  1. That's some good going It's actually decent value for money considering how long you'll get out of it and the replacememt parts are reasonably cheap
  2. It'll last a very long time, you can replace all the bits that wear out.
  3. I pay £9 per month for spotifi on top of my iPhone 6 bill I'm guessing paul is in the middle of our phone bill scale
  4. No offence but a level 6 qualification is useless to the Arb industry. If you get s job that needs a level 6 qualification you need the option to work towards it. Also if a level 6 Arb qualification means you'll end up in court giving expert opinions I'd rather keep my level 3 qualification and stay at home drinking tea
  5. Yes and a ND should be good enough for that situation
  6. I see your point but will a level 6 qualification actually help you in court??? How many arborist a year go to court because of advice that they've gave? Surely that's why you get public indemnity insurance. A national diploma is the equivalent to A levels that would keep you in good stead incase you go to court. That money would be better invested in other things
  7. Getting a desk job in higher management appears to be everybody's get of climbing plan. In my honest opinion keep that money you'll spend on a level 6 qualification and put it into a retirement fund it'll be more use. These jobs are few and far between.
  8. I agree. By the time you spend cutting little bits up specially conifer it's just not worth the time

    Safety tip #126

I'll say it again but if you do a proper risk assessment and it's been noted down pointing out access and egress grid reference etc you won't need to rely on emergence services using your phone signal to find you. It's all well and good them finding your location but if they can't find the best way in to your site then it's time wasted which could make all the difference between life and death

    Safety tip #126

All those details should be your risk assessment
  11. You'd be better off being employed. Don't mean to offend
  12. That doesn't really make sense when you're quoting my comment. My argument is a good groundsman is worth as much as a good climber Without quoting my comment I get what you're saying
  13. I bet the cannon bar cost nearly as much as the saw
  14. obviously! I wasn't specific enough I should of said an experienced groundsman is worth more than a slightly experienced climber.
  15. Is that kind of service equivalent to a climbers wage I'd say yes. Just because you can climb doesn't make you worth more money than a groundsman that's only 1/3 of the service you offer to the customer. Also a slight rant I hate people that only 'climb' once you've finished climbing chip up rake up lift logs and go home. These people usually have harnesses full or strops, crabs and useless gear hanging off the harness. Feel a bit better now
  16. A groundsmans job is belittled a bit in my view if you've got a great groundsman on the deck he'll run show wether you're the best climber in the world or not it's up to him on the deck what you can and can't do. It's a very underrated job which needs more recognition in my opinion. I've been doing this 10 years and I've only occasionally come across a sole groundsman all the lads I've worked with have been climbers. Most of the time if we had a big fell to do we'd swap jobs after dinner. Maybe us northerners do it a little different At the end of the day you're just a puppet up the tree and the groundsman will control everything he needs to be an arborist so you can get the best results in the safest manner
  17. With all these figures being thrown about being a groundsman is quite appealing

    New saw and dealers

Sounds good, I've dealt with all the husky dealers even lloyds. After buying my 540 from carrs of billington I don't fancy going back there. Like I said I've been quoted around the £830 Region the highest was David dixons @ £890. After getting these quotes you obviously check the web for prices I'll see if they'll price match the Internet
