  1. Have you tried the Alpha Eddie? I was thinking the whole point was to put to bed any shortcomings of the standard offering. I had a good sniff around different makes and models at Euro Auctions. The one machine that did impress was a Takeuchi 295w: that was an incredibly smooth operator!
  2. This photo was taken at Euro auctions yesterday; the machine is a 2014 model: The Question I'd have to ask myself is- if I spent £50k (or whatever) on a new machine, would I be happy for it to look like this after less than four years? I'm afraid that whilst ever JCB think this is acceptable, its highly unlikely that they'll be seeing any of my cash. Sadly, this machine was part of a JCB line up, all showing similar issues.
  3. Are JCB making any effort to sort the poor paint issue? It’s not an issue limited to JCB of course, but theirs is particularly poor, and let’s there new machines down badly.
  4. Articulated or front steer- What are people’s preferences for alpines. Which is the most manoeuvrable? Im looking at reverse steer, and would be mostly grass cutting/ flailing. How is the Antonio Carraro regarded?
  5. The other saw doesn't have it, but is slightly different in other respects i.e the Dolmar logo is cast as part of the case on one, but applied on the other.
  6. Just wanted to add a couple of pics of the non-runner. Unfortunately the clutch drum/ sprocket is missing (as well as the exhaust). There is also some chipping of the edge of the chain cover, and the patch near the plug looks non-standard. Asking price is £100 for the two plus postage at cost. We are East Yorks. HuntingHicap has first dibs. P.S. Ive weighed one of these things and its just shy of 12.5kg, so not a saw for girls
  7. Ive had these sat doing nothing for many years, and just wondered if anyone on here was interested in them, before I put them on ebay . One was running fine when last used; the other is a non runner, and I was told it needed a new ignition coil, but I have never looked into it.
  8. Looks confused: the old layout was easy and intuitive. Why oh why must stuff be changed?
  9. Look happy enough: almost symbiotic:001_smile:.
  10. I was putting a farm drain in the other day and found a lump right bang in the way, so I cut it out with the chainsaw and after pressure washing, I ripped it lengthways into quarters ( free-hand ): it cut like butter! I've dropped it into a water tank, and will take it out later on in the year when the weather has cooled down. I was thinking it might be an idea to put it in a cool shed and cover it in wet peat to slow down the drying process. Like others have said, it's no good left in the round, and can easily be lost.
  11. I must say, I quite fancied that myself. Best of luck, but I'm sure you won't need it: a real quality piece of kit:thumbup1:. I look forward to a report when she's up and running.
  12. Was this the machine off eBay? Sorry, just being nosey:001_smile:.
  13. Just chop the thing off at ground level and save yourself a lot of work. Hedge laying isn't necessary to produce a good hedge. Don't get me wrong, i love to see it, and appreciate the craftsmanship, but unless you particularly want to have a go...... . And as has been said, if you cut at 4ft, the hedge won't fill in at the base. Chop it at ground level and you get lots of fresh new growth where it's needed.
  14. I'd definitely use small container grown plants: established woodland can be a harsh environment.
  15. Were they bare root, or pot grown? You could try smaller ( pot grown ) plants. I've always found Laural to be reliable.
  16. Sounds sense I guess, I'll have a poke about and see if I can improve things. Not sure if it's still under guarantee; I bought it mail order, so it would involve a bit of hassle no doubt, if I wanted to Send it off. Thanks
  17. What's wrong with the thing? It doesn't like being pointed skywards, and revs die ( not good for a pole saw ); also generally lacking in power. It's a relatively new machine, and done very little work. Thanks
  18. The pic isn't very helpful, but they look like well established young plants, though odd plants have turned brown. I've asked the question re the position and possible water shortage, but in my experience, once established, Thornes don't die back like this.
  19. https://thefarmingforum.co.uk/index.php?threads/whats-killing-my-hedge.135896/ Any suggestions for this chap?
  20. Yes, I've just tried to PM you but you're in box is full:001_smile:
  21. £25! I might join him:biggrin:. Thanks
