Why not define war Vs an occupation. Let's use Afghanistan as a recent benchmark for you. We went to war and gave it back, within days it returned to pretty much the same condition as before, after what 15-20 years of occupation?.

So let's use your hypothetical for say Afghan/Iraq/Hamas. How am I supposed to target a gorilla force that refuses to wear a identifiable uniform?. The general default was anyone with a gun who wasn't you, the police or their army were effectively classed as hostile.

Well seeing as Dresden was a manufacturing hub for the Reich, that's one of the reasons it was chosen. Same reasoning behind the dam busters raids, same reason they targeted railway and other infrastructure. Ukraine is a bit different, other than a few drones all the weapons and armour is delivered ready for use and they do target those centres. So yes bombing a city would be a war crime, as it's not the 1940s. We can drop a bomb with almost mm precision, in the 40s they quickly realised high altitude bombing didn't work particularly due to cloud and flak.

Because they know they can't argue with a wet lettuce when you offer no alternative except oh how bad it was. It's not a case of armchair general or fire and brimstone, I've done my bit making electronics during Afghanistan for our combined forces. It's not a case of bangier or brimstone, it's a case of civilians prop up a regime regardless of their political persuasion and you topple the regime bottom up. And the knowledge of history also helps, what was done HAD to be done, hearts and minds is utter bs. It might lower your deaths but doesn't work long term.

It's not assumed or opinion it's a argument you're failing to explain yourself. Well why don't you explain how you would have toppled the Nazis then without civilian casualties!. As my argument is literally a extrapolation of you very poor idea of war, it's not the 1700s we can't just line up in a field when a nation is at war and invaded.

Think you'll find I'm not inventing anything, just using your delusional logic. Oh the Germans didn't deserve being bombed, well yes and no. How else are you going to topple for example the Nazis if you don't have the population unmotivated and on its knees financially, by breaking the very structures required to make it operate.

We had the same thing the other days, usual lack of context or even a alternative suggestion about what to do. One has to ask these lefty types how they would have stopped Adolf if we're not allowed to grind a country economically into the ground. Wars are lost and won on logistics, you can't feed them they can't fight.

And what do you think they're doing against Hamas, it's not just a little state sponsored skirmish. You win at war buy punishing the enemy and it's population, as without the populations support you fall. Take the Americans and Vietnam, you can't have a war of occupation and expect to win as you can't kill an enemy that doesn't wear a uniform.

It's not really an opinion is pretty much a fact as the key word you forgot is democratically elected government, Hamas sized their illegitimate power like the Taliban did. So in you're idealised war, everyone just keeps supplying whatever is needed which effectively makes it a forever stalemate. The enemy has just ran out of 7.62, we'll have to use the 5.56 until the new delivery in the morning general, good show lieutenant. That's not how you win in wars. So Adolf sinking merchant ships was good or bad ?.
