  1. I've got to me a safety Stetson !
  2. I wonder how many that are recommended by one person are not by another cause they needed to go home early that day or were hungover or were really spot on cause they were being assessed. Only found two in Scotland I would recommend and they've both retired. Others have been training for 20 years but not been on a job for that long either.
  3. Have had a few problems like this recently. A chipper course I booked for two of my guys, the instructor turned up at 10, they left at 2pm and had an hour and a half lunch. Never changed any blades, anvil, filters. No servicing. Only put one branch through. Same for multiple windblown. Suppose to be a 3 day course, they only did 1 as the instructor said it was too windblown!!!! We pay high prices for courses and should at least get a quality product.
  4. I would do everything but remove and replace. Can you take pics of the Union?
  5. Ooops, jumping in!!! Wrong Dart
  6. I've worked with Dart and they are really good blokes with an amazing idea. It's not just the overseas work there's a lot of training weekends that go way above and beyond what you'll pay thousands for i.e first aid, remote working, windblown. What was the negative feedback ?
  7. Both types of bracing have there place. I find steel cabling and bar is better at the site of the weak union. And are static. There are examples up here done by my partner 30 years ago that have saved the tree. The tree has healed round the bracing. Dynamic cabling like cobra is better in the canopy where it is just helping the tree. If the tree looks healthy and hasn't declined since the fitting, leave the bracing in as I feel you would do more damage removing it. If you wanted to help then reduce the weight on the limbs.
  8. To be fair the hole in the exhaust in the lorry works wonders for advertising as everyone turns and stares as we drive past
  9. Thought I'd have a go myself on the older 192t. She sounds a lot more beefy and doesn't bog down in bigger cuts now
  10. I got lucky, I didn't want the job so priced v high in anticipation it would take a day and a half but got it and was done by lunchtime
  11. We all like to add pics of the good jobs so I thought I'd add some of the bad ones for a change. This was today's !!
  12. It's not put me up not down on the machine. Every bit of kit needs maintained and looked after. The Unimog has taught me this. £30 for the filter and a new oil filter too
  13. Do I just phone up redwoods and order one up ?
  14. Just read I have to replace the hydraulic filter after 20hrs. Did everyone else do this and how much was it ?
  15. So after speaking to some batty type folks this morning I'm even more confused than before. The basic guide for bats course for arborists helps you do tree work with bats in mind. The aboriculture and bats how to use an endoscope course lets you do exactly that. It states It doesn't provide adequate training for a bat licence?!? Do I need a bat licence ? Do any of these quals allow me to survey trees for bats ??
  16. Cheers for that Have found some courses in Richmond which are spot on. Shame it's so far away !!
  17. Will be doing the surveying myself, I have a few companies that are requesting it to be done before the tree work starts. Seems silly to pay someone else when I have the climbers and the kit
  18. I'm looking for a training provider for a bat surveying qualification, north uk would be preferable. Thanks
  19. Up near Elgin if anyone is passing : )
  20. I'm welding steel, mainly cut up i beams.
  21. Yeah I can't get a good arc when I do that.
  22. Both up and down. Down I just runs off, up it blows through.
  23. Having bought a welder off gumtree and googled welding, I'm managing to do do horizontal stuff ok but as soon as I do vertical it goes to pot. I can't get the run to stick. I'm using 6013 and 85v Any help please?
