  1. Very kind offer eddy. Pm sent
  2. Put a picture on. I have an elwell I bought for seven pounds about 10 years ago
  3. I thought there was something fishy bout it, the description seemed odd
  4. Oh. Forgot to say I have a thread going to show the work I'm doing to it. I hope you do the same with yours, I find them interesting
  5. Hi div, I've just bought this old stihl Got it for £8 on the bay Thought it would be completely knackered but a bit of fiddling and I've got it running. Few more bits to get it going properly but was better than I thought. I found this that might suit you today on eBay, plus the one above is what it could look like I'm watching it but too far for me to go it's near Lincoln
  6. To the bear hotel in Hungerford , 5 mins tops
  7. Took the top off the carb an cleaned the tiny filter It was full of fine dust. Also took handle off and gave it a bit more of a clean
  8. Had another fiddle with it tonight, managed to push in the decomp button and it works in and out. How can you tell if they leak? Are they easy to blank off?
  9. Can't seem to push the decomp valve in. Got the plug out My fault I broke it but found another, so checked for a spark, it's got one. Replaced the plug, little bit of aspen into the carb pulled it over an I'm sure it fired but couldn't fire it again. Went back to it this morning put some fuel in the tank gave it a few pulls it coughed, few more, big cloud of smoke and it fired up! Revved up ok but I think it should have been harder to pull over is this a lack of compression? Is it worth getting it tested?
  10. I'm pretty sure it's closer to an 050 so if it is it's 90cc and 52mm bore, the 075 is bigger.
  11. Thanks, I do need a clutch cover, and dogs, air filter base and top the list goes on. I've got a mate with a few old stihls so I'll ask him first but I may need to come back to you
  12. i I made these. I'm going to give up trees an go baking instead! Oh, an I'm going to try to get this to run too:)
  13. So, it seems to have good compression, I think. So now to check for a spark
  14. I stripped the starter mechanism as it was a bit sticky and dry and put it back together but it still didn't work so after some questions on spuds bench thread and a you tube vid, I took the bit in the second pic apart and turned the dogs round. One end of each dog was rounded and burred. One looked new put it all back together and it now catches on the cup, Yes it's worn out but should last a bit
  15. Starter and fuel tank fresh out the dish washer nice n clean! Filter cleaned up ok but gonna fit a new one fuel line rubber is a bit stiff but can't see any holes, is it worth replacing anyway?
  16. As I learned from eddyT, this is a Fairbanks starter and it's worn out which is why I haven't been able to turn the engine yet. Googled Fairbanks starter and would you believe it there's a YouTube vid to show cleaning and maintaining one.
  17. Think I saw a pic of that, it was a joke I think? TBF this might not be much better. As my old man would tell you I'm good at taking things apart but not good at putting them back together !
  18. Decompression button? It turns rather than pushes in
  19. Got the disc cutter bit off Has a drive sprocket on it already
  20. I'm going to start a thread about this stihl ts50 disc cutter I bought on eBay. I'm going to try to get it running, put a bar on it and cut some wood! And if I get really keen then I may try repainting it and restoring it properly. Going to keep a note of everything I spend on it too How it came £7.16
  21. Turned the dogs/ pawls round as they were worn on one side, put it back together and now they catch on the cup! It turns over, seems like plenty of compression I don't think it'll last long till they start slipping again tho. Managed to find a YouTube vid about a Fairbanks starter so cleaned it all and turned them round as suggested. Yes I bought this saw as a project to do in the evenings and I realise I may have to spend quite a bit of money on it but it'll keep me out of mischief and hopefully I'll end up with a working saw. I'm going to start a thread about it cos I want to keep all the pics and info in one place

    waders

I hate wearing waders and would rather go in the water with an old pair of boots and trousers and just get wet. Bit cold this time of year tho.
  23. I now know what a Fairbanks starter is. Just watched a you tub vid on how to fix 'em. Tomorrow going to clean all the wd40 of all parts and sharpen the dogs. Fingers crossed that works. Thanks for your help tonight Eddie, probly have more questions tomorow
  24. I've cleaned and rebuilt the starter mechanism but when I pull it over it just slips and won't turn the saw over, Is the cup worn out or the dogs?
  25. Hi Eddie, I see what you mean about the orange filter base. I think it's a ts 50 not a ts510 by looking at pics on internet and the exhaust is exposed on a ts 50 and covered on a ts 510 But I may be wrong and if I am correct me Thanks will
