Regarding left or right...If I used a foot ascender with DRT is there a system. I mean if I pull down (body thrust) with two hands and push hitch up with left hand which foot would I want my ascender on or doesn't it matter..?
  3. I've decided to buy a Hitch climber set up but should I get 8mm or 10mm friction cord to use with my 13mm rope. At the moment I use a 13mm split tail and Blakes, but if I use a second 13mm rope I 've got a 9mm prussic loop. Both grip well but having never used eye to eye friction hitches like VT or Distel ? I'm not sure which would be best. Please advise on pros and cons Thanks
  4. Woman on the camera sounds such a caring type !!
  5. Its only since I started reading on here that I discovered (but not tried) the recent trend for SRTWP. I can see the advantages, but having to recently spend ages putting together in depth RAMS for one of our subcontractors to work on a large construction firm site for which I utilised reference to the Arb Association's Guide to good climbing practice, it occurs to me that it may not be strictly legal, i.e. should there always be a safety back up rope in place.. I would be interested in how people have got around this. There's an overlap with Rope Access techniques I think which needs to be clarified. Possibly been covered before...if so apologies etc.
  6. Like the title says,, been looking at changing my lanyard. At mo got a Dragon lanyard which came with mechanical rope grab. Its Ok spiking up a straight stem like conifer or Lombardy poplar and is Ok for holding you in a position, but I've been looking at CE lanyard and also custom set ups on here and want something more flexible. I bought 15 metres of Yale XTC to use as second line with a prussic and put a figure of eight on a bight as a termination but this is bulky and what with 2 lines, split tail micro pully and the metal rope grab on the lanyard Im starting to feel over equipped when climbing round more awkward trees. CE Lanyard is dear and use as second line seems to have been questioned, i.e. SRT on just hitch..? Wondered if I can buy 5mts rope spliced at each end to get me started. P.S. If I change do you think I could sell Dragon if I got it LOLERED It costs about £65 new and its not been used that much
  7. I think Paulownia.. the pic shows a snapped branch as if hard pruned.
  8. I'll have to change my name....good to hear I'm not the only nutter in my fifties who wants to climb and cut trees.
  9. I've got a basic bag with 50mts of Marlow 2mm line. This is as good as I will need when throwing from the ground. However after struggling a bit recently to advance climbing line up through canopy as I'm climbing and getting the normal throw bag/kit tangled while I dangled I've improvised a bit and made this. Its about 10 metres of cheap nylon rope about 5mm diameter in a small cotton bag with a fishing weight 4 oz attached. The spherical weight is about 2cm across. Weighs next to nothing and can be carried with me. I think it will be a lot easier to make short advances to narrow crotches or to place a pull line higher. I realise lead shot has a slight safety issue but I wanted enough weight with a smaller size to reduce snagging etc. Will try not to brain myself.
  10. Our local depot is very good. They do make charge for general wear but always very helpful if they can be. As for the new tracked Carlton stump grinder I find its top heavy compared to the old one and wants to do somersaults on uneven ground. There aren't that many places where you can hire anyway so best not to upset them lol
  11. Thanks Mate...body and ego now self repaired. Ready for the next one and a world wiser.
  12. Have to say bought most of my kit from them. One time a saw blade was missing from the order. One phone call and it was in the post immediately no questions. Really prompt reliable delivery. Also seem to be good on price.
  13. Agree but bear in mind that both tordon and garlon will not touch grasses unless you overdose so your drive could end up a lawn. I thought Rosate was just a cheap glyphosate product with no residual effect. Chikara is supposed to be good for non crop areas
  14. can I upload more than one at a time..?
  15. Finally got a weekend free to do the re pollards...well managed one. Have to say it killed me as a lot of hand saw work and pulling branches through to cast in the clients garden and not next door. Also no spikes used. One little mishap due to slight loss of concentration...butt fell on glass roof of veranda directly below so looking for cheap piece of Georgian wire cast glass. Couple of times I nearly gave up and sent for a proper tree surgeon, but glad I completed. Great experience even if it teaches you your limitations.
  16. Wondered if there's a device/scanner to find out if you've had one placed on your vehicle
  17. Is there a method of assessing what is the biggest bar a saw can use other than manufacturers recommendations or is it just trial and error. My saw has 16 inch and MR say can go up to 18 inch, but on net I have seen people with 20 inch bars working fine. Is the drive sprocket/ engine capacity the key.
  18. Sure it's not Lonicera pileata... that probably rejuvenates more than Nitida
  19. Dig it out but bits of root may regrow. Allow to treat regrowth with Timbrel/Garlon
  20. If your ring spraying transplants then obviously you've got to cover something like a day or half day rate for small quantities, but for larger amounts rates of 3p a ring are the norm. It makes a huge difference on what nozzle you use. We used to use an orange nozzle with a strong mix and cover up to 1500 transplants on one tank. Useful if your spraying along new road developments for example, where you don't want to be walking back through completed work to refill etc, etc. Also use marker dye so you don,t miss too much if they,re not in lines and helps to keep away from non target plants. Don,t skimp on chemical as it,s always more expensive to do it all again.
  21. Just get the basic labourer/operative to start. This along with relevant NPTC will let you work on construction sites. All building sites want CSCS and as long as they see a card they will let you on. Not all Site agents understand NPTC and usually rely on RAMS stating that all operatives are trained and qualified
  22. Thanks very much.....very helpfull
