  1. Yes can confirm 35 mpg delivering logs round pembrokeshire 40 on a long run but low 20s pulling a trailer loaded. Had mine 5 years now over 200.000 miles and still going well. 53 plate Navara king cab. All depends on how heavy your right foot is! Cheers Chris.
  2. Hi a rough guide 1 cubic metre of loose logs equals 0.7 metre stacked so to replace your 1.5 metre stacked logs order 2 metres of loose logs. Weighing is a no brainer every load would need a public weighbridge ticket and these are few and far between also about £10 plus vat a go. Hope this is of some help. Cheers Chris.
  3. Love my 395xp loads of guts and lovely to use Use it mainly to cross cut big hardwoods for the spliter also some big spruce, races through that A friend has a 390 but always seems to want to borrow mine rekons loads more power
  4. Hi fuelwood splitta 360 does kindling and logs with 1 easy adjustment.
  5. Hi just read most of the answers,it seems to be personal preferance as to a chinsaw type or circular saw blade. I have looked at the posch 350 and 360 they look good and seem popular but I run a 2008 palax 100s and cannot be convinced to change.I process about 1500 cubic metres a year and have the blade professionally sharpened once a year the belts are self tensioning and last several seasons, only on second set! It weighs 2 tonnes so you do not move it much there are no bends or cracks and it is very easy to use and Caledonian forestry are good people to deal with. Well worth a look at at the APF.

  7. Hi don t know much about the posch but probably well made does it only do kindling? I went for fuelwood splitta does 6" 8" or 10" kindlig or logs and with 14 ton ram will do knotty stuff as well but it is not as nice as clean timber but it is like everything else the better you put in the better you get out. Hope this is helpfull Big Chris.
  8. Hi where is south hams have you a post code .What % is leylandi to the hardwoods. Cheers Chris.
  9. I had 4 palax one every 3 years brand new never went wrong and got such good trade ins that it made financial sense and kept the things up to date . I was expecting it to work 6 days a week all year which they did.My current palax is 6 years old but it is the 100s not a bend or dent on it a few new belts sharpen the blade once a year change the filter etc.Do not see why it won t out do me as I am getting on a bit! Every one has there preffered makes so pay your money and take the choice. Cheers Chris.
  10. You won t get it moved far for £10 a tonne but it will sell because all these people with shiny new processors have got to feed them something.Next winter when they cannot sell them at £140 1m3 there is going to be alot of nearly new kit for sale.Don t forget it is the APF this year and the dealers will be convincing you to buy a bigger processor which will produce vast quantities of logs .What they won t tell you is where is all this wood everyone on hear seems to be chasing after any stick going.Cheers Chris.
  11. 1st question have you got your wood organized you will need a lot to warrant a processor. I am biased because I have been useing them since 1995 but you cannot go wrong with the palax range the combi is quick ,simple and affordable to run part time or full time very good people at calledonian forestry as well. I have only used the saw blade models and the people I know who have had accidents were all chainsaw models.Less sawdust with a blade and no oil or chains to keep buing.Hope this helps Big Chris.
  12. Hi what length is the beech and diameter could you pm me a price per tonne roadside thanks Chris
  13. Usualy by the tonne so if 1 lot is 500 tonnes you bid per tonne for the whole lot then either organize a haulier to shift it at extra cost per tonne or get you own timber wagon and do it your self. You will either have to pay up front on winning or get yourself a credit account with them. Why do you all think there is so much money in logs when you look at these sums,do not forget you have to store it for 12 months because it will be fresh felled. ie 500 tons @£45 Haulage about £12 total £28500 plus 20% vat Add a yard , tractor and processor and a vehicle to deliver plus fuel and there is very little left to pay yourself. Good luck but there are easyer ways to earn a shilling.Chris.
  14. Got to disagree with you my palax weighs 2 tonnes and 16 ton splitter ,got put off posch at apf when it got stuck a few times on knotty oak it is no good building bigger processors if you do not up the splitting power .There are a lot of older palax machines out there still doing a good job .Mine has cut 1500 cube a winter for the last 3 years only needed 1 set drive belts and the blade sharpening once a season.Yes it came from caledonian and they are very good. Cheers Chris.
  15. Quite agree best split one again and put metre into the fresh side grain you may be disapointed with the result the top ones look very green still. Best bet to advertise local should have no trouble selling as they look well presented. Cheers Chris.
  16. Use esales myself the only trouble is it is a bit long winded and you never know what price the lot goes for so bid your best price and hope.Atleast you can see the wood in situ and know what you are getting. Buying in loads is good if you know who you are dealing with and the haulier some cases on here of people not getting what they thought and what do you do with an artic load of wood you don t want waiting to unload. Thats why I run my own truck but it is costly. Good luck Chris.
  17. Hi just looked at fuelwood web page ex demo heizohack £63000.00 or small one £19000.00 I havent seen any secondhand yet.Try looking for a Laimet screw type much quieter and realy good chip.I have one but I do not know if I want to sell . Cheers Chris.
  18. Like many on here the palax is reasonably priced and been developed over the years it is simple quick and produces exelent logs started with one in 1995 and still with them.Would only consider a saw blade one no oil no chain to sharpen or bars and sprockets. Will cut 500 ton of clean wood before a sharpen.Have my blades collected sharpened set and returnd for £25 can t go wrong for that. Jim and co at caledonian have looked after me well. Go on get one if you do not get on with it there is always a good market for them. Cheers Chris.
  19. Why discrepencies over tonnage surely no arguments over a public weighbridge with a printed ticket. My preffered way you know exactly what you get and how much it has cost. Did you get the wood in carmarthenshire ? Cheers Chris.
  20. Hi Jon got any going spare at that price it is worth me hauling it back to pembrokeshire. Is it good stuff or mixed with softwood? Cheers Chris.
  21. Yep always was 55% for hardwoods and usualy works out about right.Much prefer to buy by wieght with a wieghbridge ticket then every one knows where they are,no arguing over stack measures. Cheers Chris.
  22. Hi £12.00 inc vat here If you are going to sell by wieght you would have to supply weigh ticket with every load or you are going to have trouble with trading standards.I don t think customers would pay the extra or want green oak and beech as they are the heaviest. Volume is best multiples of 1 metres then every one can compare easily. Cheers big chris Pembrokeshire.
  23. Seasoned winter cut hardwoods £75.00 cubic metre delivered throughout Pembrokeshire Softwoods £50.00 Cheers Chris.
  24. Hi Rich yes most hardwood is scarce and what comes up is expensive I run my own lorry and if I find any I buy it for my self .You have to keep an eye out and snap it up quick, have you had a look at the woodlots site but even that does not seem to have so much now.Good luck Chris.
  25. Hi The 900 has 3point linkage but the 100 is stand alone if you are moveing up to these size machines with a large hydraulic log deck why would you want to keep moving it,mine has not moved for 2 years.Re the splitta on the 100 it is simple and quick to change the axes and none of them have bent an inch.I agree the 90 g with the cassete spitta looks a bit time consuming, but fine if you have regular diameter timber. These machines are intended for constant use not a weekend ocaisionasl user.Cheers Chris.
