  1. I use ear plugs from a company called PROSHOCK. They take a silcone plant of your ear and make a plug that fits. I use them for chainsaw and log processing and shooting, the best thing is that you don't realise they are in.
  2. Hi we use kashflow.com, you can upload from qb and have a two week trial. Once set up I have found it brilliant, now using at customers houses for Quotes and emailing them the quote before leaving their front drive. It has a great flag system so you know what stage the quotes are at. Certainly worth alook if you like it drop me a pm and . Have a code to get a pound or two off a month. It really has improved my business no end.
  3. Hi there There is a piece on the HMRC website which will answer your question. otherwise as a general rule :- do you have any financial risk when you go to work, in other words do you supply your own kit and insurance etc or are you using his equipment and insurance, if he is supplying the kit etc then you will have no risk and should be on the books. also you need to be registered self employed and submit your self assessment, etc. This is how I understand it hope it is helpful. Regards Richard
  4. Speak to Geoff at trust We have had a couple of kit claims because of theft and one greenhouse accident. Trust have been great with no quibble. And the policy is really extensive Good luck Richard
  5. Hi all The law as I understand it from the enforcement officer is that you need change of use if you cut up tree surgery waste in an agricultural field but if you buy cordwood from a forest then you do not need permission as forestry and agriculture are in the same category. Which means in short you can cut up cords all day with a saw and they cannot stop you but if you cut up arb waste then they can.
  6. Hi Jim If you are still interested I am happy to quote for any fencing work in Somerset area 07971 628546 or 01934 820401 Regards Richard

  9. I have always run with a 4x4 pulling a large chipper 10 in 1.5 ton and a transit. we have always had a problem with capacity on the transit on weight. But have alot capacity to chip with the chipper compaired with chippers we have hired eg greenmech and timderwolf of a simular size Looking at May be a isuzi truck with a maximum of 7 tons gvw including chipper . So we can cut down on vechiles. And increase capacity of chip we can carry. There must be someone who has experience in this with out going to a mog

  11. Well I call it get fit Wood!! Chuck one on the fire sit down Chuck another one on. would not sell it by the ton very light when dry

  13. I saw the guards at confor they look really good last 4-5 yrs break down and are good for insects etc I think they are simular Price to tubex. 70-80p each ( off the top of my head so may be a couple of pence out) So in Labour terms alot cheaper in the long term Cheers Richard
  14. Forestry and agriculture come under the same bracket in law. we had trouble with a neighbour, he complained when we where logging up tree surgery waste. When I challenged the enforcement officer about it the out come was that I could cut up as much timber as I wanted as long as it was from forestry eg cords and he could do nothing about it, But tree surgery waste was not considered agricultual or forestry waste. So in theroy I would of thought there should be no charge Good luck with it all Regards richard
  15. We have about 8 combi. 4 Stroke sthil units and all we get is trouble , they won' t start or work with the airfilters ( all replaced twice a yr) and generally not very good, I have heard so much crap from the dealers, just wondering if anyone else has had simular problems or any advice any help would be great. I have a number of large long butts in the yard consisting of :- 4 Oak butts between 20 to 26 ft 7 Oak butts from 12-18ft 2 large yew butts 8 ft 4 or5 ash butts 20 ft approx 1 robinia butt 6 ft by 4 ft 2 Holm oak butts 8 ft, 10 to 15 large marcocarpa 15 ft approx 3-5 ft All in all about 1200 cubic ft Most of it has been in the yard for 3-4 yrs and I need to do something with it this autumn. 19. STRESS what a night mare. I did not know I was ill with it for a long time, was running a 2-3 man tree business I did the climbing and office etc, knackered my body, never slept, etc got to the point of wanting out and selling up or expand, so I was luck enough to be offered a gardening business with 4 men a little work. This ment I could employ another tree surgeon to take my place and push both businesses. I have used a hypothesis which is brilliant I have also had NLP. And use a chiropractor when ever it is needed. And have taken on a business coach Debbie Huxton who has got my head straight, last year was a nightmare but I have turned a corner and life is great. My advice is go and get help what ever the cost because when you are well the money comes easier!! Lifes to short to feel ****
  20. Hi all we are in a simular situation we are looking at getting a shredder for the gardening waste as I am not happy to put it through the chipper. We hire a 20 cu skip for all the grass waste and fill 3 a year. I pay £ 300. Plus vat. We used to have a couple of large fires a year but some one has dropped us in it with the EA. We do sell all the chip to a composting company for £75 Per 14 ton trailer full, 300 tons last year, nice Xmas bonus..
  21. We are using a dalen. 17 in capacity which we find really good for arb waste. We also using a large bandsaw and splitter which is very quick with very little waste ( although you could not put any idiots on it) I have put 13 + tons through it in a day. Any large rings we quarter on a hycrack and then put through one of the above machines. The nice thing is that it is now a 1 man system
