages and that's how much to charge.
  7. Err I'm agreeing with you Ian, I'm vat reg now.
  8. Get a good accountant, I have one, he costs me £65 per month and I won't go into the money he has saved me in the last 14 years. My advice to anyone is to know your costs and go from there.
  9. But that's what you do, I'm in business for me so I charge what I need to and so do other people. I don't understand these threads where people want to know how much others would charge when there are so many variables. At £200 a day for a man and machine it's not a decent wage after tax etc.
  10. ......and your point is?
  11. That's not entirely true, you may not have the crew to bosh a job as quick as the VAT reg company you priced against, you put a day on the job they may do it in half a day so they can be cheaper, of course this can work both ways. I have always been against going VAT reg but I now have no choice, looking at my overheads and what I can claim back I won't have to pass 20% onto my customers anyway.
  12. I have had 2 lads on work experience from an Arb course, they were second year students and although nice lads were useless. They had no work ethic, they couldn't use a chainsaw with any confidence as they had had a few hours training in the woods and that was it, they kept getting promised more time in the saw but we're spending more time in the class room learning things that in the real world will be less use than practical skills. People ask to give young lads a chance but why would I when they need to ask mummy if they can come to work!! On the other side of this I have a 16 lad who has not been to school since he was 13, he can't read and is one of the hardest working lads I know, show him once and he can do it.
  13. Yes I sort of agree but a freelance climber brings experience and some kit, he has no need for insurance as that's on mine, he hasn't been to price/ sort job or got to wait weeks to be paid. If the chipper/ splitter breaks it's on me not them.
  14. That looks fantastic!
  15. So my overheads and insurance etc are cheaper because I'm using a log splitter are they? My outgoings don't alter just because I take a smaller machine, well apart from the fuel. They can take it or leave it, I ain't a mug, after 13 years in this game you learn a lot and one thing is don't be too cheap!
  16. £260-300 plus VAT
  17. They need to get there fingers out and get the VTR version out as I'm gagging for one:)
  18. It's just a standard TD5 mate.
  19. I recon it would fit, looks ok. Maybe Timberwolf will make one for the 230 VTR when It comes out, can't wait:)
  20. 4x4 play I meant:)
  21. Pics please, would it fit a 150 VTR?
  22. Did u get your truck off 4x5 play?
  23. I used to think that but when you have built a good business and you hit 81k turnover you have no choice.
